  1. I've seen one of them, and I don't remember it. I'm not comedy-challenged, I just don't watch tv! Now, how on earth did you related transformers blowing to a rainbow party anyway?
  2. He's ROTTEN. But oh-so-adorable. Yesterday he got serious toddler'tude with me because I gave him one cookie. Held his empty hand out, said 'Uh!' and then glared at his hand, then me, then his hand, then me... like 'Wtf, mom?'. So, I gave him another cookie, and he popped off with 'Tainchu!' ::instantmelts:: But now I've trained him to give me attitude.
  3. Guilty. Not intentionally, but still guilty. When the top comes down, things sometimes just...vanish. You have no idea how funny that is.
  4. There is no guarantee of quality. I doubt my ability to boil an egg sometimes. Birthday party!! Genius idea. And yep! Little one is turning one this weekend.
  5. I'll be up all night baking cupcakes in a jar, making layered jello, layered rice crispy treats, and and layered cookies in rainbow colors. Lawd, what have I got myself into? Someone entertain me...
  6. ^^ up there, click on 'Members'. Then, to the right (really tiny) click 'Post Count'. Voila!
  7. This is how my spring cleaning starts, and I technically started early. I got rid of 9 garbage bags of 'stuff' a couple weeks ago, and The Thrift Store picked up a truck of furniture this morning. As of now, the contents of my closet are strewn across my room and I have two garbage bags of clothes and purses ready to donate. Mini'est Me's stuff is already done, but I still need to hit Mini-Me's. Then I'll get to the rest of the house. Hopefully. I try to get the 'going through stuff' phase done during my Spring Break (this week) but it's been delayed by my friend being hit by a torna
  8. There are two entrances to the walking part that we use - one off of the walking path and the other behind the pond. When you're on the walking part, you'll see mini-trails that literally cross the walking paths - those are the biking paths. We walk both...it really isn't hard to get out of their way in time. I've never even had even a remotely close call and can probably count on one hand how many bikers we've had pass us in a year.
  9. ^^ I'm not sure that's a complete question. I'm assuming you were asking what other jobs society sees as demeaning? OH and I just had this discussion the other night - society sees most hard-labor jobs as demeaning (unless and until it becomes beneficial to them...then they love their plumber, septic people, etc.) This is a long video, but absolutely excellent, and you should watch it: http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/en/mike_rowe_celebrates_dirty_jobs.html
  10. It's so quiet out there, we'd hear you coming. Their walking trails cross paths with the biking trails quite often, but you won't find folks walking the biking trails too much.
  11. Which is just . While you're not likely to find me picking up trash on the side of the road (I was hit by a car two summers ago and am now petrified of getting hit again), I can't see helping people, or helping the environment, or helping society as punishment. It's my duty.
  12. I agree, but don't at the same time. For me, personally, that's exactly what my liberal arts education has taught me (so far....I'm a junior, so I still have a ways to go).
  13. Government assistance is divided into different districts, most often by county. If she lives in an overloaded district (and, from the news report of 50% on food stamps, I would say they're more than overloaded), it's not hard to slip through the cracks. Someone I know, for example, set up child support payments through Child Support Services immediately after their divorce. It was just easier for them to have it taken care of automatically. Because they're in Dekalb County (which is insanely overloaded), they were told it would take 6 months or longer to process simple paperwork to have
  14. ....I'm pretty sure you took my Econ course last semester. You sound, nearly verbatim, like my professor when he explained the current state of America and American unemployment. By the way, said professor is German. Not just German descent, but actually born/raise/educated there and is just here teaching for a few semesters, so he doesn't have a political bias.
  15. I actually haven't watched that movie. I think I own it, but I don't do television often. We know July for sure (I *should* be there for my birthday on the 19th, but only a day or so longer), and either 10 or 12 days depending on how many people sign up for the trip. If there's more of us, they'll let me do 12 days (it's normally by week, and 12 days means an extra trip for them)
  16. My major focuses of study are Values, International Affairs, and Peace Studies - my Masters will be in International Conflict Management. So, it's right on target with the things I'm working with through campus, just...not on campus. I worked with my adviser on picking a program that would look the best for grad school (which is why it's for school, but not), and knew I really wanted to do something in the Middle East, and he helped me find this particular one. One of their volunteer opportunities involves painting and art-related stuff with the kids, so I'm excited.
  17. Sort of? It's for school, but it's not a school-planned study abroad. I'm going over to volunteer with the street children in Delhi. But I'm not just hopping a plane and backpacking around India or anything. I'm staying in an organization owned hostel with other volunteers, working with a specific program - even the meals and travel are all taken care of by the same people. I'm covered!
  18. I'll take pictures! If I can fit a camera in my backpack anyway. I'm going over with basically nothing - clothes on my body, passport, travel info, a bar of Kirk's castille soap, and enough room in my backpack to stuff the clothes I buy while I'm there (they're super cheap, and made for India weather). I
  19. You know, I hear that all the time but in my year of walking there with OH and The Mini's, we've only ran across other people a handful of times. We spend hours in those woods (per Mini-Me's request) when the weather is nice-ish - were just there yesterday around 6ish.
  20. We haven't decided yet - entirely depends upon when/how long I'm going to India. That's not a vacation to most, but I'm beyond thrilled. Generally, I make vacation plans only to find out one of my families is going to the beach somewhere and wants us to join, so we're just holding off on plans until we figure out their plans as well.
