  2. Here's a review by Roger Ebert: Forks Over Knives BY ROGER EBERT / May 11, 2011 Here is a film that could save your life. So you'd better stop reading now, because you don't want to go to the trouble. You are addicted to fat, salt, sugar and corn syrup. Your body has established a narcotic-like dependence on them, and you're comfortable with that, just like smokers know why they keep on smoking. If you have to die 10 or 25 years sooner than necessary to smoke, if you need Viagra because your vascular system is compromised, or if you're overweight, you can live with that. He

  8. Here's an article from Consumer Reports: Consumer protection Avoid summertime burglar-alarm scams Jun 26, 2009 11:26 AM One consumer rip-off that shows no sign of abating is the annual invasion of door-to-door salespeople who use dubious and intrusive tactics to sell burglar-alarm systems to unwary homeowners, a topic we covered in "Scam Alert: Don't Get Ripped Off by an Alarm Company." Jane Driggs, president of the Better Business Bureau of Utah, stops short of advising you not to buy an alarm system from door-to-door salespeople, but says, "You just have to make sure that y

  11. When I clicked on the link I got the message: "The Meetup Group you're looking for doesn't exist." I've been checking the website, www.meetup.com/ A lot of groups that are available in other areas don't meet anywhere locally.
  12. Here's a thread I started on the subject earlier this month: http://paulding.com/forum/index.php/topic/268129-has-anyone-found-any-natural-allergy-remedy-that-works/page__p__3426144__hl__allergies__fromsearch__1#entry3426144 Alavert is not natural, but it is over the counter and works the best for me.
  13. That's an interesting idea. I don't know where the best place to buy. Have you grown fruit trees before? I enjoy fresh tree ripened peaches, but we've found them harder to grow than apples because they bloom early and are sometimes affected by late frosts and more pests, etc. I'm not sure about pears. Some fruit trees are more disease resistant than others and many need cross pollination. Here's some info on growing apples in GA that includes a chart on pollination: http://www.caes.uga.edu/applications/publications/files/pdf/C%20740_5.PDF A spin off on the idea would be some flowe
  14. Have any of you heard about this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmDENxTPn8Q&feature=related Ford is interested in using it: Ushering in a new generation of partially compostable cars, Ecovative has teamed up with Ford to use their mushroom-based foam as a key component in bumpers, side doors, and dashboards. The best part is that the material will decompose just one month after being buried. Gavin McIntyre and Eben Bayer discovered that mycelia (mushroom roots) are a natural binding agent that can be combined with agricultural products such as corn and oat husks to make an inc
  15. There ars some articles online about it. Here's one from PC World: AT&T's U-Verse and DSL Data Caps: Good Deal, Bad Precedent By Jared Newman, PCWorld Mar 14, 2011 8:43 AM Data caps are coming to AT&T's U-Verse and DSL services, but they're unlikely to affect the vast majority of customers -- for now ... http://www.pcworld.com/article/222039/atandts_uverse_and_dsl_data_caps_good_deal_bad_precedent.html
  16. Thanks. I ordered a long HDMI cable last night.
  17. Thanks. I saved the thread you started in December about how to save money on HDMI cables. I used the information when I bought a cable for a new HDTV.
  18. Looking at the side of the laptop I see a VGA port and an HDMI Connector. What connection would give the best quality picture and audio?
  19. Thanks. What kind of quality (picture and audio) do you get with your set-up? I have a couple of laptops. I don't know if either have an HDTV output. I watched a how-to video on it and it showed changing the settings like you describe. One reviewer on amazon mentioned using a splitter though.
  20. I want to hook a laptop to my HDTV. I looked online and saw where I can use a VGA cable and a 3.5mm audio cable. I have a choice of 2 cables or one cable with both combined. Which is best? I am looking at ones 15'. I saw where someone mentioned using a splitter cable to look at a different screen on the laptop than what is on tht TV. Is that the only option to do that? I'm thinking about ordering from www.mycablemart.com/. Has anyone ordered from them before?
  21. Scrip as a de facto form of currency within the the mining or logging industry was discontinued around 1952. "Sixteen Tons" is a song about the life of a coal miner, first recorded in 1946 by American country singer Merle Travis and released on his box set album Folk Songs of the Hills the following year. A 1955 version recorded by Tennessee Ernie Ford reached number one in the Billboard charts, while another version by Frankie Laine was released only in the United Kingdom, where it gave Ford's version some stiff competition. Travis claimed authorship of the song, but a competing claim

  23. There was a holiday party about the time I joined. It was called Decemberfest. I found this thread about it. I'm disappointed that the pics that were posted don't seem to be visible now. It's sounds like people enjoyed it. I don't know where it was held: http://paulding.com/forum/index.php/topic/87277-decemberfest-was-awsome/page__st__120
  24. I had been having some symptoms from the pollen, but the last few days have been much worse. I took Zyrtec for a few years when it was a prescription, but then it got to where it didn't work that well. I tried some other over the counter ones and those don't do much now. I was wondering if any of you have found anything natural that works?
  25. I like to read nonfiction. I also still have a cassette player I use for books on tape. At bookstores and other stores that have books I always go to the nonfiction section. I also like inspirational books and books that have ideas on living a better balanced life. What are some nonfiction (types or titles) books you like?
