  1. I agree with the others who said that it depends on the child and why they are doing poorly. If you think they would use the time to study instead of practice then I guess you should take them out but I do agree if you make a commitment to a team you honor it even if it means sitting on the bench. If the child is 12 I would say have him/her get up early and go to tutoring (I know at Moses it is offfered at 7:45 am). Two of my kids aren't morning people so having to get up early is in a way punishment. Also take the time yourself to quiz and study with them. If the teacher doesn
  2. Well, I got a fantastic deal on a ticket (front row too!) and went tonight. It was AMAZING!! I loved the voice of actress who played Ephie and the cast did a wonderful job. Wish I could have taken my daughter she would have loved it too. Although as a band geek she probably would have been looking in the pit at the Orchestra the whole time . Thanks for pushing me over the edge~~I'm so glad I went.
  3. I was excited that Shelby won for the 10th grade. My daughter played softball with her a couple of years ago and she just seems like an all around awesome girl. For some reason I had thought she was headed to North for High school and I was excited to see her at East. I was pulling for Vanessa R. to get Queen. Love her family. One of her sisters goes to North and the other two plan to I believe and I just love that she chose East. She's another amazing girl. Didn't really know too many of the other girls but I did know of the 9th grade winner. She won it both times as Moses as
  4. Last I knew only 15 points had been scored against the Raiders all season long. Oh and since I am a band parent I've also been informed that no points have been scored against the Raiders while the band was in the stands playing.
  5. Last year we had a link in ours and one of our awesome neighbors informed us that the water company will adjust one bill a year. I can't remember the percent off but since it is late in the year now would be a good time to request that. If I remember correctly it is per calendar year. To the OP, if it was a misread it will correct itself next month so you will pay less. I'm glad it sounds like a misread for you. When that happened with us (it went from $25 to $60 to over $100 and it was a leak which is much more expensive to fix. Our bills now still run between $45-$50 a year later
  6. Although I am not expert at Ebay I do know that there is a place were you can look at stuff by price or distance (closest to farthest). It will be near the top right side of your search results. There is a drop down window that you can use to have the results viewed by how close the seller is. This might help in your search. I feel for you. Instruments are sooo expensive and if your band student is like mine they get sentimental and attached to their instruments pretty quickly. Good luck!
  7. Me too! All three of mine have played rec bb off and on. It probably would have been more on if they would give out the locations. Usually when we end up far I tend to take the next year off. I haven't let them all play in a long time because I didn't want to chance having them all spread out across the county. I think they will tell you the locations but not what ages/groups are going to be there.
  8. If I missed this suggestion I apologize but I tend to do the same thing @3 times a year (always in a few week span). I think it cost maybe $20 a year but we add road side assistance to our auto insurance and it pays for itself the first time. It also comes in handy if you have a dead battery or an unexpected breakdown. I can't believe all the things that people are suggesting, especially the whole teach her a lesson and let her figure it out for herself comments. This is the mother of your children and would you want them locked out in icy, rainy or 100 degree weather? Many times when
  9. I've been debating on whether to go see it by myself. No one else in the family is really all that interested (good thing to with the cost of the tickets). All these reviews may just put me over the edge.
  10. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Time to go clear the DVR of those old Oprah episodes I'll never get around to watching and see what's on.
  11. Wow, that does sound like a great game. I bet both teams were on the edge of their seats. I don't need that kind of stress.
  12. I grew up in Michigan and cheered in the rain and snow. I don't see a game getting called for rain unless there is lightening in the sky. It just makes things a little messier and more interesting. I hope it doesn't rain. I too would hate to see someone get injured as a result.
  13. My daughter is in the band and we received a schedule for the day that lists kickoff at 7:30. Just wanted to add that another reason to get there early might be because this game is going to be televised and there may be some pre-game stuff going on. Not sure but the band is planning to arrive @6:30.
  14. Just let him/her use the teachers bathroom. I don't see forcing the child to use a bathroom they feel is wrong for them or forcing other kids to have someone who is physically of the opposite sex use their bathroom.
  15. I don't know why I even open this thread anymore thinking there might actually be an "on topic" update. I give up. If something had come of it surely someone would have put an update it.
  16. Not sure if any one was able to support us as a result of this request but wanted to let you all know it looks like we made it. When I click on our school it shows that we had 187 supporters and finished in 63rd place! Burnt Hickory finished with 174 supporters and tied for 99th place. How exciting. Thanks to all those of you that supported us!!
  17. Kleenex has been running a promotion where the top 100 schools will each get $5,000 to use toward field trips. Just a few days ago Abney was in 35th place and tonight, with an hour and 15 minutes left we have dropped to 97th! The promotion ends at 11:59 pm tonight so we don't have much time!!! In order to support a school you need to have a facebook page. Each facebook page can support one school. The link is running slow tonight with all the schools trying to get last minute support so please if you can be patient and just use another browser to do what ever else you want to do t
  18. The original post only said a man of Arabic decent was taking pictures for the second time at the Cartersville airport (or something of that nature). Based on those few facts of course it would be upsetting to think that is all it takes to have people jump to conclusions about their intentions. Since the original post, other facts have been stated that do make things a look a little more suspicious but seriously are we going to get upset with fellow P.commers who thought it was a little out there to be joyful about the detainment of a guy who looked Arabic taking pictures? On those
  19. I don't like any of them anymore to be honest. I have been a loyal fan of DirectTv for 7 years now but over the last 3-4 months or so I have decided I am fed up with them. We had Comcast before DirectTv for a few years and our service would go out every time the wind would blow. It was so frustrating. I couldn't believe the difference when we switched to DTV but more recently our bill has gone up even though we have dropped the number of TV's we have set up and the number of channels. It sucks. We hadn't been under contract with them for yeas but in the Summer of 2010 we added HD an
  20. It was nice to get teary eyed over something funny today.
  21. Did anyone just watch the Michigan/Notre Dame game? It was an awesome game. The last two minutes were incredible. I have siblings that graduated from both schools and my little brother flew in from TX for the game (he's the Michigan grad). Wish I could have been there. Do the Raiders ever have any close games? I love the blowouts but have to admit a close call is oh so excitng as long as it ends your way!!
  22. I've never been before. I am actually wearing a necklace someone gifted me with that was bought at Paulding Meadows 5 or so years ago. I am going this year as a volunteer and may stick around a bit to check it out. I do think it is backwards asking the volunteers to pay?!!?? What the heck is that about. Anyway, I'll be working the parking lot early tomorrow morning before the heat sets in. I have no idea what to expect but the weather is going to be perfect tomorrow for anything outdoors.
  23. I am going to try to stay out of the political end of this discussion. First, I can not believe people are now complaining about getting materials. It's like you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. I don't care where it is coming from. I love the idea that some of my tax dollars are going toward sending materials that can be used to do some basic Science experiments. Isn't our county behind in Science (and Math)? So how is this a bad thing? Second, I find it appaling that a teacher couldn't find some way to incorporate those items into his/her curriculum (regardless of
  24. We turned off the air and opened the windows. Even with the ceiling fan on and a smaller fan that I keep on a chair right next to the bed I still woke up hot several times. No heat for us. Hopefully not for a good long time. We definitely need a break from those $300 electric bills.
