  1. He hasn't been a customer for four or five years... Oh, and you get to make your obnoxious remarks because I let you. I let you because I believe in free speech and even speech I don't like. But rest assured I can direct myself to do any thing I bloody well please and I'll say whatever I bloody well want and since neither are monitorin the site or shutting up, I can only surmise you comment is an ineffective whine. I won't threaten it, but you do know that I could, without infringing on your free speech rights as provided you by me, change your name to dickhead. It does have th
  2. When I logged off last night around 11 p.m. it seemed fine. I got at least one email after midnight ... I didn't go again until about 11:30 a this morning and I couldn't get anything. I couldn't get to the server company because they had changed their policy regarding phone contact (you can't get through) ... so I was contacting them through the sales, billing depts. when I remembered I had some previous tickets that I could use to contact the servers help desk. They got it going about 40 minutes ago. The server itself seemed to be down/off ... maybe someone walking down the aisle just
  3. I found that speakers assertion grossly over-estimated the impact of technology. For technology to have the affect I stated would need only replace 30 jobs for each technology job created. I am gratified that you chose to respond to a TP -started topic. I was under the impression you said you didn't read them as they were a waste of your time. pubby
  4. Rose: What struck me from the conversation was the differing and divergent purposes I think each of us individually project on the educational system in terms of the goals. When we couple that with our aspirations for our children it becomes a pretty ephemeros target that defies consensus. I know that many parents of children with disabilities were put off by your blanket statement that you didn't want your child in an inclusion class. Being of the age I am and having seen coffee be good and bad, mustard be good and bad, the climate both predicted to chill and to warm that the fac
  5. Education is the topic in this edition of the Pat and Patti Show and co-host Deena Sanfilippo grapples with the education of her son who is entering the third grade this fall. Her decision - to home school - and that brings up the dilemma presented by the various curriculum available in Paulding for home schoolers. An interesting and perhaps informative discussion that ranges from Michael Millikin to Religion ensues. Click for RECENT TOPICS click for RECENT TOPICS click for RECENT TOPICS
  6. This guy is not all wrong but he certainly is wrong on enough things for me to call him a bullcheeze artist. He lost me when he was saying that digital elections processes ought to be the norm suggesting that the current practice is 1: Not digital (it is) and 2. that digital forms are not subject to gross manipulation.(Present practice pretty much assumes this.) What most folks, including this guy, don't realize is that you have to go a lot deeper than the notion of what is the conventional wisdom to even know what you are talking about. His approach is to over simplify (his asser
  7. PS: You should watch it fast because apparently Sony pictures is pigging out on the copyright blocks on the "comedians in cars getting coffee" youtube channel. Unbelievable. pubby
  8. /> Stephen Colbert is Jerry Seinfeld's guest in his online program "Comedians in cars getting Coffee." This is a laid back interview with the bulk of pretension being the use of cars like the 1964 Morgan +4 ... which given the oddity of this wooden-framed English sports car - is pretty damned pretentious. That said, a camera crew follows the two around from the pickup to the trip to the coffee shop to the grinding of gears as Colbert's standard shifting skills conflict with the non-synchronized transmission in the vulnerable classic four-banger. 9. The text I got from here was absolutely giddy. From what I've heard, there are some truly positive things on the horizon and Thad would be in the middle of them. He's needed, wanted and loved by many here and everywhere. pubby
  10. I think the county has and ought to withdraw its support from the 139 application as it is no longer the operator of the airport and technically has nothing to do with the airport other than appointing new members to the airport authority when vacancies occur. I don't think the BOC has any more right to detail or direct the activities of the airport authority than it does the activities of the Wellstar Health System ... another entity that the BOC appoints members to a board (Paulding Hospital Board). That the Paulding BOC approved bonds for the construction of the Wellstar Paulding Hospi
  11. Oh, I see, I seems like your novel is a modern adaptation of the Leo Frank story, you know the guy with the pencil factory in Marietta, except with a happier ending than a bunch of red neck yahoos hanging some guy from a oak tree as they stand around in their pointy-hats. pubby
  12. Those were not my words and I saw what happened and edited it. pubby
  13. All your prof is saying is that corporations will maximize profits and if they thought they could maximize profits by expanding the work force with part time (typically lower skill, workers whom they are not particularly concerned about keeping because they will be subject to hire by those offering full time work, a situation that exists because these part time workers by definition do not represent a tremendous investment on the part of the corporation.) It is not money because corporations have not been more profitable in history. Of course the reason they can 'get by' with these lo
  14. Yes, a lot of folks reading this topic are too. Sounds like you want anti-business government. The chamber is not a democratic organization; it is a business organization that is there to represent those invested in the community. This organization is largely influenced by those with large investments such as the telephone companies, cable companies, electric utilities, manufacturers and to a lesser degree, retail businesses that populate the community. Industries such as real estate development, land moving, surveying, engineering etc., as well as the media - all of whom depend on i
  15. This topic is more complex and is related to how technology is impacting our economy. What was discovered after the massive layoffs in the 2008 collapse was that with the technology in place, the economy could run - at higher profits for the corporations - with fewer employees. Technology resources had increased the potential contribution - i.e. productivity - of workers so much that not as many workers were required to maintain the GDP at the higher levels. Well, one thing I can pretty much guarantee we don't do ... is quietly starve. Obviously, people being somewhat inventi
  16. They snuck back into Paulding to Lanzo's joint and showed a picture from his bar ... and also mentioned crossing the county line. Aren't we proud pubby
  17. He was 'Fat Albert' ... would you have made Fat Albert? It is really sad ... but we all had to know. pubby
  18. I got a note from the SO saying that a person who thinks they are a relative has come forward and that SO is taking their DNA and that from the body to determine if there is a match. That said, we expect more news after, or if, a positive identification has taken place. pubby
  19. Just got a note from Melissa and I'm going to take it in the context of no news is good news as there has been no change. The no news part is that Thad has not yet awakened but he is still with us and the status quo is the status quo - i.e. he is still with us. Melissa is worried but something led her to say that she thinks he will awaken later this evening. We can all pray for that. pubby
  20. You guys are just too impressed by 'authority' for your own good. Hell, our own Patrick Lanzo could give them a few hints on how to say screw you in fun ways. As far as whining ... you guys take the cake whether or not it was baked for a gay or a straight. pubby
  21. Hardly ... it is obvious that some wealthy folks are enlightened and take a longer term view. That, unfortunately, is not universal. pubby
  22. I just got a text from Melissa ... Thad remains sedated and there has been no change from earlier. They are working on bringing his vitals to better levels before seeking to revive him. I posted back to her it sounds to me like no news is good news. pubby
  23. Let me emphasize your statement: Even if you redistributed the wealth, dollars would still flock into the hands of the wealthy when all was said and done. Yes, that is the way it has always been. But the key point is that war, famine, petulance, ignorance, profligacy, crime and revolution have all been there as tools to redistribute the wealth. Add to that 'new lands' ... the new world ... colonialism and other games and you realize that redistribution of wealth from the wealthiest to the least is how we have been successful. I mean the Pharaohs at one time had a pretty good handle
  24. You think that story was odd ... you should see the Joe Camel video posted in the "free speech" topic That is a hoot ! pubby
