  1. At today's West Cobb Business Association luncheon, the issue of political figures participatinon social networking sites was briefly mentioned... the effective use of these kinds of forums is a valuable skill. (Of course the top dogs have staff to maintain their profiles for them as a PR function.) Just to put a spin on the question... what would you think of a politician who participated here regularly after being elected? Shouldn't they have something more pressing to attend to? (Plus, in some cases it may be illegal, according to the speaker at the luncheon.) Do you think it wou
  2. Jesus was a great leader. He gave us two commandments and a mission to apply them to. I think the responsibility of a Christian is to get busy on the assignment. Love God. Love Others. Tell Everyone. That is all.
  3. This affected my heart today. It deserves to be shared.
  4. It is really unfortunate that this scandalous event from ten years ago has taken over the whole consideration of the question. I believe in redemption, but I also have to think this whole thing could probably have been headed off by a more honest, open approach up front. I think most people, if they knew a person made a horrible mistake a decade ago but did everything right to overcome it and has lived a totally different life ever since, would be pretty understanding. They might not vote for the guy, but it would probably be on policy differences and not an old, atoned-for mistake.
  5. Thanks for all the ideas! I need to address something... I am not in a position to go searching for people myself. I wish I could go explore Facebook and other people's web sites to gather information myself, but I just can't fit that into my schedule. I posted this thread as an encouragement to those interested to contact me and send the information I asked for above. I will share the information I am sent with the producers. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to personally go searching for people and asking them if they want to do this, searching for and assembling their informa
  6. Picture three scantily clad women bumping and grinding while clinging onto Lech Walesa. On second thought, don't do that.
  7. I have tried joking in there. It rarely plays well. Imagine that.
  8. Okay, the first meeting has happened but they are still looking for more acts. The guy I recommended from Chattanooga WOWED them and looks like he'll be on the show that's taping March 6. There are other opportunities. NOTE: All performers must be 18 or older. If you have a recommendation -- send me a description of the act, photos if possible, and links to online video if possible. Email to: talent@turnermagic.com Thanks!
  9. That's too bad -- it's going to be a great networking opportunity and a valuable program. Hope the rest of you can make it!
  10. Speaking only for myself, and not as a criticism of others, I personally do not see how overcoming a horrible mistake in your past somehow disallows you from recognizing such behavior in the future as the destructive choice that it is, or from openly saying so... especially if your life is now a testament to the positive results of overcoming such mistakes. At the same time, I think that the "saying so" can be done in good ways and bad ways - speaking the truth in love, as it were. But if "A is A" is a true statement, then the fact that "A is A" is not dependent on the past behavior or ev
  11. If you're joining me this morning, COME EARLY. They are taking free photos that you can use in your LinkedIn and online networking... starting at 10:45am. See you there!
  12. Last call! Meet me at Lost Mountain Baptist Church at 11:15am tomorrow -- it'll be a great meeting. JMT
  13. Gosh, I never thought about the breakdown. Probably 70% Paulding, 25% Cobb, 5% Bartow et al.
  14. Excluding dorm rooms, apartments, and summer quarters during college - all of which I paid for, but still considered my parents' house as "home" at the time - my first place was an apartment in a Post development on the northeast side of Atlanta. It has since changed owners and names, but it was across the street from the Mercer campus on Flowers Road South. 1BR, mostly furnished with the stuff I brought from my college apartment. My first rent for the place was $570 a month. By the time I left a couple of years later it had almost doubled. I remember the day I moved to Atlanta and int
  15. > Leadership and what goes on in a marriage are two different things. I respectfully disagree that the two are completely mutually exclusive. I think the question of commitment is a common thread in both. I also think it's certainly no more morally high and mighty of me to consider that point of view reasonable than it is morally high and mighty of you to tell me it's most certainly not. P.S. You said "bullcheeze." You are adorable. Nighty night.
  16. I agree to a point, actually. But we're not talking about what a person does in his marriage -- we're talking about what he did/does outside his marriage. And once you show the poor judgment to open yourself up to disease, blackmail, etc. -- well, if abuse of power is wrong, then it seems like poor judgment to put yourself in a position where you could be blackmailed to abuse your office, even if the moral components of the question don't matter to you. A leader compromised by a personal secret he must keep to avoid being embarrassed or disgraced... that's a dangerous vulnerability. I d
  17. You're using Gary Hart as an example? That was an ugly episode, but it's difficult to humor any suggestion that The Miami Herald was some bastion of conservative conspiracy. I think it's even odds that the take-down of Hart was done by democrat party insiders who wanted Hart out of the way of their own candidate's future. You'll have to take your grievances up with the Herald, I guess. I think we'd agree that any candidate who, either while campaigning for an office or after election to office, chooses to engage in behaviors that reflect negatively on his/her character and judgment -- i
  18. That's an interesting question. Can you think of a similar example? All the democrat scandals seem to come after there's public trust to betray, not just private. All I can tell you is this -- I have stuck up for many a liberal friend who made a mistake and tried to make amends and showed sincere repentance. You'd probably be surprised at the number of left-leaning friends who disagree vehemently with my politics but who know and trust me as a human being. And vice versa, I might add. Have a good evening!
  19. No, actually -- but I love how you can't resist the opportunity to eventually make everything you post about me. I need not be self-admiring with you around! Do you have any further thoughts on the actual topic or not? It seems to pain you that many of us seem to have reached similar conclusions to yours -- minus the ad hominem lashing out, of course.
  20. Sorry - your energetic reentry into the topic made me think you might have had another relevant or pertinent idea to contribute, other than just slamming other people. Even that first post seemed focused as much on slamming conservatives as even bothering to consider the topic that was presented. My mistake - sorry! On with your flame war.
  21. As long as you're posting in this topic, what do you think about the allegations, how they surfaced, and whether/how they relate to the race itself rather than to the people you dislike on pcom? Do you find yourself mostly in agreement with the analysis of the situation expressed here, or not? Just out of curiosity. Cheers!
  22. I've been taught by the moderating staff here to be oblique. Any other ad hominems you'd like to toss out, instead of actually commenting on the topic that we seem to agree on?
  23. One presumes from the lack of argument on the actual topic that JH/female must agree with the conclusions most of us have reached about the inappropriate nature of this sordid smearing, and rather than celebrate the common ground many of us seem to have found for a change, she's decided to pitch some ad hominem fits. Ah well. Ob la dee, ob la dah, life goes on.
