  1. To be frank, this particular award doesn't have the history or the cache' of the award I won in 2000. It is unfortunate that the names are so similar. But it is always nice to be recognized for your work! This is awarded by a group of performers whose work I respect and so their "stamp of approval" is definitely gratifying. Maybe the stars will align and I'll post a second win of the other trophy, too!
  2. I can just see the Globetrotters shooting hoops into bushel baskets...
  3. I had decided to pay cash for a used vehicle, so I knew I wasn't going to be able to afford a Limited or any premium edition. After some encouragement from Mrs. JMT and her dad, I did decide to change from looking for another sedan to searching for an SUV to help with the load/unload of equipment for my various performances -- I'm tired of bending over my trunk! My father-in-law has been visiting and he and I did a lot of research and driving all over the metro area to look at vehicles. I did my homework and discussed it a lot with him. You know the 4 C's of buying a diamond? I have
  4. If you get more, I'd like to talk with you. I worked really hard last year and even in the midst of a recession, I was within sight of being debt free. I had to buy a car on 12/31 as a result of an accident where I was not at fault, but I paid cash and got a great deal. That does mean that my reserves are depleted right now, though, so I will probably not be debt free until about a year from now. I could use some coaching, and I'm interested in this book. Thanks.
  5. Hyundai Santa Fe model year: 2005 Mileage: 35000 Paying cash for it: Priceless.
  6. The at-fault driver's insurance spoke to both parties. Unbelievably, they are attributing a small percentage of the blame for the accident to me because I said that immediately prior to the accident, I glanced at the car in the other lane that had just made another illegal turn in front of me. (Several cars were making illegal u-turns at this moment to avoid some kind of disruption behind me.) At any rate, you apparently are not allowed to glance at your speedometer or at other cars in the lanes around you or else you will be accused of some kind of negligence. The police report clearly sh
  7. Ours will be up until sometime during the first week of January.
  8. Repairs are going to be $3000 plus. There are a lot of components in the front left corner of the car, plus who knows what interior damage. Best estimate, using all used replacement parts, is still $2900+. That is more than I could ever get out of the car in a sale, I suspect. The vehicle's condition is evaluated component-by-component. Tires are new - excellent. Most of the car is in good or very good condition. There are a couple of components (carpet, dash) in fair condition. USAA will give me as good or better value for the car than anyone else, I suspect. I am going to go l
  9. I have USAA and am confident that as far as 'insurance paying on a total loss' goes, I'll come out with the best possible outcome. Sigh. This is not an expense I wanted to take on right now. I am so close to being debt free that I can taste it!
  10. As I was heading to a show on December 12, a lady made a sudden, illegal u-turn into my lane. There was nowhere for me to swerve to avoid the collision. My front left headlight area was crunched pretty good but the light still worked and I was, of course, found to be the "not at fault" driver in the incident. Nevertheless, my car has been declared a total loss thanks to this lady's numbskullery. I've got 260K miles on my beloved Toyota Avalon and it appears I will not get the pleasure of going over 300K. Happy New Year -- I have to go shop for a dang vehicle. Sigh. JMT
  11. My in-laws arrived this afternoon and so we have started round 2 of Christmas. Tonight Mrs. JMT served her famous ham/broccoli roll-ups, Texas potatoes, green beans and rolls. (This is also the menu from the first meal she ever made for me, by the way.) I enjoyed a delicious piece of her chocolate pecan pie for dessert. Tomorrow is Christmas morning part deux. Off to bed!
  12. Mrs. JMT has made up a big pot of ham and beans... just fantastic! I had a bowl for lunch!
  13. Careful... a couple of lines in these are perhaps PG-13... but just hilarious!
  14. I was told by a source that papers in FL are now reporting that he will only take a leave of absence and NOT retire. Interim coach will be Steve Adazzio. Looking for confirmation... ETA: Here's the story. http://www.tsn.ca/ncaa/story/?id=303711
  15. I love collards but my wife doesn't care for greens, so it's rare. My daughter also likes them. My mom brought some that she had frozen so JMT-ette and I can enjoy them. We have been enjoying chips and blackeyed pea dip since Christmas Eve!
  16. Blessings to you, BB! Congratulations!
  17. No joke, King Tux is the place to go. On my recent 3-day appearance in Las Vegas, I decided to rent from King Tux so I'd have something a little bolder than usual for the big party at the Wynn. They set me up with a GREAT look and I got tons of compliments. I will post photos when I get clearance from the client. Tom, you are the best. Thanks for helping me impress my clients!
  18. Dear God, please keep them away from Dan Mullen.
  19. Usually sometime just after New Year's, probably before Epiphany although I like the idea of leaving it up until the 6th. We still have another round of visitors and gift giving starting tomorrow, so it's not coming down tonight!
  20. Thanks for the shout-outs. Hopefully the Mayberry distributors are watching this unsolicited bevy of kudos!
  21. I enjoyed a big piece of chocolate pecan pie after dinner tonight. It may be the best one she ever made! I'll pass all your compliments along... I know she'll be gratified that you are enjoying the pies. Merry Christmas!
  22. I am grateful that some businesses choose to be open - often staffed by people of other faiths who generously trade shifts with Christians who wish to be off for that day. I'm already going to have to find a clinic for my son tomorrow - surprise ear infection (as noted by NC-17). There are hills on which to die. This isn't one, in my view.
  23. Christmas blessings to you and yours, MCMM! And a Merry Christmas also to all of pcom. JMT
