    MLK Day

I understand what you are saying LPPT, but I do not see the connection to the comparison that Jughaid layed out in her opening post. The assumption laid forth is that the folks who argued the first on moral grounds are themselves amoral by accepting holiday pay for the second. My question is this. If you do not celebrate this holiday but the Federal government has made it a recognized holiday. Your employer observes this holiday and closes down. You would just as soon go to work but work is closed. However your employer does pay you holiday pay. So is it immoral to accept compe

And I will say the same to you.

    MLK Day

That is my point LPPT. But that is the topic that Jughaid was refering and comparing getting holiday pay for to.

There is a big difference in having a holiday thrust upon you by the government and getting paid holiday pay for it and applying for money from insurance benefits (designed to help one survive while searching for another job) that you have no intention of ever truly looking for. Sad that some still do not grasp that basic of a concept.
  5. Nuh huuh... it is the War of Northern aggression.
  6. Shooo! That is good to know!!! Those Carpet bags are U G L Y!! I would hate to have to carry one.
  7. Rednck Origin The term "redneck" comes from the West Virginia Coalminer's march or the battle of Blair mountain when coalminers wore a red bandana around their neck to identify themselves as seeking the opportunity to unionize. Story here See... they are Union folks and Democrats. I could not possibly be a "Redneck"
  8. Doooh!!! I saw / read that the other day, the origin of the term "redneck". I'll have to go find it again. I'm thinking it had something to do with a red bandana around someones neck. Common for a certain group somewhere.
  9. I'm from Berlin (for those that do not know, that is Northern Germany). I was raised in Georgia. So I do not know where I would technically fall on the whole Yankee / Redneck thing.

AFG... What happens if I call at 8:58?
  11. Take a moment to think about the flip side of this. Do not wallow in your grief, but rather rejoice in their new found freedom at going home. While your grief is normal, you must go on while remembering them in your heart. Things will get easier.
  12. Sorry, I just can not stand wearing thongs.
  13. I'll take a cut over a burn any day thank you. You can keep the baked arm.
  14. GW, let me ask you this one simple question then. If they do as you want them to do and screen everyone, then who screens the very first deputy who comes in first in the morning. Are you wanting them to keep a 24 hr guard on a 9 - 5 building?
  15. Well I was out doing lawn work today and all I'm gonna say is "now I's gots me one of my own". What can I say? Poop happens...
  16. GW, I think I see where you are coming from. I am refering to employees who have been prescreened. A background check done and most likely are given a gun a badge and tasked with protecting others. You have to trust these people to a large degree. But ask yourself this question. If a Deputy "snapped", 1. Why would he go into a courtroom and start shooting it up? 2. If he snapped, do you not think there may be some pre-event indicators that the department should pick up on. I am not saying it is right or wrong to screen them to. I am saying that these people are supposed to be the epitome of tr
  17. GW, Some have detectors for employees, others nothing. The thing to remember is that most of these deputies already know who the employees are on sight. As employees they have already been cleared for security. As a police officer I had to lock up all my weapons and bullets before going into court. Even though the alarm would activate from my collar brass, name tag, uniform badge, wallet badge and cuffs. There was no reason to take all that off too before going into court. I would walk through, go beep and then proceed. If the deputy takes a notion he can still question me though. In short som
  18. From the story, her son just turned 1 in Jan. She joined in 2007 but no month given. A quick mathematical analysis gives this for a MAX timeline. Joined in Jan 2007. Conceived her son sometime about Apr, 2008. Had him Jan 2009. She is "no longer in a relationship with the father"?!? WTH So at the very least she joined up and became pregnant with a "love child" within 16 months of starting service. She should have been discharged back then. Yeah I know they can't do it but come on. Sorry to sound chauvinistic, but this is one of the issues that I have with women in the military. It is kind of h
  19. I have never been in the military so I am a little vague on military law. I will say this. Charge her first. Now let me finish before you bash me. I would think that they could not discharge her without charging her. After that a discharge maybe along with a fine to cover special losses. By that I mean matters in her life have cost the military. They invested in a person, training, clothing, sustinance and more. She promised them a soldier and failed to deliver when needed. Also if this is simply let go, then how many other single mother's child care will suddenly go "poof" when they are to be
  20. Sounds like the dogs I fed up here a few weeks ago. I saw them and brought them food. The pitbulls looked more like youngsters and werew quite friendly. The squabbled over the food though. I did not have the time to pen them and call AC and I will not just keep putting food out for all the strays to come get. I'm glad you were able to get AC to come out. I called them on another dog that got loose and wound up tangled in his own cable in the for sale sign and bushes at the house with the "special" mailbox. They came and got him. He did not seem very friendly to me.
  21. Dick Donovan's partner does this. They are in Douglasville by the PD.

    Frost Heave?

In general all permanant structures must meet code. Some other structures will have to meet reduced codes. In construction it is well known that a structure is only as good as it's foundation. With that in mind and a little knowledge about weather we came up with the frost / freeze line. The freeze line basically is the depth to which the local ground (code enforced) is generally known to freeze. All footings must extend beneathe this freeze line. If they do not then things start to move when the ground freezes and thaws. It is possible that with our last bout of excessive cold, that we exceed
