How about a civil discussion on the 19th district race
lotstodo replied to lotstodo's topic in Paulding County NEWS
You called them BOE impact fees, giving me the impression that the fees would be directly imposed by the BOE. This will in fact require a constitutional amendment, since the power to tax is constitutionally limited to "the governing authority of any county or municipality" (this has been my understanding for some time. Any GA. Constitutional scholars are welcome to step in here and correct me if I'm wrong). If you meant that the BOC can impose fees and pass those funds on to the education fund, then I suppose that could be done legislatively. That still requires a cooperative BOC. However -
OP has 2 posts, both pro Donovan. I'll leave the rest of the math up to y'all.

So tell us who you like and why. What issues are you concerned about? What do you expect from our next representative? -

Not hardly, and there is no way on Gods Green Earth that the powers that be in the Georgia House and Senate are going to let you take away their payola. There is a committee formed by last year's legislature to look at how taxes are collected and how tax breaks are handed out. I expect it to be nothing but lip service and maybe a few small, truly useless, headline making tax breaks will be given up. But if you think that Porter, Ralston, and their crews are going to roll over and play dead, you have a serious hopey perception problem. I agree that taxation hasn't really been studied as a w -
Maximum Assessed Value: The Real Market Value (RMV) times a factor established by law that establishes the maximum assessed value of a property based on RMV. MAV Capping: The establishment of a maximum annual increase in maximum assessed value, usually a percentage increase per year. In 2009, Georgia HB-233 established that value at 0% to remain in effect for 3 years. In other words, a moratorium on proper tax assessment increases is in place until January 2011.

I feel for you. We went through a year of home warranty A/C half-assed repairs. The technician finally admitted that his job was to keep it running for 1 year, not to fix it. He said if he actually replaced the compressor instead of nursing it along, he would be fired. Good luck.

I voted for Zell, and regretted it mightily. He talked the fiscal conservative talk but walked the tax and spend on my ol' buddies walk. He ruined DNR by using it as a political giveaway program of hotels and golf courses, and it has yet to recover. He took the concept of "Development Highways" to a unheard of plateau. He is actually one of the major reasons that I am leery of what may happen to Mr. Avery if and when he gets his special license plate. The pressure to play the game is enormous. Like Cee Jay says, it goes both ways, but given a choice between the extremes, the progressive le -
OK, here it is. The first person that posts a rumor or innuendo, with no corroboration or evidence to back up their trash talk, and my head may just explode. There is a hit thread open for every candidate please use those to spread lies and filth. Character and ethics are fair game, as is the way candidates are conducting themselves, but please leave the sex lies and videotape elsewhere. I have heard a lot of bad things, mostly lies, about all three candidates. It would be nice to hear from supporters why their candidate is right for the job, and not why the other guy is a turd. On t

Anyone see this article about Steve Golden?

No NJ, I wasn't referring to you at all. I was simply agreeing with T-I-T's statement that it would be nice to get back to picking a representative without all the accessory poo flinging and sordid details, and explaining why I felt it necessary to post Mr. Stout's statement, not innuendo. Sorry if I mislead anyone or if I was misunderstood. It probably is time for a new thread. Past time. -

I agree. I posted it only in response to the accusation that there was an attempt to mislead the voters concerning these allegations. Somebody just couldn't let go without getting what they thought to be the last word accusatory statement on that. I hope that this puts it all to a rest. This and other threads are chock full of rumor and innuendo spread by supporters of both Braddock and Stout. That is not the case here. It is a shame when a smear campaign is started in an attempt to deflect attention from the truth of a situation. I actually regret having to repost this, but could see -
Does anyone know who Gov. Perdue is backing?
lotstodo replied to PauldingMom's topic in Paulding County NEWS
Let me know what he says. This is really the biggest thing I find wrong with him. I would feel much better about his candidacy if he either sold his partnership or at least put his holdings in a blind trust. Sonny very apparently manipulated the system to his personal benefit, and I can just see Nathan following in those same footsteps. I am just so tired of politicians treating their office as a personal cash cow instead of a position of public service. I don't see Karen as that sort of person. I'm also curious about Sam and Preston. I voted for Sam, more as the evil know. His deal -
REMEMBER HANK (GUAM IS GOING TO TIP OVER) JOHNSON?

