I can tell you first hand that NC-17 is the first to stop to see if anyone needs help in any situation. She doesn't even know the people she was helping yesterday - never met them before, and didn't meet her until she was up to her elbows in their wet, insulation covered personal belongings. And now those personal belongings, of the people she'd never met, are in her basement, after she and her family loaded them up and drove across the county back to her home to sift through, clean, and store them. Folks can't post a facebook status about the sniffles or a death in the family withou

Fer reals. Driving up the road at snails pace, hanging out the windows taking pictures? Not cool. Walking onto someone's property and inside of their homes to survey the damage? Un.trucking.real. Folks are lucky the people in attendance were too tired (ya know...from surviving a tornado or actually helping the family) to get feisty.

There were atleast three hit on Thorn Thicket. My friend is missing her roof and two rooms are caved in, then her neighbors on each side were hit (both were on the news - if you watch Fox 5, they point out that her power box is in his yard). I've heard that there are two others on another street, but I don't know where or if it's true. I saw (and posted, if you're on my FB) pictures from the inside tonight, and it's surreal seeing a living room/kitchen without a roof. And the only thing I recognized from on the inside were a fridge, bookcase, overturned couch and a television..the rest i

The report I heard was trailers overturned and roof missing from one wing.

Yes, Pubby

Southern Trace really was hit - not false advertising. A friend of mine (close friend, not just someone through someone) is missing a roof and walls. She said the only place the roof was left was the closet she was hiding in. When I talked to her, she was still in shock and all she could really say was 'It's gone....it's just gone'. According to my friends who went to pick her up, there are several destroyed or half-missing homes in the neighborhood and they're trying to make their way out to get her (and her family) to her parent's house.

Old Cartersville Rd. got hit, but I haven't heard how bad/where yet.
-
First subdivision on the left off of Holly Springs - I *think* most of what got hit is in the very back- my friends towards the middle and front are out of power but don't see any damage.

Just got off the phone with a friend of mine in S. Trace and her house is gone. Walls are down and the only place a roof is left is the closet she, her husband, and 6 month old were in.

Where did you hear that?

I asked, while we were there, if I should just sit in the bathroom with him like my mom did with me (with the shower going on hot) for the steam, and she said 'Why not just put the humidifier in there with his pack-n-play?' Durh. The humidifier helped his little lungs and sinuses SO much more in the small space than in a bigger bedroom.

So chiropractors and honey are unsafe for an infant, but whiskey is okay. Got it. Mine (11 months) had this mess back in early January, and his doctor told me to let him sleep in the bathroom. Sounds nuts, I know, but with the humidifier running in the bathroom (with the fan on), it was SO much easier for him to breathe and not cough than it was with the humidifier in a bigger room. We just propped his pack-n-play up in the master bath and he slept soundly straight through the night, and woke up able to breathe. Whatever makes baby comfortable works for me! Of course, a month and

Is my wife nuts or have other moms noticed this?

Mini-Me's doc says it's not unheard of at age 7 or 8. Not for it to actually start, normally, but the prepubescent hormones can. And, according to the litany of tests she just had done (for various unrelated things), she is most definitely starting the prepubescent hormones already. SEVEN!!! Where's the shooting myself in the head smiley? -
The Industrial, believe it or not, is one of the most painful piercings to heal. Copschick is right about the dial foaming soap. Saline (and mouth wash) are best for tongue and lip piercings, but the Dial foaming soap does amazing with the industrial, the tragus, and other 'odd' piercings'. And don't let people get you down for getting a piercing. I have two professors with multiple visible piercings, one with a skull and crossbones tattoo on her neck, and they are all internationally known in their field. I had blue hair when I worked directly under one of the main higher-ups at the coll

Lucky. All this stupid thing has done for me is keep me from having Mini'est-Me. Of course, I guess that's always a plus? -
I don't turn my AC on until July-ish, if that. Though, I tend to turn it on sooner in the top-floor apartment than I did in the bottom floor. In the bottom floor, I went two entire summers without ever turning it on. I'd rather run around in cheer shorts and a cotton tank top (in my own home!), than turn on the air. I just open the doors and windows, and often put a fan or two in them.

This. This is why you should be okay with your friends being preggo. -
I so heart you. I'm finishing up the girls bouquets, but saving mine until after Mini'er Me's party. I'm sure I'll see you then, or by then! I hadn't even thought of the weather. I've never considered an indoor wedding, though. Ever. Must.be.outdoors!

So cute! With my second pregnancy (not Mini'er-Me, and a long story), as soon as I saw his face on the ultrasound, I said 'Oh goodness, he looks JUST like Mini-Me!' And he did, no joke. Mini'er-me did, too, but not enough for the reaction.

I so missed this. After trying to deal with booking everyone, I finally just looked at him and said 'Honey, why can't we just hike into the woods, in a dress and tux, and do this?'. He looked at me like I had lost my mind and said 'Who said we can't?'. So, that's what we're doing. We hike regularly anyway, to it just suits us to be in the woods. It's just going to be his sister, my daughter, the photographer, videographer (maybe), officiant, he and, I. I bought my dress about a month ago (so not posting until we get the real pics back ) as well as mini-me's dress. We actually hav

It's . I mean, the poor kid is already high-functioning autistic, among other issues. She's a hoot and a half, really...but then you go adding her recently developed hormones to the mix and we're just an explosion waiting to happen. My poor fiance is going to campus to work on a project tomorrow...but I'm fairly certain he really just wants to escape the women of the house. So kidding. Sort of. -
ooooh, I'm nuts over frugal stuff! And if it's eco-friendly, even better! Drives my other half nuts because I go the frugal route even when we an afford whatever it is. Currently, cloth diapering and not using paper products are my biggest money savers other than couponing. We carpool, and that helps alot. I'm also big on upcycling and thrift stores. I found a too-big skirt at the thrift store for $1, and made my daughter and I both skirts out of it. Thrift stores and yard sales were my saving grace as a single mom. Getting creative also helps - I'm reusing formula cans
