  1. Some libraries take them; also Value Village thrift stores. The library told me to remove my name and address. The library gives them away free.
  2. Walter Reeves describes an easy way to make an ant moat. See the link for a photo: Edited to add: For some reason the photo isn't showing up at the link like it did when I read the article. Make an ant moat for hummingbird feeder Published on: 07/28/06 Q: I have trouble with ants in my hummingbird feeders, which hang from my back porch eaves. Do you have any ideas on how to solve my problem? Tom Dee, e-mail An ant moat for a hummingbird feeder is easy to make from the top of a spray-paint can. 3. Thanks for sharing. I started an email group for Georgia Crafters with the idea of sharing ideas, and possibly having some local get togethers: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GeorgiaCrafters I'd like to hear about the kinds of crafts you both like.
  4. Your link shows 838 were adopted. It's sad that according to the Humane Society: "Four million cats and dogs—about one every eight seconds—are put down in U.S. shelters each year." I noticed that 1430 of the 3630 were "other companion animals" like birds, lizards, rabbits, etc. so the problem extends to those, too.
  5. I thought this article contained some helpful insight: Hospice Straight Talk: Myths Meet Reality Posted: 7/28/11 05:04 PM ET Never before have I seen so much discussion about health care in this country. That's a good thing. It can empower Americans to make more informed health care decisions for themselves and their loved ones, from the beginning to the end of life. As we seek to better understand options at all stages of life, it seems a good time to address some lingering myths and misunderstandings about hospice and palliative care. 6. I've seen that listed as an ingredient in some room foggers. Have you ever used those? Here's a description of one: Adams Flea & Tick Room Fogger Plus with Precor .Ready-to-use, water-based automatic room fogger. Adams Flea & Tick Room Fogger Plus with Precor contains adulticides to kill adult and pre-adult fleas. Sykillstop, an IGR, kills larval fleas and flea eggs for 210 days. One can treats up to 6,000 cu.ft.
  7. I've used Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade for fleas on two of my large dogs with great results. Have any of you used it as a health supplement? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQn6GSHNzBE
  8. What is the product that works so well? My Mom is having problems with fleas this year.
  9. It looks a lot like a close-up of dumbestgirlintheworld's avatar.
  10. I was at the Douglasville store at about 2:00pm. It was pretty crowded, and the lines at the checkouts were long---maybe 15 or more customers in a line. It was hot (I saw more than one woman fanning herself.) I didn't buy anything. I have a couple of gift cards that I may end up using online since the selection is better. The majority of items are only 10% off---a few are more. I noticed animal and pet books are 30% off. Magazines are 40% off.
  11. Now the Borders' website says all stores are going out of business. It says everything is now up to 40% off org. price. Does anyone know how much the magazines are discounted now? Other items? (After I posted this in the Borders thread from several months ago I realized it would probably be best to start a new one.) Edited to add: I see the threads have been combined into this one now.

Edited to add: After I posted here I realized it would probably be better to start a new thread since this one is several months old. So I did.
  13. Pubby, I didn't see anything at .net/. Is it www.justiceharvard.org/?
  14. I went to the location in Douglasville yesterday (across from Hobby Lobby on Chapel Hill Road) hoping to find some good deals but didn't buy anything. What I saw was maybe 5-10% less than other stores. One pound boxes of strawberries were $1.89 vs. $1.99 eleswhere, a 2 lb. bag of vidalia onions was $1.49. Their bags of potatoes felt less firm. Last year when they first opened they did have some produce that was probably half of other store's prices. I don't go that often, but I haven't seen those kinds of savings since then. You can see their ad online. Click to the left under categories o
  15. The first part of your post seems to contracdict what the last part says. You seem to be saying that your parents taught you right from wrong but nowadays no parent should expect their child not to be "party'n/having sex/staying out all hours of the night."
  16. The goal of the article, the task force and this thread is to make improvements in a serious problem.
  17. The article says the Mom was the most scared she had ever been in her life. The 18 year old girl is not someone either of us knows personally. I really don't understand why you have SO much animosity towards her. The articles states that kids make mistakes. The girl made one. I hope she learns from it and goes on to make better choices in the future ...
  18. I'm not sure why you said that as Dr. Crews was one of the other doctors who was quoted in the article.
  19. The message of the article was that being informed could improve; even save, lives. The above was a comment left on the Parade website in reference to the article.
  20. The article was designed to benefit families. The last part of the article was a side-bar: What Parents Can Do. The last part said:
  21. It seems you're confused. I've never seen an issue of Parade that was only 4 pages. And I have no idea where you come up with your reference to "fear mongering." Another recent cover story was "What I learned from My Dad." Did you see the most recent issue with a book wearing sunglasses on the cover? The story was "SUMMER READING," OUR ROUNDUP OF THE SEASON'S BEST BOOKS" Go Blue, I recognize that they did use all caps in that instance, but it doesn't sound like a very scary subject to me.
  22. There are teens now with blood alcohol levels that used to be seen only in chronic alcoholics until 10 years ago. The dangers of combining high levels of alcohol with high levels of caffeine (like energy drinks) is also covered in the article. Red Bull first became available in the US in 1997. I don't know when it first started being mixed with alcohol like students are doing now. Also, I see no real basis for your degrading remarks about the Parade publication. It's done well in spite of what you think: A HISTORY OF PARADE PARADE Magazine, the most widely read magazine in Ame
  23. As I stated earlier the subtitle of the article was "An alarming new trend every parent needs to know about." Many parents are looking for information on issues that may affect their families. Parents are entrusted with guiding their children. The task force is one group working for improvements, but there are other groups and individuals who want to see changes made.
  24. Lots To Do, there are major differences betweeen a publication written for the general public (like Parade) and a scientific journal. Many parents and others want to know about new developments that are contributing to serious problems today---while other more scientific types might prefer to wait for many years and many studies.
