Adult, her mother had never heard of Jungle Juice. The girl had only been at college for 2 weeks. She had never been in trouble before. It's possible she wasn't familiar with the types of high alcohol fruity drinks that were being served. -

The girl was 18 years old. She was an honor student and an athlete. I doubt she was as knowledgable about alcohol as many adults are, including you, adult. After certain programs have begun on select college campuses there has been some reduction in the behaviors that are linked to injuries like the girl experienced. -

For those who are interested there are individuals and groups working to make improvements, including the Task Force on College Drinking which was formed in 1998: Creation of the Task Force on College Drinking In response to the increasingly complex issue of alcohol abuse among college students, the National Advisory Council on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism created the Task Force on College Drinking in 1998. Prior NIAAA Activities on College Drinking NIAAA has maintained a small portfolio of grants on this issue for many years; however, this Task Force represents an effort to a -

Pubby, the Parade article states that there are those who are concerned about the fruit flavored high alcohol drinks. The amount of alcohol in one can is a lot (up to 4 or 5 cans of beer), and they don't cost much. One company announced they are lower their product's alcohol content. I'm not sure if a ban is what some are wanting or not. There are references to the dangers of large amounts of alcohol in any form and also to large amounts of caffeine consumed with alcohol. I stated that some companies had changed their formulas to eliminate caffeine because of pressure from the FDA. I think -

Surepip, the quote above is from the first post I started the thread with. The article describes the experiences of an 18 year old girl and her parents. Her Mom said: "I’ve never been that scared—she could barely speak.” The pain this family experienced is real. -

The article was not about polling random people on the street for their opinions. It said: Dr. O'Brien is a recognized authority. I don't know why you insist that people discount what she says are her professional observations based on experience. Maybe that is your nature. (I see you put a line through what I originally said in the what you quoted.) -

No one believes that problems associated with underage drinking are new. However, there are some people that continue to work in hopes of finding ways to make improvements in this and other issues. The fact that there are teens now with blood alcohol levels that used to be seen only in chronic alcoholics ten years ago is just one element that concerns many. -

I believe the articles are designed to inform parents and society in general of a serious problem. I believe there are people with a genuine concern who are doing studies and reporting on them. -

Underage drinking is a problem in other countries, too. Here's what studies show about underage drinking with supervision from parents: Letting teen drink under parent's watch backfires Those who drank with supervision more prone to problems than those told to wait, study says By Linda Carroll msnbc.com contributor msnbc.com contributor updated 4/29/2011 8:37:51 AM ET 2011-04-29T12:37:51 As prom night approaches and parents begin to worry about what might happen during after hour parties, some might be tempted to try to teach their high schoolers to drink respon -

The article mentioned some things that are new. There are teens now with blood alcohol levels that used to be seen only in chronic alcoholics. Kegs and watered-down beer have long been as much a part of the campus experience as trying to avoid early-morning classes. And it’s not exactly unheard of for teens in high school and even middle school to sneak into their parents’ liquor cabinets. What is new—and increasingly alarming to those confronting the issue—is the rising trend of extreme underage drinking. Such is the concern that the legal drinking age itself has come into question. Some -

This is the beginning of the article. It links to the Parade website: The Underage Drinking Epidemic By Emily Listfield June 12, 2011 Teens are finding new—and more dangerous—ways to binge. Here's what you can do. Linda B.* and her husband were sound asleep when the phone rang at 2 a.m. Their oldest daughter, Rory, 18, had left two weeks earlier for her first year at a college in Connecticut. An honor student and athlete, Rory had never been in trouble. They didn’t think they had any reason to worry. “When I picked up the phone, Rory was crying hysterically; she was compl -
Did anyone read this article? It was the cover story in the June 12, 20011 issue of Parade. The article begins by describing one 18 year old girl's experience: "her face was covered in blood. She had fallen and broken her nose, though she was so intoxicated that she hadn’t realized it." I set it aside and read it today: Jungle juice ... a syrupy mix of hard liquors and fruit juices, it often includes Everclear, whose alcohol content can be as high as 190 proof (a level banned in some states). Some kids throw in energy drinks for good measure. There are dozens of recipes for Jungle Juic

I don't know why you said those things. I posted some things that are in the Bible. I stated that I'm a Christian and that I have prayed about God's will for my life. I've stated that I believe in humane treatment for animals. All of that is true.

Naturegirl, it's in the Bible. Why get angry? No meat was consumed in the Garden of Eden. NO MEAT was eaten until after the great flood. Then there is the manna God chose to feed the Israelites for 40 years, and this about Daniel. Should I go on? It's in the Bible. Daniel 1:11-16 New International Version (NIV) 11 Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, 12 “Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 Then compare our appearance with that of the

The Bible contains many incidents where God chose for people to eat a meat-free diet. Please recognize the truth.

Are you forgetting about the grace of God and the other food groups? Why do you think God chose to feed the Israelites manna?
