  1. I am the daughter of a WWII Navy vet, so yes, I am very aware of what this day means. We had a cookout yesterday and doing nothing today. DH and DD have gone to see a movie and DS is working. We are truly grateful for the sacrifices our service men and women have given so that we can do these things. FWIW, I always have an American flag flying proudly on my home year round. Our military, past and present, is proudly appreciated everyday.
  2. I'm sorry that happened to you, but I truly hope that somehow your order was overlooked by mistake. Maybe the seller will show up somewhere and you can speak with her.
  3. Not sure about Bumble Bee, but Flour Child is still open, only Wed-Sat. I just looked on BB's Facebook and it is still up and last post I saw was May 16, so I guess they are still open.
  4. Karma is a bitch and from the looks of this thread, not many will attend your pity party, Gone.
  5. Oh, I know you didn't write it, it was from the Dallas Hiram Patch. I wonder why a reporter would write something untrue like that and try to get away with it. Just report the truth and get the information out there for the public to view and voice their thoughts. Yes, it is true that dumpsters are impossible to police, my husband is a pipe fitter and he's seen people dump all sorts of stuff in the bins.
  6. Thank you. The request states that no hazardous material or household trash will be accepted. Why does the original link above say that hazardous waste will be dumped at this site?
  7. Where can I read the request? I've looked online, but can't find anything.
  8. If he gets what he wants, I wonder if he pans to set up a crusher to resell all of the concrete and asphalt he plans to bring in? Those things are loud and definitely NOT what needs to in or around a school or homes.
  9. I'm going to share this on my FB. Wow, I can't believe this guy is trying to do this so close to homes, school and other businesses. He and his company will never see a dime of my money if I ever need a service his company offers.
  10. It seems that we did catch it early since the antibiotics are working so well, he's also taking two steroids. Miss Sophie, his symptoms were lots of sleeping, heavy and rapid breathing and he was laying in the floor barely able to move while soft meowing. The meds have worked so well that when we went back to the vet for another CBC, he ended up staying in the hospital for the day due to a very high fever, over 106. He was placed on ice packs and given subcutaneous fluids. The fever was caused by the massive number of dead parasites and RBC's in his system. His body was working overtime to ri
  11. I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. I hope that you find comfort in the memories you shared together.
  12. Thank you all again. He is feeling better tonight.
  13. Y'all are welcome. This particular parasite is one that the vet has not seen in quite some time, so that is another reason I wanted to share this information with everyone. If I understood him correctly, even some of his techs had not seen it and wanted to view it under the microscope. It isn't rare, but I suppose it isn't incredibly common either. I have to wonder if, perhaps, the weather we've had the last couple years has anything to do with the occurrence. RM, you are right, immune issues are nothing to toy around with. Thank you for the well wishes for Oliver. Here is a pic of m
  14. Mods, I hope you all will leave this in the cafe' for a little while at least, as this is sort of a PSA. This week my cat was rushed to the vet for what turned out to be a parasite that attacked his immune system and his circulatory system. It's called Hameobartonellosis felis or Hemobart for short. Oliver became very sick rather quickly and a CBC indicated that his red blood cell count was at 11% when normal is 30-50%. Hemobart attacks and destroys the RBC's and he was fairly close to death's door. He also spent most of today in the animal hospital on subcutaneous fluids and ice packs, two
  15. The family was on "Today" show this morning for an interview. The report stated that the dog was voluntarily quarantined and will most likely be put down. They said it was a Lab/Chow mix. As far as the mom leaving her son after checking on him, she said she was trying to fend off the dog. Presumably, the dog ran around the front of the vehicle and mom had to run him off to prevent another attack. That is one very brave cat, way to go Tara the kitty!!
  16. You can't go wrong with a Nathan's dog or a Sabrett. Hebrew National is pretty good too, except they only come seven to a pack, then there's a leftover bun.
  17. Tru-Green was going around my S/D a few weeks ago. That guy was legit.
  18. Krispy Kreme is going up in Douglasville near the new Academy Sports, but not in Hiram. I stay away from the tunnels, I have a tendency to get lost...and that's NOT a good thing. BTW, here is a link to the map of that shopping center. http://properties.theshoppingcentergroup.com/property/output/center/detail/id:2309/#plans
  19. My DS took A&P 1 and 2 at Chat and he used my old books from GA Highlands from 2006-2007. They were fine and the material is not changed that much. If you can find an older edition like that, you will be fine and save a ton of money. It seems like mine had a speed skater on the cover, I can't remember the edition. The profs give so many notes that the book is really just a compliment.
  20. Check out this website of Georgia native azaleas. They are gorgeous and they grow in the woods. http://www.earlsommerville.com/ I can't get it to say "my link". If someone can help or a mod change it, please do. Thanks.
  21. I was told to seal once a year, but I have only done a complete redo once in five years. When I spot scrub areas, I usually put down a coat of sealer, especially if I have used the sturdy grout brush. I don't know if it really needs redoing, but after spending time in the floor on my knees or sitting, I just go ahead and add some sealer. I don't do it every week, only as it needs it. I mop every week and swiffer in between to keep the floors clean, I have two dogs, a cat, two kids (23 &14) and a husband...they can be messy. Oh and I vacuum every day, I love to vacuum. I'm weird I know.
  22. My whole house is tiled, all but two bedrooms. After DH laid the tile, I waited a couple of days and used the brush on sealer in the little bottle. It worked great. We have light grout in our kitchen, bath and laundry room, actually it's the Haystack color from Home Depot. It has darkened some, but I use that spray on foam from Woolite to clean it and it works well, just seal it after cleaning the whole area or spot seal the small areas. I keep a bottle of sealer in my laundry room for easy access. The Woollite carpet foam, I spray it on and leave it for about 30 minutes and go back and scrub
