  1. Really? You think it would be about North Korean communists?
  2. I want to hire you to cover our front yard while my wife is gone and surprise her when she gets home. Small front yard -- maybe 2000 sq feet? Whaddya think?
  3. Does it actually crystallize into little snowflakes? I'm curious what it looks like close up!
  4. A man and woman had been married for more than 60 years. They had shared everything. They had talked about everything. They had kept no secrets from each other except that the little old woman had a shoe box in the top of her closet that she had cautioned her husband never to open or ask her about. For all of these years, he had never thought about the box, but one day the little old woman got very sick and the doctor said she would not recover. In trying to sort out their affairs, the little old man took down the shoe box and took it to his wife's bedside. She agreed that
  5. I have to agree. My personal preference would be for a different approach to the school calendar. I'm not a big fan of these early August starts and all the weeks off. That said, I am reticent to suggest that such a preference should be written into law. I think it is a risky move to put a law in place that makes it impossible to accommodate circumstances that might make an early-start calendar the very best solution... except that it would be illegal. What circumstances are those? I don't know, but stuff happens. And the same stuff doesn't happen in Savannah that happens in Dallas th
  6. The real joke here is that the ad is thanking Swedish citizens for paying a government tax/fee for owning a television -- about $300 per year per household. If you know me, then the idea of me starring in such a film is hilarious.
  7. Ouch! That kind of hurt! At least the Swedes love me.
  8. It should start after the 2nd countdown completes. I don't know why it does it twice but sometimes it does. If the embedded version doesn't work, try the direct link.
  9. There's more to it than the countdown. If your connection is slow, there does seem to be a reduced-bandwidth version available. Didn't mean to irritate anyone... it's just a fun thing. Sorry if anyone is ticked off by waiting.
  10. There is a link for a less computer-intensive version... try that if you get stuck on the countdown.
  11. If your company instituted a policy where employees were eligible to be considered for a pay raise every month, but employees were only eligible to be considered for a pay cut once a year... would you say they were being unfair, or generous?
  12. Self-grandiose? Takes one to know one, I think. I know a lot of people weren't there, and believe it or not - there are some people who are interested in my insights and opinions on a variety of topics. This race is one of them. You are not one of those interested. That's fine with both of us. Put me on ignore. Cheers.
  13. After last night's debate, I am really torn. Speaking as a voter, I saw positives and negatives in all three candidates. I do suspect a runoff and I am not yet completely enthusiastic about any of the candidates. Next week I am going to explain exactly what I thought about two tactics that were used in the debate and how they turned me off from the candidates who were using them.
  14. Thank you to Pat, NewsJunky, and LPPT for the kind comments. I trekked out to S&S with laptop in hand to do a live-blog from the event. When I walked in, Pat asked me to moderate as the originally scheduled moderator was unavailable. I agreed to jump in and help so the event could go forward as planned. Pat handed me the questions and it was off to the races. I am glad it worked out. JMT
  15. I'm planning to give it a try but I'd love to get some confirmation that they are proceeding.
  16. Interesting that the ladies are measuring it as less than the men...
  17. Oh yes, I drank hose water in the summer time and ate snow in the winter. Hint -- put out some cookie sheets or something and you can catch more than just putting out a bowl. When I was a kid we'd put a clean sheet somewhere out back to catch a lot so we could scoop it up and not touch the grass or the concrete.
