  1. I heard that is all I can say. Actually, loser pays is a policy regarding lawsuits that the GOP has been promoting for the past 30 years Whitey. Herb is a Republican and, Todd and the majority of folks in the county. I would say that most of the Republicans who don't want the citizens filing the failed lawsuit and don't want them to pay are hypocrites. Now, I wouldn't think of such a thing being as I'm a Democrat and to my knowledge the party has never put such a plank in their platform. pubby
  2. This is apparently a case from March of this year and the city of Farmers Branch had sought to have lower court rulings judging local governments interfering with the immigration policy of the national government unconstitutional under the equal protection of the law clause. http://www.dallasnews.com/news/community-news/carrollton-farmers-branch/headlines/20140303-supreme-court-refuses-farmers-branch-immigration-ordinance.ece The case may be heard in the affirmative as another similar ordinance was upheld in a different circuit. That case may be heard. pubby
  3. It wasn't a nazi reference ceejay ... it was intended as a well known reference to the bad guys winning a victory. For the record, both my mother and father were active combat duty (my mother was a nurse in a field hospital in the North African campaign and my father was there and fought the war in Sicily and Italy in a unit that was among the first to engage in the European theater.) In regard to the social interaction; if you read the commentary at the time here, it is obvious that many folks from the anti-side were here using the site to their advantage ... and because of my belief in
  4. Tundra: That is fine and good and you should be proud of your accomplishments but that doesn't make you right; and while the polls and politicians elected on May 20th may suit you, it doesn't make you right. Hell, the German soldiers who routed the British at Dunkirk were justifiably proud of their victory as well; but it didn't make them right. pubby
  5. All I can say to that Whitey is that 80 percent of the citizens of the United States of America thought that Saddam Hussein was responsible for the attack on 911 ... due to lies. I personally never promised anything regarding the airport in my campaign other than to make it successful and my judgment was that since we have a lot people here and no corporate business (kind of the nature of a bedroom community) that a passenger airport is a better path to success for that facility. Countering that was the lie that the airport going commercial would turn Paulding into Clayton County and w
  6. Mojo: They were where you were because they were attending gatherings organized and centered around the anti-airport craze. The energy associated with that 'crusade' was visible and real. They fed off that energy. The anti folks were also - and while you personally were not among the key propagandists - raising questions about who was bought and how much they were paid and all that jazz. Absolute bull hockey but, at your next family reunion, pull a prank and spread a lie about one of the male cousins: start a whisper campaign about how he's beating his wife and kids ... and see

  8. I can appreciate your attitude about that soundguy but I don't see either as pie in the sky ... In particular with the airport I see it as a conflict between an group of businesses and government in Atlanta that have a vested interest in keeping their monopoly and spending some really big bucks to manipulate the local politics of a local community to maintain their economic advantage. Indeed, it is because of the political and economic power concentrated in Delta and HJIA that the secrecy was absolutely required. That view was based on the information that I have, my experience and
  9. This man was at Antietam and he became President of United States partly on the fame he enjoyed when, as a 19-year old, he braved Confederate fire to bring his fellow union soldiers some hot coffee. It was considered such an act of heroism at the time that there was a statue commissioned to that affect. While we might all have a fondness for coffee - both north and south - the blockades restricted its availability in the south and the non-caffeine substitutes in the south, didn't have the pop of the various concoctions of joe that warmed as much as it inspired. But the question here is

  11. I just wish there was a vote in November but that was too late for you,Whitey. Why? because I can say with assurance that there are a lot of folks who don't think economic growth brings crime, gangs, bad schools and a degraded life style. I does bring higher taxes because there is more economic activity and the government runs on a percentage of the 'handle' ... But those folks were simply not as passionate in their support for growth and activity as NIMBY's. The pros at blackrock U or whatever that firm that handles all the tea party poopers and whatever, played the May 20th election l
  12. You heard right. There were no signatures filed with the election office whatsoever. No signatures, no placement on the ballot. Oh well. pubby
  13. Apparently they have figured out how to spoof the caller IDs ... I think the Dallas PD is particularly upset that the scammers are using their number to misrepresent themselves. Det. Hurd said that he's already been told not to expect to be sent to India to investigate even though he told the Chief that he would like to get a gander at the Taj Mahal. The point is that you can't trust the caller ID. Det. Hurd did say that if you have a question with a call from the DPD, tell them that you want verification and ask them for the real 770-443 number to call back and they'll give it to you a
  14. If you get a call from some weird, India-sounding guy identifying himself as member of the Dallas Police and threatening to come arrest you if you don't send him money, please don't fall for this new and disturbing scam. Figuring out this is a scam may be harder than you imagine because the callers are now tricking your caller ID to make it look like the Dallas PD originated the call. "That is what is scary," said Det. Alan Hurd of the Dallas Police who said they he had never heard of phone identity spoofing. Det. Hurd said that his office has received more than one report of resid

