We tend to take car break-ins with a grain of salt. I live in a rather nice neighborhood (aside from the crazy HOA people, including the overzealous guy that likes to go 'checking' the various homeowners' backyards, porches, etc...but I digress). Anyway, our cars were broken into during a string of vandalism/break-ins. It sounds like it's a typical kind of place--some complaints, some happy customers, par for the course I just wanted to be sure no one had heard of any MAJOR issues, such as I know I've head from numerous people about Harris Bridge. We will also check out the places

For some reason my replies aren't showing She is a senior. She has lived in an apartment for the last year, so some of the complaints on the other site make sense--it goes with apartment life. We did look at Amberley, and while it is more expensive (and much smaller), it has some perks as well. Evergreen is the only viable option as far as an apartment goes, but Amberley is definitely still on the table as an option

We toured the Evergreen at Lost Mountain apartments today for my mom who is moving back to PC in June. She very much liked the place, and it is at the top of our list of options. Does anyone have any input on these apartments, good or bad? Thanks

I went at 8:15am and walked right into the courthouse (my polling place) and never had any line. In fact, there were only about 4 people voting, out of 18 machines.

As an aside, if you do shoot off some major fireworks at 2am, it would likely be wise to NOT leave the cardboard remains of the fireworks right in front of your house--marking you as the moron who woke up an entire neighborhood.
-
It was fireworks--apparently the heavy duty kind. My husband was downstairs and went running out the door when he heard it (I know, I know--apparently, when you hear what sounds like rifle fire, heading *toward* the sound makes the most sense). Anyway, he saw the fireworks over the houses, so he's sure that's what it was. And what kind of a**pony do you have to be to set off fireworks like that at 2am?

Ha! I bet after the first couple of people escorted out the rest of the crowd simmered down

I can't imagine what that professor, and all involved in getting the mail from point A to point B would be feeling right now. Have they said whether the package was mailed to arrive before or after the attack? As an aside, we had just watched The Dark Knight a few days before this happened. With that movie fresh in mind, it seemed that there were some serious parallels pointing to the fact that the guy really played himself/thought of himself as the joker. The fact that he told the police his apartment was booby-trapped, as opposed to just letting them walk in, seemed to be totally a mindg

I'm sorry, but some of these comments, both here and on Twitter (John Rich and Neal Boortz--I'm talking to you!) are making me crazy. This was his tweet a few minutes ago: "Shooting in CO is why ppl should have their carry permits. Had I been there I would have unloaded on that maniac till he stopped breathing" Generally speaking, I would agree that yes, a law-abiding citizen with a CC permit, would have been instrumental in stopping a crazy man with a weapon. I am a huge proponent of people with CC permits carrying them, and in a case of self-defense, using them. There was a school shooti

I also had the "Holy crap-what didn't I pay" heart attack. Apparently, there are also robocalls that start with "This is a call to collect a debt. Do not hang up." I think this is the most disgusting ad campaign I have ever seen. How many people got those letters or calls today and truly are in those situations--can you imagine if the machine/voicemail cut off? If you would like to give Mr. Heath some feedback, he was reachable earlier at (770) 537-5234 according to a FB friend.

Not just WSBTV--Fox 5 was perusing our cul-de-sac as well trying to find parents/students to talk to.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but I think very few people outside of teachers and administrators fully grasp the purpose of these types of questions and assignments, since they aren't slammed with 'cross-curricular professional learning' and demands to see cross-curricular lesson plans carried out in the classroom. I know this has been said ad-nauseum, but it bears repeating. Administrators and county office personnel require teachers to work together on cross-curricular units. These questions are not standing totally on their own. In this classroom, as in the story a few months

This may be a double post--stupid Google Chrome. Does anyone know if there is damage to the neighborhood behind HJMS (Rosewood Dr., Wildwood Dr.)?

Thank you so much to Mark at Riley's Auto Detailing. Not only did he make my SUV look amazing, he is incredibly honest--my daughter had dropped her iPhone under the seat, and we hadn't been able to find it. The iPhone was the first thing he handed me (along with a set of keys I'd lost) when he pulled into the driveway I would absolutely recommend him to anyone

State Health Benefit Plan (insurance for school employees)
ktan458 replied to ktan458's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Honestly, I am interested in getting more info about the HRA. What irritates me about our insurance now is that we have a $1000 deductible, but office copays and prescriptions don't go toward that. Since we spend about $400/month of Rx, as well as $250 every 2 months for office visit copays, it would do us well for that stuff to actually count (especially since that is all on top of the $300/month premiums I pay). -
Has anyone heard information about the insurance plans being offered for next year for PCSD employees? Several new teachers are saying they were told by Paulding County that employees would not have the option to choose an HMO or PPO. The only 2 options were HRA and HDP (high deductible plan). I can't find any other info online, and I am really hoping this isn't the case. Anyone heard anything?

Did the "Born" Family Really name their Kid "First"?
ktan458 replied to AustinPlantation's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I just think it's tacky to mock others--esp. kids. If the article was about his unique name, that would be different. As it was, though, it was actually highlighting his achievement. Sad that part gets missed and the name is the topic of conversation among a bunch of adults. -

Amazing kid His original name suits his personality. Not sure what I'd think of my (minor) children's full names being broadcast and bantered about in such a way, though. -
My husband and I were cracking up. If I can figure out how to cut the sound (since we were giving our Mystery Science 3000 commentary) I'll post the video I took of it with my iPhone

Additionally, as much as I would *love* for her to be able to step into that position, the county has a process in place for people to apply for principal positions. This would include an interview with a committee at the school level, and it is no longer just a 'slide-in' kind of thing like it used to be. Personally, I think she would be perfect as she knows the school, the kids, the parents, and is just an overall amazing administrator. I think there are many that are hoping that she gets in there

I hear you, esp. since I also have 2 kids that are exact opposites in regard to punishments. Again, though, it is the parent's responsibility to come up with punishment, not the teacher. She has 20+ kids to work with (up to 35 once you get to 4th grade), and it is completely insane to expect the teacher to curb a child's constant misbehavior on his or her own. The onus is on the parent to be sure that their kid behaves in school--and come up with the appropriate punishments at home.
-
Wait, were you serious? (kidding, MD, but after 11+ years of teaching, I have *never* had a child who loves to write that much)
-
Maybe it's just me, but if my child was on yellow every.single.day, I'd have an idea of *exactly* what he was doing on about day 3. I just don't understand how we got to the point that the teacher is responsible for coming up with a punishment to curb one child's behavior. That absolutely blows my mind.
-
*deep breath* I know that it's not the way you meant it, MarkDavd, but this thought just threw me over the edge. I have a real problem with the idea that the teacher needs to come up with alternate forms of punishment. The OP came out and said that the child is doing this often, so the assumption is that his misbehavior is continuing. At this point, why is the parent not stepping in and saying 'what can *I* do to ensure that he behaves'? This child is likely one of 20+ in the classroom, making him one of many that the teacher is responsible for. Compare this to the OP, who is res

It's not like it was talked about in the montage before, so that everyone knew exactly what was coming.... Oh, wait.
