  1. Are you talking about down on Mulberry Rock Rd where they have cleared off a whole bunch of trees? Lord, I don't know what it is but I wish that I knew. I am not very excited about it whatever it is. I already have a school in my backyard, but it is not as bad as I thought that it would be.
  2. You are right. They hand out promotions and raises when you do a great job (Recognition)
  3. Her priorities are definitely not screwed up as she is going to be a high achiever no matter what anybody in this school system says or does. You are right colleges do not care whether they were honor grads or not, but what are we telling our children when we ask them to excel and work hard and then they are not given any type of recognition for that? We expect it at our jobs right? Then why shouldn't they?
  4. I found out over the weekend, that starting next year students that graduate with honors will be recognized no differently than those that do not. The school system thinks that it is hurting the other students feelings. PLEASE!!! That is the biggest load of sh--- I have ever heard! Are we trying to make our kids into a bunch of pansies that cannot handle someone doing better than them. Wake up parents, when these kids get out in the real world, they will have to learn to deal with rejection and people doing better than them. My niece should be graduating with honors because she has worked
  5. I actually did this in 2009. I had been laid off and decided to go to school at Chatt Tech. There are several stipulations that go along with doing this. You have to be accepted into the WIA program in your area. There is not much money in the program and sometimes there is a waiting list to get in the program. You have to be a full-time student and be enrolled in either a certificate or diploma program. You will be interviewed for entrance into the program. If you start the program and do not finish it, then you have to pay all of the money back that you were given. During this time, y
  6. I have every right to get defensive!!! There was an earlier post that eluded to the fact that the particular road that it happend on is not a good road for bikes. Any road should be o.k. for someone that is riding a bike, if the rider is being safe. My husband has had to literally kick the side of someone's car because the STUPID girl driving the car was coming over on top of him. What I am saying is that we ALL need to be safer when we drive. I drive a car and just about get hit everyday by IDIOTS that drive on 4 wheels. Our county is so full of people now, that even driving a car can be
  7. My husband rides a motorcycle and believe me, it is the cars that are the majority of the problem. Too many people too busy putting on makeup, talking on cell phones, and blasting their radios to pay attention to what they are doing. My husband is very conservative on his bike, but was hit from behind while he was sitting still at a stop sign. The other guy was talking on his cell phone. Maybe we that drive cars need to be more aware of our surroundings and do not necessarily assume that the bike rider was hauling arse down the road or doing something stupid.
  8. Maybe the lottery board needs to implement something like the WIA as far as the Hope Grant is concerned. Since basically anyone can receive these benefits that chooses to go to a technical college, if that person does not at least achieve a certificate or diploma, they should have to refund the money to the lottery. This would probably cut down on the amount of people that come out of school with absolutely nothing to show for it.
  9. People had posted some great places to stay in the Chattanooga area the other day and I can't find that thread. Can I get some ideas of great places for a couple in their 40's to stay?
  10. Whether you are personally paying for school or not, it does take a tremendous amount of drive and effort to maintain the grades that it takes to keep either the Hope Grant or the Hope Scholarship. I, myself, work full-time, go to school, maintain a 4.0 and still have to find time to be wife, mom, daughter and sister. When I lost my job, I felt that I needed to do something to make myself less expendable the next go round. Since I could not find a job for 11 months, this gave me the perfect opportunity to do just that. I know not everyone goes to school with the best of intentions and those
  11. You are correct and I took advantage of those funds. With the WIA funds, if you are accepted, you must receive at least a certificate or you must repay all of the monies that were paid on your behalf. It is a wonderful program for those that are willing to work hard.
  12. I happen to have been a laid off, older adult that decided to take advantage of the Hope Grant and try to better myself by attending Chatt Tech. I have loved every minute of this experience and I know that I would not have been able to attend on my own. But, I am also one that works my behind off to maintain a 4.0 gpa. There are so many kids in these classes that are there because their parents want them there or they can't find jobs and do not have anything better to do. It is a bad situation sometimes. When I started I had to take the Compass Test and that said where I was academically.
  13. Thank you all so much. It means a lot that you would take the time to say a prayer for me. I have to try to go to bed now and let my mind and body rest for my big adventure in the morning. The Will of God will not take me where the Grace of God cannot protect me.
  14. Calling all prayer warriors!! I am having back surgery in the morning and I would really appreciate all your prayers. I know that the Lord will be watching over me and guiding the doctor's hands, but having an army praying for me is wonderful also. Thanks in advance!!
  15. I lost my job in September, 2008 and decided to go back to school in January, 2009. It has been a great experience and if you go to Chatt Tech you should be able to go on the Hope Grant and then basically the only thing that you pay for is your books and your quarterly fees. Also, there is a possibility that you can get the Pell Grant if you are a single mom. It is based on your income level. I have had a blast and I have about another year to go to get my Associates Degree.
  16. I remember this young man playing soccer with my son and he was a wonderful young man. Words cannot express the sadness that I feel for this young man's family. Thank you to the Estopinal's for the sacrifices that they have made for this country. I know that he will be truly missed by his family and his friends. Rest in peace PFC Estopinal and know that you were loved.
  17. I was in your shoes. I was unemployed for 11 months. I even applied for things that I really did not want to do, but I just needed a job. I am an older person and I feel that was probably an issue for some employers. Stay positive and if nothing else do what I did, go back to school and learn a new trade or expand on the one that you have. It has been a wonderful experience for me and that is also how I finally got a job. One of my teachers had a friend that was looking for someone that could do accounting and they were actually looking for an older individual. It has worked out perfect
  18. Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches, french fries and brownie ice cream sundaes
  19. My son wears Fierce from Abercrombie and he gets compliments from all the ladies!! My husband wears Black Suede from Avon and he has women at work getting it for their husbands.
  20. Pro Designs Landscape is great! Daniel Graham, the owner, is a very nice man and has a great ideas. I don't really know to what extent you are looking for landscaping. There was a company back behind Home Depot and I believe that it was called American Hardwoods or American Flooring. They did our hardwoods in our house and they were beautiful.
  21. Well if it is your anniversary, don't expect Sapparo (sp?) to sing or anything like that. We took my son to the location on Dallas Hwy one year and asked them to sing happy birthday to him. They said sure for $5.00. I said never mind we will do it ourselves. We have never been back, wasn't that good anyway. We do like Taki though.
  22. My son called to tell me about this incident and once more I have been left speechless. My son was definitely shaken by this because he had just seen Caleb a couple of weeks ago bowling. They used to go up to their property and ride four-wheelers and have a blast. It is very hard to understand why he was taken at such a young age, but we have to just believe in our hearts that God knows best. I pray for his family and the heartbreak that they are feeling right now. I sit here and cry for another young, beautiful life snuffed out way too soon. Prayers are sent for everyone that knew and l
  23. Rolllllll Tiiiiide!!! Make us proud guys!
  24. Also keep in mind, if you buy the book in advance ask the teacher if you will be using book. If not, you have a certain number of days to take it back for a full refund. If it is wrapped just make sure that you keep it wrapped and they will refund your money. I have done this on two different occasions.
