You don't teach by hitting. You get their attention and assume control. Then you teach.

Anyone else notice the sign in front of the elementary school in Dallas touting "we made ADP". Sorry, I don't thank that's brag-worthy. Don't aim for average...aim higher.

This seems a good place to add these quotes. Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907. 'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who sa

Can a good Muslim be a good American? This question was forwarded to a friend who worked in Saudi Arabia for 20 years. The following is his reply: Theologically - no. . . . Because his allegiance is to Allah, The moon god of Arabia . Religiously - no.. . . Because no other religion is accepted by His Allah except Islam . (Quran, 2:256)(Koran) Scripturally - no. . . Because his allegiance is to the five Pillars of Islam and the Quran. Geographically - no . Because his allegiance is to Mecca , to which he turns i

No issue at all. Trust but verify. (R. Reagan).

How about making candidates for public office take an oath promising not to make false statements, under penalty of prosecution for perjury. That ought to cut down on the hyperbole.

Another oldie (real oldie) but a goodie. Saturday, April 25, 2009 "The Land That Made Me, Me"... days long gone Long ago and far away, in a land that time forgot, Before the days of Dylan, or the dawn of Camelot. There lived a race of innocents, and they were you and me, For Ike was in the White House in that land where we were born, Where navels were for oranges, and Peyton Place was porn. We learned to gut a muffler, we washed our hair at dawn, We spread our crinolines to dry in circles on the lawn. We longed for love and romance, and waited for our Pr

Truth be told, I'd look, then I'd laugh and point. Not because I think I'm better. I do the same at trucks with really big tires, cars that are pimped up, etc. I think they look funny.

So the AJC is old news? Remember when news was a report on something that had happened. Not what MIGHT happen, or what MAY come next. Remember, when you read, hear or see such a phrase, the opposite is equally true. It MIGHT NOT happen, MAY NOT occur. Just sayin'.

Buffalo's Southwestern Grill (near the new theater) has a bar and occasional band. Not familiar enough to know how often.

Hard to top the aggravation I feel when someone I'm dealing with... clerk or customer... stays on the cell phone instead of actually talking to me. And when I'm in mid-conversation with a clerk and the phone rings, he or she stops and makes me wait while they answer the phone, then completes a (sometimes lengthy) conversation on the phone before even looking at me.

I notice thousands lined up for help in reducing their home loans so they can keep their homes. It seems to be working. I'm glad for those folks. Here's my question. Why can't people who are not in trouble, not late on payments, not about to lose their homes get those low-cost loans as well? Is this really fair? I'm all for helping, but why limit the help to just a few? My feeling is, these days everyone can use a little extra help, and if low-cost loans are out there, that would leave us a bit more cash to actually help ourselves and our neighbors. Comments?
