  1. I would note here that a vote is NOT required for the cuts to expire and increase taxes, a vote in both houses and the Prez has to sign a bill to *extend* the existing cuts. A big difference.
  2. Well at this point, the poll looks interesting with an average expectation of losing $200 a month to the tax increases. With the ability now for the Rep and Dem to point and blame the other for not "compromising" and the understanding that more taxes is more money *they* can spend, (Pay off the deficit? Right....) I see a big business crash in Dec/Jan onward. Time to pull my 401K back out of the market I think...
  3. Be interesting to see statistics on land line disconnects and see if it correlates with the 2 year election cycle. Hmmm... will AT&T come out for a ban on robo calls? It's got to clog up the system too...
  4. The rate change was only part of it. The Child credit drops back to $500 a child from $1000 a child, and the marriage penalty will come back. (Standard deduction for Married couple is only 165% of single deduction) The Tax foundation did a lot of number crunching and found for the median income in the Ga 11th District you get: GA-11 Gingrey ® Federal Tax. Bush Cuts Without With Increase Income $4,127 $2,505 $1,622. $62,031 That will require a 65% increase in withholding to pay the extra taxes. But wait!! The $800 Obama Credit is also expiring. If it doesn't pass,
  5. Just wondering what the impact is on our spending now because of the uncertainty of the tax withholding changes in January. I'm not convinced that the cuts for under $250K are a sure thing, nor Pres. Obama's request for the $800 credit to be extended. I know myself, we are looking at getting Dish or cable, I haven't wanted to commit to any TV contracts since that is the first thing I'd give up if I end up $200+ / a month short in withholding next year. Are you letting it affect your spending now?
  6. I agree. I would add that another revenue source would be to get rid of the hundreds of property tax exemptions that have been passed over the years. Each time a special interest group was given a new exemption, more revenue was lost. They write the amendments to make it sound so good, but someone has to make up that lost revenue.
  7. Thanks for mentioning this, didn't realized these ended up in a runoff. Anybody know if there will there be early voting for runoffs?
  8. Running around trying to finish closing the pool that I had been putting off until it was cold. I think that time has arrived.
  9. The 90 million is a theoretical maximum, not a guarantee. A sales tax is based on in-county spending. They collect what they collect. With the slowdown and loss of businesses in the county, I don't expect a huge windfall for the schools from this. I don't remember where I read it, but I think I saw somewhere that the existing SPLOST is now estimated to only raise approx $65 million total of the 90 million authorized and that includes three years of boom before the housing bust two years ago. If you look at your tax bill, you will see that for the last few years, the 1% LOST has gener
  10. I too would add my thanks, so much so that I'll renew my subscription soon!! (Even though I prefer text to video news. ) (just had to get that in there) Thanks Pubby! SG
  11. As soon as I get home, I'll be doing the same, except skipping her and going directly to the commission. I wonder if she has/had any poll experience before being hired? It seems to me that anyone that has experience with elections in this state knows that general elections that have a lot of amendments on the ballot go much slower than the primaries where they do not. You can't compare voter time in the booth between the two. The attitude that "we were right anyway, the voters were wrong for trying to vote on Election day" is what really get's me. Just admit you screwed up and won't
  12. Gotta agree, that was a crappy response. It's ELECTION DAY. You know, when PEOPLE VOTE! <sigh> I remember somebody years ago that gave me some great advice. The most powerful four words in the world when dealing with customer service are: "WHO IS YOUR BOSS? and "WHAT IS HIS NUMBER". I would assume that entire department reports back to the commission, so i guess it's time to start writing the boss.
  13. Glad I had swallowed my water before I read that or I'd spewed everywhere!! The mental image that came up was priceless!!
  14. Just want to state that they did take away the choice of McDonalds to put a toy in their product, and the reason had nothing to do with the *toy* being unsafe. That's pretty screwed up.
  15. Would never do that! Who knows you might turn out to be right and if you moved, who would tell me so later? In any case, to me, this one really is situation dependent. I feel it was not a matter of being "right" or "wrong" on the issue. For many people, not having the SPLOST was the right choice, for others having it was. Depends on where you live and where you shop and if you are a property owner vs renter. Your point on deductability of the tax was a good one I hadn't thought of, I appreciate you bringing it up. BTW: I apologize if I sounded too sharp there, it was a late night
  16. This one really isn't doing anything for the schools, it is mainly for the property owners. It's making 5 years of payments on the 125 million bond that was passed by the voters several years ago. If it happens to collect more than the bond payments, then the schools can use the extra for capital projects, but that will be several years down the road. (if ever)
  17. You know, you do have the CHOICE to shop in Paulding or not. You DON'T have to pay the SPLOST if YOU don't want to. All of us here HAVE to pay the Property tax. Use your CHOICE and shop elsewhere and gain both ways. Cobb/Douglas/Polk/Bartow Counties are ready when you are.
  18. Maybe in your case CJ, but for others of us it makes sense. You do have the option to buy all your stuff out of county and not pay the SPLOST. Then you'll get savings on both sides.
  19. My question is will our idiot remain as missing as the 19th's Rep as she did as the candidate...
  20. Pubster - How do you get 21% voted? Do you mean voted today or total? The last update showed: Registered Voters 71257 - Cards Cast 26186 36.75% That is including all early voting with 4 precincts left and I would think that McClure would be the site of most of them and with the turnout there that number should climb a good bit.

  22. Me thinks that somebody's favorite jacket got sold by mistake...
  23. Dunno. Looks like a mistake, unless they are using exit polls to make the call.
