  1. Mojo... the planning and zoning commission was established by the county's zoning laws to conduct the public hearings. I'm thinking that the citizens advisory committees may have to be formally recognized by the IBA and AA ... They would report and hold hearings, etc. for those bodies and would need to be authorized by them. The chairman could direct them to be formed but since they wouldn't be reporting directly to the BOC ... and their budget requirements (if any) would be miniscule - a few hundred to a few thousand dollars and that would be assuming they engage an attorney at all wh
  2. Why make them go to facebook to find the address? It ought to be in your sig, btw. pubby
  3. Steve Jobs didn't like Adobe or the broad adoption of 'flash' and began making it impossible for folks with apple gear to consume flash content because it exposed the slower processors he was using. So, instead of a 32kb file (the flash file above, I have to copy the image of it that is 118kb but because it is a raster image instead of a vector, takes less procession power on your end. ... I may exaggerate ... I think the real reason was that flash was something he couldn't control and he was a control freak.)
  4. That is the reason that I started this topic. Denial never got anyone anywhere. But that also begs the point of the value, both residual and potential, that remains. I mean, the notion presented above that there are but 12 folks on line is really kind of odd. Even if you're listing registered members, the current number (I copied and pasted this in the last five minutes from the post time above) shows 36 members online and ... 113 lurkers. Folks should also know that we have an email list that, while it would no doubt have a lot bounces, could probably drive audiences bac
  5. The prescription for enhanced moderation would probably take out folks on both sides of the aisle including several who have posted in this topic ... and you're right LPPT ... it isn't going to happen. pubby
  6. First, the site itself will not likely disappear. The real question are the resources devoted to it and more specifically the continued investment in office space and also my investment in time and effort. The site, for the record, had a tremendous amount of support and engagement at one time. From a standpoint of being a part of the bigger mix of things ... the competition from facebook, patch and the major and minor mania associated with them all have taken a toll. The idea of a local community and network remains a good idea and, just as the comments here should demonstrate, each

  8. I think some want to limited government ... Many of these folks don't want the government to do anything ... tax people, regulate businesses, educate the children but, amazingly, they do want the government to be able to execute people. One need no longer wonder why they seek political power and dominance. pubby

  10. TP: I know where this is going and I'm killing the topic now. pubby PS: We've seen this before.
  11. Jeremy: I've retired your account, changed the email address and password. It is now impossible for anyone to post using the membership. The only thing involved in the post in question was the headline seemed to throw aspersions on the gun club. pubby
  12. Following is a release from the Haralson-Paulding Drug Task Force referencing their activities in May.
  13. That, cmorg, was spoken with the same sincere seriousness as the Pope expressed when he threatened Galileo with death over the outrageous notion that the earth orbited the sun for as we all know, God made us and put us at the center of the earth. I tell a true story of having business in the city of Atlanta courts building back in 2001. I was there to confirm the desire of the company I was working with that we wanted the teenagers who had busted a hole in the brick and stole stuff should be prosecuted. At that time I had a really nice Swiss Army Knife with a coca-cola logo on it. I

  15. Do remember stradial that back in the day the population of the country was 150 million (in 1950) and 330 million today. On top of that, the south was not as densely populated back then either. So Georgia, which had 3.4 million people in the state in 1950 would have ... if the state grew at about the same rate as the rest of the nation - 6.8 or 7 million residents. But the fact is that Georgia grew a lot faster than a lot of other states and in 2010 had a population of 9.8 million. The murder rate, for instance, has more than 'halved' from 1980 to 2014 dropping from the rate of nearl
  16. Stradial-SDN ... you guys watch too much TV ... the violence is movies and television shows is where the perception that violence is running out of control originates. Old folks, who recall the specifics of that 1962 death - yep I remember a Deputy Sheriff getting killed when he and other officers were called to surround a house because the resident - a WWII vet suffering from PTSD - was drunk and firing from his house. Caught the Deputy peering in a window. The cops shot up the house. Actually, social science research shows that, say murder, has been declining in the western world
  17. Not unless you were a victim. The thing about the violence that does occur is that its nature has changed. There have always been murders in Chicago ... or in small rural bergs ... it is just that people hushed the story of the man who killed his daughter and her boyfriend because he was tapping his daughter and was jealous - or the husband/wife thingy. The Chicago stuff was also hushed because the mob, at least in some cases, was better at using the concrete overshoes ... you just didn't hear about Lenny any more ...where'd he go? You don't know how many people just used to d
  18. I've posted several pieces from RSA ... which for those who don't know is the Royal Society of the Arts - a 262 year old institution that, at least when he was alive, included amongst its members Benjamin Franklin. Given the level of debate in Georgia over education, I think it may demonstrate the difficulty I have relating to anyone running for that office as I basically see them all as defenders of the status quo which is woefully inadequate.
  19. Well Citizencain; I think this is even a bit more over the top than even you suspected. The individuals went to Nevada and were disappointed when they were kicked off the Bundy Ranch, not because they weren't right-wing enough but because the guy was a felon and they didn't want felons - even 'patriotic ones' in the mix. The reports I've seen is they lay "Don't tread on me" flags on the slain officers as well as leaving behind a trail of posts and other evidence they were bigoted anti-government folks. Here is the Las Vegas newspaper's account that has some interesting comments. Seem
  20. I think that many folks misinterpret the attitudes that someone doing killing may have. The idea that they may not only burn in hell but burn here may be an incentive. The thing that most people fear, even more than death, is something akin to eternal boredom doing what someone else tells you to do down to when you can walk outside or take a crap. They may just kill a witness because if they're looking at a long-time behind bars, they may figure that by taking out a witness, they may be able to duck conviction altogether and if not, they may not be on death row as long as they'd be
  21. Absolutely... and the article says he was a Dallas native ... which may be true. I'm sure someone from here has moved to Florida before. But I was never EVER trying to criticize Mrs. G. for posting it or calling her crazy for reading what was in the AJC, etc. I was just trying to get it right. pubby
  22. Let's see; create a 'popular horse' that looks like he could win the triple crown; get a ton of folks to bet on him to win; look at the odds. What the guy could have said is that the smart money was on the actual winners who understood the game ... The horse racing/gambling industry is pissed at the guy because he pulled back the curtain. pubby
  23. This is a breaking news story about a man in Forsyth County who was expected to either accept or reject a plea bargain ....
