  1. This situation must have been really out of control, as there ARE school staff that have are trained by the county to restrain a child. My child came home from Kindergarten years ago and told me that a classmate kicked and bit the Principal -- I asked the teacher about this and she confirmed it! She told me that the first few weeks of Kindergarten is a trying time for everyone, because the school has to figure out which kids are ticking time bombs. Seems like this is awfully late in the year for this scenerio -- I wouldnt be surprised if the school has had an encounter or two with this chil
  2. I also recognize her as a substitute teacher - any other info as to her cell phone, did she have her car, what was she wearing? Was this on the news? Any updates at all?
  3. Inevitably, you have to understand that they will NEVER tell you what action was taken against "SAID STUDENT" for his/her own privacy (what b-sh%t). Most likely you will hear exactly what was done from other students (ISS, etc). I agree with all posts above to teach your child where to hit 'em where it hurts in a case of self defense!! HOWEVER, did I miss the part of the post that said exactly what kind of "keeping their hands to themselves" exactly meant?? Are we talking about actual touching of private parts, or just another child hitting another -- if it is the latter, this post took on
  4. I got it right away and had a good giggle about it!! You can't handle the truth!!
  5. GREAT Post! Just wanted to add that is wasn't only a southern thing -- This native New Yorker can tell you that Sunday supper was all about the sauce/gravy -- depends what borough you are from -- basically, homemade spagetti/meat sauce and meatballs made from scratch. Fresh crusty Italian bread, salad and pasta..Mmmmmm. The smell from each house to the next had rival grandmas handing out huge meatballs on a fork to every kid in the neighborhood, with each one claiming "Mine is better"!! Dear God, what I woudln't do for one of those meatballs now!! This Irish gal was lucky enough to hang
  6. When we were selling our house Doug came out and did an incredible job! I had a few things the buyers wanted done (fix step, finish crown moulding, etc). I thought this would be an easy thing (with so many out of work??) to find someone -- WRONG!!! Called SEVERAL "No Job Too Small" guys, only to be left waiting for them to give me a quote after they saw what would amount to about 4 hours worth of work. Doug to the rescue!!! Fast, reliable, fair priced!!
  7. I 2nd the Bentwater, Seven Hills, The Reserve, Timberlands area -- not just community pool, but great pools!! F.Y.I - I would use extreme caution on any neighborhood that is not "fully developed". Literally hundreds of developments in Paulding and surrounding counties went bust with only a handful of homes completed who are then expected to support the community pool/tennis courts, etc. I have several friends who are not only under water, but pray daily that the pool pump doesnt go out, because it would be up to them and the other 13 homes to replace it. Even the communities I mention are
  8. Another vote for McKinney -- after you stay at McKinney it is hard to go back to Red Top -- Red Top is beautiful, but they really only have a small selection of "premium" sites -- check out McKinney, they will let you drive through during the day and give you a map.
  9. Yes, all but one of the aluminum pans were to be "used later". The cotton balls were to be saved for Xmas projects, the q-tips were to be used for painting I believe and the ice cream sticks were used as name tags....my point is.....this is what was approved as part of a Science curriculum...so messed up, so many opportunities TO mess up ( in the hands of some I suppose)
  10. So I am clear-- I was not the PARENT WHO COULDNT BARE TO WATCH THIS GO TO WASTE...I WAS the parent who nervously-laughingly suggested that this was a terrible waste to the Assist. Prin. on my way out and was assured there was enough to go around....
  11. Have to add -- after reading the standards EYE posted -- I'm wondering why each teacher received cotton balls, ice cream sticks, aluminum pans (3 each), beakers, q-tips, etc....
