  1. There's no doubt that it will be a hassle for some. If you committed your child -- or even more, if you committed YOURSELF -- to some kind of work obligation based on the schedule that we've had all year... and you finally got all the moving parts to fit together with bus routes, etc... well, a quarter of an hour can actually make some things impossible when the margin for error has been less than that all year. Anyway - best of luck to everyone as we figure out how to adapt...
  2. My two cents - you're all correct. Yes, the kid is at fault for the original offense, and no, that's no excuse for laziness or sloppy performance by people handling the paperwork. That was easy. Give us a hard one.
  3. I wouldn't say the school system is stupid. I know it's frustrating when the solution doesn't work as smoothly for everyone as we'd like. But as I said -- there's no perfect solution here. The buses can't be everywhere at once... they do have to follow routes. Why does the route go in this direction and not that one? Well, if it changed, the people on that end of the route would be just as upset. Personally, I would rather have seen us eliminate some of the many days off between now and the end of the year, but my heavens... I can only imagine the holy heck that would erupt on pcom if
  4. This will complicate some already tight afterschool transportation issues on certain days. Sigh. But there is no perfect solution.
  5. Congratulations to this unnamed Arab ambassador to the UK, who has almost certainly succeeded in writing himself into an episode of Family Guy or South Park.
  6. DR, I really hope you're staying warm and your power stays on, etc. I have been worried about my friends in the DC area and you are on that list even if you don't like it. Prayers for safety...

  8. I have invited nearly every person who has ever been ugly to me on pcom to meet me for coffee, my treat. Likewise, I have done the same for almost all the folks who I have been snarky with. I've never had anyone take me up on my generous offer and extended hand. Some people would rather just be mad, I guess.
  9. First, I'm really excited to see a local theater company coming together. I have been acting in and directing musicals since forever and would love to do it in my own backyard! Second - I have some items and will be bringing them by!
  10. 1. Thanks! 2. I wish the reply function would interpret HTML. 3. I'm planning to be at the meeting in the morning.
  11. Funny... but isn't it odd that the same cars are parked in the same spots and the reflections on the glass are the same throughout all the weeks of the argument. I saw something about this on one of the urban myth web sites. I think many of the later signs are real, though. I love witty church signs... membership has its privileges, indeed!
  12. Thank God. The last thing we need is our kids missing any more school.
  13. Even if you disagree with my view on the "few" scandalous emails in question, you have chosen to ignore the larger point about Robertson and Glover which is true regardless. The distinctions are still valid even if you disagree with that minor bit of commentary. I thought you had a more open mind than that. Guess you've... etc. JMT
  14. I'm with CoCo. If Leno and NBC didn't want to go through with the deal, they should have thought of that during the five freakin' years they've been planning and announcing it. It is another horrible blemish on the Tonight Show involving Jay Leno, who I find entertaining and hate to see in such a slimy deal.
  15. Bill Clinton links Haiti to the Massachusetts Senate race. Then Clinton turned to his decision to come to Boston. "Somebody asked me today, 'Well, why are you going to this political rally?'" he began. And I said to them, this is just two sides of the same coin. You have to bear with me. I have friends killed there. I've worked with this country for 35 years. Hillary and I had a good cry on the phone because the cathedral that we sat in the pews 35 years ago was totally destroyed. But it reminds you all over again of the importance of good governance. Now, good governance would
  16. I don't know you but your message is so sincere that it resonates. I don't have anything really wise to say -- you know it all, already. All I can say is that I wish I could give you a big hug and pat on the back right now... because that is what your loved ones would give you tonight if they could. Find a close friend whose faith you admire, and spend time with him or her discussing this.
  17. Kimmel gave Leno what for during 10@10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axwO6BkCtIo
  18. I'm just glad I'm not the only one who gets ticked off at how oblivious and inconsiderate these people are.
  19. Saw this on The Tonight Show last night! Hilarious! Conan is getting the shaft. Whether you like his style or not, this is NOT right. I'm with CoCo!
  20. Speaking just for myself, I have a rich and multi-faceted life outside of Pcom and it is frequently filled with charitable endeavors -- both donating and volunteering. I find it shortsighted and a false dichotomy to presume that because conversation continues on pcom, the participants are automatically unaware, uncaring, or inattentive to other events and needs. Does anyone here seriously dare to presume that because someone talks about A here, that means they don't care about B or haven't contributed to C elsewhere? (I'll leave aside for now the irony in seeing an online topic raised to
  21. My observation on both the Robertson statement and the Glover statement can be found here. I point out the inanities of both and make some comments about the similarities and distinctions between the two situations. That is all.
