  1. Coconut milk is ok in some things, but I find it too watery for cereal.
  2. I agree. I'm going to eat with friends, then coming home early. I might join in a bonfire/fireworks with nearby family. Too many crazies on the road at/after midnight.
  3. Hot Tang. It sounds bizarre, but it works for me. Get some good old Tang (even the store brand) and nuke it so its like hot tea. I think part of it is just the effect of any hot liquid to loosen things up and soothe sore throats, but the vitamin C also may be playing a role.
  4. I usually avoid Hiram Walmart AND Kmart--I agree, but I actually prefer Wal-mart unless the parking lot is full, then if it is something that I MUST have, I'll try K-mart. Although, I don't think I've been to Kmart since the new Walmart opened. If I am shopping in Hiram and HAVE to go to Wal-mart, I'll go down 92 to Dallas Hwy before I'll go to the one down the street.
  5. I rarely see many people shopping the Hiram K. I'm glad it isn't on the list, but am surprised. Honestly, I've always found that store to be less than clean and orderly, plus they NEVER have enough registers opened. I avoid it unless there are absolutely no other choices.
  6. You can get a piece of salt pork. Put what you don't use in a ziplock bag in the fridge or ever freezer and it will keep for a long time.
  7. Oh well. It will be a story to laugh about some time in the future.
  8. I probably would have been stumped on the spot, too. I have a possible solution if the issue ever arises again... Take the toy and leave a note from Santa that he will take it back to his shop for his elves to repair. The toy disappears. In a few days another repaired toy is sent in the mail or magically re-appears from Santa.
  9. Two websites where you can check out charities. http://www.charitynavigator.org/ http://www.bbb.org/us/charity/
  10. In my past employment life, I had many dealings with YDC and the juvenile justice system. I think it is likely that your friend is not telling you the whole truth. I've never known of one shakey charge to cause a kid to be put in YDC. Usually juveniles have to commit crime after crime after crime before they get locked up. I only knew of one kid who was locked up in YDC during a trial and was later found not guilty...that was a murder trial. (Although many still believe he is guilty but they just didn't have enough proof)
  11. BBQ leftovers mixed in with left overs from Christmas lunch---although I always end up craving chinese food thanks to a certain movie. Maybe I'll do that and save left-overs for later, if I can find a place that's open.
  12. It depends on which large or which hometown charity it is. There are good and bad in both of these. I try to check out the big ones with Clark Howard's website or other websites that monitor charities and post what percentage actually goes to the cause and is not burned in over-head costs.

From my research, I discovered there are no parental controls for limiting purchases, viewing inappropriate content, OR the BIGGIE to me--NO SAFE internet browsing. I chose to go with something else.
  14. Smoked Salmon Dip package of regular smoked salmon from meat section of grocery store 1 container of cream cheese with chives (or you can buy regular cream cheese and add fresh herbs) 1 small container of cream cheese oops I meant sour cream mix the cream cheese and sour cream then add the salmon shred the smoked salmon before you add it Its better if you make it the night before. You can serve with bagel chips or crackers I've also bought a bunch of dill to garnish the dip and spread around the plate to dress it up
  15. I thought I read that the Fiesta was made in Michigan now.
  16. Its always the 1st Sat in December. You can put it on your calendar for next year
  17. I've heard of instances where people with children in DFCS custody pay child support to the state. I guess those people should have to pay support or be jailed, just like other dead-beat parents. Although, our jails are already bursting at the seams. It will cost more money. I'm not sure what the answer is --- except for our country turning back to God.
  18. LOL I'm not even the parent . Its for a family member, but I'm in total agreement of the parent controls and am consulting with the parents before I buy anything.
  19. Thank you all for your help and input. I think the Nook Simple Touch will be the way to go. It seems to be easy to use. It has wifi for downloading books, but no real browser for internet. I do wish that Barnes and Nobles had some type of parent block so that a password had to be entered to download any questionable material, but that is not as concerning as an internet with not even a safe internet search mode. As far as at home, there is no wifi router so all internet use is in the living room where everyone is around and browsing history can be checked. Its not about having "bad
  20. I think I've figured it out. There are some older nooks out there that have wifi that basically does not work. There's still no parent controls, but it has to be downloaded off of the computer.