  16. He's done updates of his text books but really isn't widely quoted or noted as an author of articles nor did he seem to take part in the debate about health care reform in the 2008 period. Here is what he said in 2006: Of course we know now that his predictions of, for instance, a state-sponsored health insurance product in competition with private insurers was not enacted. We also know that the continued rise in health care insurance has been thwarted since the passage of the ACA. This situation was also noted by the author that quoted him in his article predicting a single-pay
  17. No actually, when the discussion veers off to discuss things like moderation, the topic is either talked to death or so totally off topic that it ought to be closed. As far as the article cited by ms. howard the reality there are naturally folks who defend the status quo that grew the share of health care spending in the economy from under 5 percent in the 1960s to over 17 percent today. Those who make that case are hoping to one day capture 25 percent of all spending in the economy. Hell, their holy grail is to develop a magical pill that they will hold the exclusive patent that will m
  18. It not only makes sense to let the guy by but it is a definite benefit particularly if you're driving over the speed limit. It is always a good thing to be the second fastest traveler with someone driving faster drawing the attention of the traffic police. The issue addressed by the law is the adhoc rolling roadblock put in place by a person or persons who intentionally and self-righteously drive the speed limit and get their jollies by exasperating others who deem it reasonable to travel at a faster pace. These people actually think they are promoting safety and the law by their acti
  19. Pick the thing off ???? never ... However, the whole cholesterol thing and the resulting mess - egg shells - has me buying the cholesterol free egg mix these days. You know the stuff in the milk cartons. Shake 'em up and pour them, low cal and no cholesterol and I do like eggs. But I can't imagine being picky about that little thing. It looks like cooked egg white to begin and it slides down just fine. pubby
  20. You are both absolutely right. Here's how it happened. The medical societies got together and lobbied the state legislatures to limit the size of medical school classes (A majority of the Doctors in the US are graduated by state-medical schools.) By limiting the number of doctors, a shortage was induced allowing doctors to charge more for their services citing supply and demand. This became the plan when some smart doctors saw that, instead of families in their community were having to cough up the cost of medical care, but Uncle Sam would, they had to figure how they could get more and
  21. Ignorance is bliss but then there are a lot of happy people. I expect that there are some attorney's out there who would be glad to seek punitive damages against a redneck and the company selling the kits (modifications to emissions systems is tacitly illegal) so if you have a asthmatic child, do get a car cam with your Prius and document the assault and not only sue for damages but insist that the ignorant be arrested for assault. Oh, and Zorro ... those throwing red paint on fur-wearing folks are subject to arrest. The difference between the two is that the mom in the Prius with two
  22. First of all, I'm aware of the contention that the disparity in wages between the sexes are there for a reason. Second, it is obviously not a settled fact that women and men in the same company doing the exact job with the same results are always equally compensated. Next you're going to be favoring laws that allow corporations and individuals to contribute unlimited amounts of money into the political process anonymously. Oh wait, that element of manipulation intertwined with secrecy is already the agenda of the right. You either believe in disclosure and information or you bel
  23. The really funny thing is the right's efforts to destroy obamacare - the only privatization approach to universal health care possible - could end with the takeover of health care with a single payer system. The only other alternative would be to charge a more representative amount of money as fine or penalty - the $300,000,000 amount in fines that could have been assessed against hobby lobby by the HHS rules being to me the real problem that gave the justices pause and caused their 5-4 decision in their favor. The change I would recommend would be $50/yr per employee for each proced
