  1. I've recently begun educating myself on some of the snakes we find in GA. Reason? Because I killed a good snake a couple of weeks ago, and then felt guilty after I found out it was a friendly..not a foe. I still don't like looking at them, and still don't wanna meet another one, but at least I hope to learn the difference between poisonous and non-poisonous snakes. Oh...yours is a king snake.
  2. I am sure you'll all be able to navigate it a bit better in the future, after having had this experience. I'd try not to make it a big blowup, and just move on. All will be well.
  3. Found my 2nd one yesterday, came in with the dog. They take Comfortis for fleas, guess I'm gonna ask the vet what to do about ticks on the next visit! Neither tick was attached but it kinda freaked me out. Until this year, I haven't found a tick on me since I was a kid.
  4. My mom, granny, aunt, cousin and I used to go to Pigeon Forge for "girl" weekends. They were a blast! Chateau Elan would be LOTS of fun if you wanted some pampering.
  5. I'd chalk it up to a learning lesson and the next time she calls needing that much work done, then volunteer to help with some of the chores for free (if you feel led to do that). I'd definitely set limits on what work I'd do next time around though. Family should help each other to some extent, IMO. My family would never, ever, expect another family member to perform all that work for $50.00 and would insist on paying fairly...esp when they know the person doing all that work needs the money. While we are close, we aren't all up into each other's "business", nor do we feel we owe anyone else
  6. I found one on the back of my knee just last week. I hadn't been out anywhere, so I assume it came in on one of our dogs and then got on me. It was crawling, so it hadn't attached. I was getting ready for bed, and hubby was already snoring...imagine his surprise when I yanked the covers off singing "Ticks" by Brad Paisley. Haha!!!
  7. No, the doctors said it wasn't likely airborne (once they figured out what they were actually dealing with), which was a huge relief, because we'd all been loving on her for a week before she died. We have no clue how/where she got it. My mom & granny did everything together, since granny didn't drive much anymore, and mom never got sick.
  8. Thank you! It's going better...but I'm still going to bed early tonite. Tomorrow is a really really busy day for me!
  9. It's VERY dangerous and spreads/eats away tissue quickly. Flesh eating bacteria is what killed my grandmother last October. It was inside her body, and by the time the doctors knew what they were facing, it was too late. She died within 4 hours while on life support.
  10. Very, very few things live up to the hype for me. My solution? I don't get excited over much of anything. That way when something really is wonderful or great, I'm even happier about it. If something is disappointing, it doesn't bother as much.
  11. I'm not really a lover of that show. I watch it because the husband controls the remote...or I'll go watch tv in another room. I was surprised when I heard this morning that Colton was voted off. I figured something was brewing in the background but didn't give it any further thought. My fav this year is Elise. Now she's probably doomed to be voted off because my picks never win. LOL
  12. I'm thinking handcuffs were probably the safest way to restrain her and keep her from being injured, and others from being injured. Cops don't usually encounter 6 yo children acting like she was, but I think they did the right thing. I agree with others in this thread that have said that there seems to be an increase, or maybe we just hear about it more nowadays, of children with some sort of mental health issues. I don't understand it all.
  13. Yep! Networking is always a great way to get a foot in the door!
  14. And rightly so. I've only made one lateral move in my life with my career/pay (until I was laid off in 2007). In the past I've left companies for better working conditions, higher pay, better benefits elsewhere. I always worked a minimum of 6 years before I started looking elsewhere though. I'd make sure I'd expanded my experience and knowledge of my field...when I felt I'd gone as far as I could go with a company then I would find a new job.
  15. You...SHUT IT! You know exactly what I was trying to convey. Don't try to twist my post into something to start drama with. I never said anything to lead you, or anyone else, to believe that I feel her virtue was taken from her. My message was for her to be empowered to stand up for herself and not let some butt wipe little boy get his way with her.
  16. Moonie...at this point the school and media should be left alone (unless it happens again). What you DO need to do now is to teach your daughter to stand up for herself, right now. This is not an easy, sweet, cookie cutter world we live in and she needs to know that her virtue is worth fighting for.
  17. Oy vey...this thread gave me a headache. For what it's worth...both parties have guilt in this whole thing happening. Should it have ended in murder? NO. I don't think race has any play in this except for those that want race to be an issue.
  18. Oh my...I had no idea y'all were dealing with this. I knew you & SW had your hands full, but not to this degree. I am so very sorry y'all (you, SW, your daughter AND your son) are going thru all of this. I really don't have any advice, but I will most definitely pray for y'all. (hug)
  19. I saw them all over the place around Lake Allatoona, Marietta and Cartersville the other day. You could hear them hitting the windshield of the van while we were driving.
  20. I haven't seen any on FB yet either. I say "yet" because I'm sure I will at some point. Death doesn't bother me. I took pics of both of my grandmothers in the casket, but I don't share the pics. And seeing them dead isn't the only memory I have of them. I think what I miss most is hearing their voices. I can still "hear" their laughs, or the way they said my name, in my mind...but it's fading with time.
  21. Hahaha! Ya know...that gives me an idea. We can make our own. Just buy a bunch of the chocolate bunnies. We'll maim them and then slop red food dye all over em! Heeheeheeeee!
  22. Oh, believe me, I agree there are some things that come out of Pat Robertson's mouth are an embarrassment to the Christian community. His foundational beliefs about Christ are spot on though. As for making pot legal...yep, I agree with it. Yeah, I smoked it for many years when I was younger. Did it serve as a gateway drug? No. Did I run stark raving mad down the street hurting others? No. Did it cause any long term damage to me? None, except for getting fat from having the munchies. Legalize it, tax it, smoke it, and chill the hell out.
