I respectfully disagree.

PT is totally not invited. You should call Jughaid (female version).

> Do you think BO would be trying to "shove it down our throats" if Congress actually appeared that they were trying to figure it out?? Well, actually I do. The Republicans presented an alternative plan that was essentially ignored by both the other party and the media. That information vacuum made it look like all the opposition was doing was sitting there saying no, when in fact they were working to present ideas which were uniformly excluded from the debate. So I have to say yes... the reason this is being "shoved down our throats" (and may yet be shoved up our otherwises in an UN

I think I have a reputation (both deserved and undeserved) for being less agreeable than I actually am. Cheers!

EJ78 - I appreciate your response. Thanks. I think "accomplishing nothing" is just a semantic change; therefore, I contend that a move by members of both parties to reject a bad course of action is neither "doing nothing" nor "accomplishing nothing." I disagree that the nation is just agreeing with their preferred parties -- the poll numbers indicate that opposition to Obamacare is greater than anything a single party could lay claim to. Plus... the opposition is more bipartisan than the support for that bill. It's difficult to attribute that to the idea that the parties are just pulli

I do believe the Senate was designed to move slowly. As for the lawfully elected majority - both houses of Congress have the ability to set their rules. In the recent case, the majority party of the Senate had the votes to do anything they wished to do without fear of the filibuster and still failed to act on some things. Blaming that on the other 40 senators rings hollow to me. I support the existence of the filibuster, but I'd personally like to see the rules revamped to their previous form, forcing the senators to be physically present in order to use the tactic. I don't much like v

Allegations Surface Against District 19 Candidate
joemturner replied to lotstodo's topic in Paulding County NEWS
I agree with PT and NC-17. I had already reached my conclusion about this race before I ever heard about this sordid nonsense. If anything, I think this nasty episode calls into question the character and judgment of the folks who would raise and sling this stuff around as much as it attempts to besmirch the character of the person involved. Sigh... ETA - That's not a dig at anyone on pcom. I have a problem with the original anonymous tipster who decided to dredge this up, and especially any other candidate's campaign who might have encouraged it. -
I think it's important to realize that the filibuster ultimately exists because the Senate was designed to move slowly - almost excruciatingly so. Thank heaven.

What?!?! Did it only snow at MY house this morning?

Awesome! I'm going to have to skip it this year -- we are swamped getting ready for our mission trip to Hungary -- leaving next Friday! Put up some photos! -
I respectfully suggest that your statement implies an assumption that there is an intersection between those two sets. There are some mutually exclusive criteria and ideas in play in both of those questions: "what they can agree on" and "what will work." It is easy to sit out and look and call for compromise in terms of scale, etc. but that usually assumes that they are arguing about "how far" to go. (That is what the President is doing.) There are a lot of people (on both sides) who aren't ready to talk about "how far" until they settle the question of "which way?" That's an important

Re: Obamacare We have bipartisan agreement that the proposal so far is the wrong idea. If the choice is between doing 1) nothing and doing 2) something horrible, the right move to make is option 1. Rejection of a dangerously bad proposal is not "doing nothing." That is all.

Early Preference Poll for District 19 Representative race
joemturner replied to gpatt0n's topic in Paulding County NEWS
I know. The problem is, if I had been on the ticket I might have won -- and that's not in the best interest of my family at the moment. I understand your decision and respect the way you made it! No problem at all. -
Early Preference Poll for District 19 Representative race
joemturner replied to gpatt0n's topic in Paulding County NEWS
To follow-up on my previous post -- I think all three men, in political terms, would represent the general principles and point of view of the district to some extent. From a policy perspective, there ultimately didn't appear to be a dime's worth of difference between them. This leaves the voter to make determinations on other criteria. 1. Jody Cash seems tremendously honest, eager, and principled. He unfortunately strikes me as being somewhat under-equipped to make a strong case for the district or even for his own point of view when push comes to shove. I think he believes in hi -
Paisano's on Cedarcrest just north of Cedar Mill subdivision and just south of Shelton Elementary. It's on the west side of the street in a small shopping center.

With regard to federal healthcare management, this presumes that we should all be discussing "How far?" and reaching a deal. The thing is, some of us are still discussing "Which way?" -- and that's a completely different question, and when the two visions/paths are so totally divergent, it is practically impossible to suggest a "middle way" that both sides could agree on. Anyway - I have to eat and go to work. Y'all have a good evening...

Yes, things have been attached to other bills by both parties. I'm personally not offended by the occasional reconciliation or recess appointment. Elections have consequences. The scale of this move, however, is unprecedented by anything previously attempted by either Democrats or Republicans, ever. It is like attaching something larger than the New Deal to the back of another bill and slipping it through when you know it wouldn't stand a chance otherwise. Furthermore, the reason they are doing this is certainly not because Republicans are obstructing it. It is because the democrat

Business networking opportunity... reduced price

Thank you, Jill's Magical Travel, for joining me next Tuesday! Offer remains open to others! Let me know if you'd like to go... I'm happy to bring multiple guests. -
The West Cobb Business Association has their monthly luncheon next Tuesday, 2/23, at Lost Mountain Baptist Church. Cost for the lunch is usually $15 for members and $20 for non-members. However, if a member brings a non-members, the price is $20 for the pair -- meaning we can enjoy lunch, great networking, and the after-lunch program for only $10 apiece! I'm a member and if you're not -- come with me and check it out! This month's speaker is Jim Browning, a social networking guru with a wealth of knowledge about LinkedIn and how to use it effectively. If you're interested, let me

Browsers -- I use Firefox (90%) and Chrome (10%). (Note: If using Firefox, this add-on is a miracle. Among other things, I use it to keep obnoxious items (graphics, youtubes, etc.) in some people's signatures from ever appearing on my screen again... without having to turn off signatures altogether.) For search, I generally use Google and Bing. I suggest checking into igoogle.com as a customized Google portal. Bing has great map functions... and they seem more up-to-date and accurate than Google. Hope this helps.

Sounds like the Exelon writer of the ad may have a little touch of arrogance, too.

We went to Macy's last week to get Mrs. JMT a nice dress for a gala at the Strand Theater on Saturday. They had some nice stuff and it wasn't as pricey as I had feared.

A friend posted it on her FB last night. Her husband forgot to activate their MSA debit card so she was stuck trying to buy her prescriptions... then it turned out he had put her car battery in wrong and it had discharged and she was stranded. Couldn't get him on the phone... finally got a girlfriend to come buy with jumper cables... She was none too happy with her hubby last night!