Why am I agreeing with you so much lately? -
Well I was for the new kid as a breath of fresh air, and he lost, so I have to chose between a guy that crapped himself by getting all up in someone's face in a public forum and a guy that can't seem to get his job done in the time allotted without convincing explaining the reason why. Some choice. I vote "none of the above". I'm currently entertaining suggestions for a write in candidate.

Are you satisfied that there is nothing to his use of his office for personal gain vis a vis his auto inspection business / exclusive government franchise? I'm not. -

In an effort to dispel any "false" rumors, the following is a statement made by and confirmed by Mr. and Mrs. Stout themselves in response to these allegations. Any falsehoods or "misleading statements" contained herein are the responsibility of the candidate himself, not anybody trying to "spread false rumors". Danna672, I am the one that first posted these statements here on Pcom, and I intentionally chose not to publish any of the allegations, only the response to make it perfectly clear that I was in no way attempting to mislead anyone. You may ask Daniel if he made the following stateme -
Mrs. B, I'd answer you if you weren't on "ignore".

REMEMBER HANK (GUAM IS GOING TO TIP OVER) JOHNSON?

For once, I am at a total loss for words (almost ). Is this a cartoon world that I have suddenly stepped into where the indefensible becomes an absurd reality? Are we now to use the pseudoscience of sociology, a rehash of telephone theory, and Six Degrees of Separation to explain how people can interpret an original statement in differing ways? Isn't it patently obvious that if Johnson had to explain that it was a metaphor, that it at the very least was a really bad one? Did my head just explode? Hank Johnson's claim to fame is that he beat Cynthia Mckinney, and needed a runoff to eve -

:clapping: Thanks Surepip. Excellent post on why so many people feel that this is a real issue. Had he campaigned primarily on something other that his Jesus credentials, and had folks other than his fellow parishioners and RTL faithful beating the bushes for him and financing his campaign, then this wouldn't have smacked so much of a sucker job. When you hold yourself up as holy man of God and a strong family values candidate, that had better be the entire truth or you had better be prepared to be taken down a few notches. -

Well said, but I am afraid that you are wasting your breath. Some folks can't separate the physical from the spiritual or belief from knowledge. Some will see a well thought out statement of fact or opinion as an affront to those beliefs and therefore worthy of smite rather than discussion. I for one know that you are probably the most open minded person on this board. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and whether you and I agree or disagree, I know that your opinion comes from a position of thought and consideration of fact. You have changed my opinion on occasion. (Don't bookmark -
I chaired the House Judiciary Sub Committee on this issue back in 2008 and carried the bill in the House. We spent several hours in two hearings on this issue and had at the table representatives of all the major players and interest groups on behalf of property owners. The fact of the matter is “mandating negotiations” is a meaningless phrase since you cannot legally compel someone to change the terms of an already agreed-upon contract. As a lawyer, Roy Barnes knows this. However, we did find that, as a general rule, the biggest problem for property owners was being able to ge

The first thing to do is to start looking for another job.

She needs to start leaning on his Democratic past and his sorted dealings with the inspection deal. She also needs to point out her own fiscally conservative past. RTL alone isn't going to win the race for Deal. Well except perhaps in Paulding County.

feelip, I'm sure he's a nice guy, but just like last time, his mouth is writing checks that his ass can't cash. Raises for teachers??? Pick the loser then. And you know that I don't like Sonny, but the global recession isn't his fault. BTW, the budget is always in the black. It's the law. And I bet you that whoever is elected the state will be in much better shape in 2015.
