  1. "Excuse me, but I don't care for your iconography." https://youtu.be/RYPjOeJyNDI As the reigns of a social system change hands with its evolution, its easy for the hands holding those reigns to become what they once railed against. The easiest way to create an angry enemy is to tell someone they cannot be proud of who they are and from where and whom they come.

  3. Was lucky enough to be at one of the better spots to see the last one in downtown. The show ain't up in the sky. Wait until you see what the light does around you on the ground.
  4. These have been mentioned a couple of times lately. I'm bored and this falls into the wheelhouse of things I know something about so. You're going to deal with these more and more going forward, there absolutely not going away. You can look for them to be installed at any and all State Route intersections to be upgraded that are currently controlled by signage and warning lights alone. Also those intersections controlled by signage to be upgraded that include a SR and a higher volume surface street and intersections involving two higher volume surface streets that are being reconstructed with
  5. Traffic in the roundabout has the right of way. The whole idea is for traffic to keep moving. Get in were there is a gap.
  6. https://goo.gl/images/VQ1X5M Don't know if that's gonna work.
  7. Ma'am, with all respect, I was involved in the construction of the roundabout at SR5 and SR166 that's used by truck traffic every day. They're talking about something way more massive than what you're in visioning.
  8. That's what I was wondering about. Went by a couple months ago and workers were hard at it. Been by twice since then and haven't seen any change from the first time.
  9. Looking out the window at the damp muggy swamp that is Georgia in August, when it's not 95 degrees w/90% humidity and 100% chance of afternoon showers, the mind rambles back to the last few rides I've got in. Every direction I take off in there's new stuff sprouting everywhere. From the countryside right on in to the towns. Things seem to be booming everywhere. Except for you poor folks down at the Roses intersection. What in the world has happened to your convenience store/nail salon/cleaners? That's gonna get real ugly real fast if it's abandoned.
  10. They're talking about one down at 61 and Liberty/Mirror Lake. Made the mistake of getting caught down there the wrong time of day about 3 times now. You folks that have to deal with that every day have my sympathy, don't know how you do it. Anything there would have to be an improvement.
  11. I don't have one for you, but just a small piece of advice. Any recommendation you get, make sure it's as recent as possible. It's the kind of business where circumstances can change quickly.
  12. First known use England, 1820's.
  13. Something else just popped into my head upon further review of the subject materials , in keeping with the curiosity as expressed above, I looked up this origin at dictionary.com and thought I'd include it here; Oblique: "early 15c., from Middle French oblique (14c.) and directly from Latin obliquus "slanting, sidelong, indirect"
  14. A Discovery Channel thing set me to wondering about the history of words and phrases (yeah, yeah, I get the argument of whether the definition uses "word" or "linguistic form", but for gods sake just let it go for a sec......k?). So lately when descriptors come into my head due to various stimuli to which I find myself exposed, I've been doing a little looking up to see where they come from. Today after perusing some of my favorite web sites, the term "wet blanket" kept going thru my mind. What I found on it I thought to be personally illuminating and I just wanted to share. An example from
  15. Oh yeah. I forgot about the tenfoottallkeyboarditis. Also a prevalent malady that leads to chronic aholeism often resulting tin widespread feelings of anymosity almost always concluding with richardheadacondria.
  16. Neither is exclusive of the other.
  17. Agreed that this sort of thing is a problem and doesn't look good for the county. Having said that I believe we, as a county, have a much worse problem with properties used as dumps. I just believe we have more of a trash problem than a weed problem. I'll grant you too that it's more of an upclose issue for me and that might skew the view. I've got it blocked off now with plants and buildings, but about 30' from my line and almost exactly halfway between my house and his, the neighbor started a pile some years ago. First it was a boat leaning on its side. Then the boat filled up with huge
  18. The last time I used Pate's they came out to work on my dryer. It had a couple of three different problems and was 6 or 7 years old at that time. We talked it over and he explained to me the cost of fixing it all, which was way yonder more than it was worth. So we decided on the one fix that was reasonable and would give me a little more use of it. That was just about 10 years ago. That damn dryer is still in there running with those same problems and a couple more right now. Snags my clothes, leaves scorch marks (or something) on them and gets socks and rags stuck in the drum so that they ne
  19. Man I hate to brag on it 'cause you just know it's jinxed now but... The Whirlpool Dishwasher in my kitchen was bought in 1996.
  20. Last time I used one it was Pate's Appliance Repair. Honest and quick. Can't tell you what they charge. Unless you have a circuit tester and know how to use it, you're gonna need someone. 13 years old, if it was me, I'd replace. A burned out relay today is next months motor.
  21. Geez guys. You gotta get WAY YONDER out in the country to find places that do this still. Just the exposure to EPA Hazardous Waste fines from an unattended public dumpster!
  22. Spit balling here. Understanding the reasons for, and the drawbacks of, code enforcement going criminal. One being the problem with the whole affidavit and witness testimony requirements (hate that). What about a little simple public exposure. Some postings of pictures without specific locations given, starting with the more public instances of possible code violations. Sort of a round of name that trash. Entertaining for the board and maybe enough of a public relations poke in the ribs to move that office. Bet you views and responses would be huge. A community response with just the small h
  23. No opinion either way about the rest of it, but some practical experience with the code enforcement part. The short lived City of Lithia Springs tried using a Code Enforcement Officer. They went as cheap as they could go. It was just one middle aged guy in an old used car with no law enforcement powers. They physically and literally ran him out of the neighborhoods. He wouldn't go into the offending properties by himself and the Sheriff wouldn't help. It was a fiasco.
  24. Woo Hoo! Now I'm big time. Got this in an e-mail: "Your recent purchase of the 10-ounce Yeti Lowball was missing something: the lid! A container isn't much good without a lid, is it? We're very sorry for this mistake. We have worked with our vendor to get lids and will be shipping them out to you. Please allow about 2 weeks for delivery. In the meantime, think of your Yeti as an incredibly rugged soup mug until the lid arrives." TWO lids now. Ain't I fancy?