  12. Sorry if I can't find time to check into this website during the day....I was WORKING!! I usually agree with most of what you post Eye, but ain't no BS from this girl!! I have no clue what the curriculum is, was or was meant to be, I was only relating an actual event that happened. Great advice from everyone who suggested this teacher "invent" ideas to do with her new found riches. My opinion, is she is in 4th year (don't find it necessary to call her out to her peers, admin, and everyone on this board, so I will not name the school as she is low on the totempole!) If you have K'ers -- kee
  13. Watched Obama tonight talking about the America's Job Act and how we should invest in the schools that are falling apart...someone help me here -- volunteered yesterday in my daughters Kindergarten class, they received 2 cardboard boxes PER CLASS -- times 7 kindergarten classes JUST FOR THIS SCHOOL -- it was part of the curriculum labeled "SCIENCE". Within these boxes were several beekers, 4 aluminum baking racks, 100+ cotton balls, 100+ Q-tips, 100+ ice cream sticks..and more I can't remember -- this is government issued stuff that is paid for by the taxpayer!! When I asked the lead teache
  14. My immediate reaction on this was....WITHIN seconds of the President of The United States speech -- WHY, WHY, WHy...ok....WHY wouldnt HE have mentioned this during his speech??? He made some pretty major announcements to our economy in case you missed it. He had ALL the networks attention......IF this is so credible....yup, keep asking yourself....WHY WOULDNT HE HAVE MENTIONED IT????? 9/11 is in TWO DAY -- What would be the harm behind just upping the threat level..oops, forgot they did away with that... pay attention people!!! It's called DISTRACTION from the crap ass information he put fort
  15. Sorry, lost your point at "were were getting, and at lease the rain is helping them a little" -- but thanks for the post
  16. THANK YOU, THANK YOU , THANK YOU -- your post was exactly what I intended to originally posted!!! BRAVO!!
  17. Well, my original post was to vent about my own kin, high school age who often complain that "they have applied everywhere!!!" and still don't have jobs. Thank you for those who posted that have inspired their children to EARN money -- that is what I was hoping to hear!! They seemed so schocked when I suggest they do actual manual labor, wish could at least pay for their cell phones which is a WHOLE other topic alltogether -- what I wouldn't have done for a cell phone that played games or viewed pictures -- it is TRULY an alter life -- a HUGE THANK YOU to those of you who replied with postive
  18. I guess that is to assume that the crazies are the "neighbors" -- I'm not talking about kids venturing out into unknown areas -- just the street they live on -- I recently found out that my next door neighboor has a High School Daughter who loves pets -- she just saved me a TON of money -- Dog-Sat my 3 dogs for 3 days, picked up my mail for $75 -- win-win sitation if you ask me -- the kennel would have charged almost $50 per day!!! Just wondering why folks aren't being more resourceful in such hard times!!!
  19. Not sure either -- my assumptions are the same -- but to those listening (you don't even have to be a child) FALL IS COMING -- MOST PEOPLE DONT WANT TO RAKE/BURN their leaves -- heck inflation could proably get $1.00 per bag!!!
  20. Check out Freecycle.com -- everything is offered up for free - you just have to come and pick it up -- when we moved to Paulding County, I had over 100 boxes and got rid of them within 2 hours and still had people responding my post -- sign up and observe -- so much free stuff out there!!
  21. Just a minor vent here -- I hear from all my nieces and nephews about how hard it is to find jobs while they are in school -- and I GET IT! However, when I was young (can't believe I just typed that) we used to knock on folks door and offer to rake the lawn for 25 cents a bag, mow lawns, paint fences etc. Last winter, I would have paid $50-100 dollars for someone to shovel the driveway....so I ask -- Why aren't are children thinking of these things!!
  22. I'm sorry you couldn't make the payments on your home -- please "sweep it" if it means money in your pocket and leave it in decent condition so that the market analysis for the neighborhood and resale value of the other homes does not suffer. Consider it "pay it forward" if you must so that you may find a renter willing to rent. So tired of seeing homes in my area stripped bare of A/C, appliances, etc. I am truly sorry for the situation that left those unable to pay their promisory notes -- I hope your rental payment in within your means and wish you well!
  23. This was and remains my sons "reward" for getting on the Honor Roll 3 of 4 terms -- its a HUGE hit for kids, exciting dinner and show -- good food,, horses, fencing, battling - little boys love this stuff, but they play to the little princesses also -- WARNING -- PRE = SHOW DRINKS ARE $VERY $$$ Expensive!$$ -- Arrive just before showtime -- it is good old fashion fun!! Go at least once for a super reward (like us, it started as getting on the Honor Roll -- and He held us to us every year -- so it must mean something to the kids!!!
  24. Check out McCollum airport for a helicopter ride and then dinner at Elevation.
