I prefer Christmas, but do question those that use it. Some prefer to use it just to upset those of us that don't. If that is the motivation, I shouldn't say anything, that is between them and Him.

Lady Raider I'm so glad it was not your son. Being that close and no one around, I would have done exactly the same thing. I find in amazing that someone would actually make a comment like that.

We've had a little snow on Christmas before. Can't remember any sticking but I do remember one year it snowed on Christmas Day, big ole flakes. And then there was the ice storm on Christmas Day............I think that was 1993, the same year we had the "big snow" in the spring. I kinda hope it does snow (but not stick) for the kiddos, they would love it.

That makes sense, I've never tried boiling the ham hock or bacon in advance. I bet it would only make it that much better. They could have sprinkled some fried bacon in just before serving. Restaurants and Chefs love the impact of how it looks

I got this recipe out of the AJC years ago. I wouldn't eat collards until I cooked them this way. 1 bunch collards 1 smoked Ham Hock (you could use bacon) 1 medium onion 2 t. minced fresh garlic 2-3 t. cider vinegar 2-3 t. dark cane syrup (I use molasses here) 1 t. salt (or to taste) 1/2 t. to taste red pepper, black pepper and white pepper (I use 1/2 t. of each) few dashes of hot pepper sauce Cut off and discard base of stems, the chop upper stems and leaves coursely. Wash several times in cold water and drain thoroughly. Place 1 cup of packed greens in the food processor o

I love when I get things hand made by my grandkids. A drawing framed, hand prints framed. I also go one of those kits one year that has the concrete mold to put hand prints in, they are supposed to be used for stepping stones. Mine are in my garden but no one better step on them I do take them in in the winter because I'm afraid the hand prints will fill up with water, freeze and crack............don't want that to happen.
