  1. That might make it OK to have an early afternoon Martini or Margarita.
  2. From my past experience, you will be wasting your time with EPA or the State EPD. EPA refers the complaint to the EPD, a division of DNR. Bill Carruth, the owner of Aiken Grading sits on the DNR board, and the EPD office has never followed up on any of our complaints. The previous field agent for Paulding was transfered to Brunswick shortly after we filed our lawsuits against the BOC and the developer. This agent had told us he filled out the complaints, and his boss would toss them in the trashcan. Good luck with them. You will have to prove alot in court, and it will cost you thous
  3. Son has taken the DMV approved motorcycle safety course, and needs to pick up his license. Anyone know the locations of the closest DMV offices ?
  4. I kind of like this idea. Included with it show them a chart of gas wasted to floor it, so they can pass someone in the process of coasting to a stop for a light which just turned red 500 yards down the road. Then as they barrel up to the red traffic light at 65, they dance on their brakes and give it a little fishtail trying to not slam into the car ahead. And don't dare leave more than 1 or 2 car lengths while going down 278 at 55+, cause that same guy will nail it again to come around you and zoom into the 25' space. Paulding drivers. You just gotta love 'um!
  5. Or try a mirror outside close to the window, but away from the deck. If he is in love with his reflection he will prefer the one in the mirror. Also, do you possibly have a cat which might have disturbed the bird's nest ? Mocking birds have been know to devote the rest of a breeding season to attack a cat which has disturbed their nest. We used to have a feline who was quite the "Birder" and would climb up and take the young birds before they fledged and left the nest. We would really get a kick out of watching the Mocking Birds swoop down to dive bomb him if he gave them an opp
  6. There is very, very, little traffic coming onto 278 from Pace Road early in the morning. The traffic there does not start until later when the stores are all open. What traffic there is can get out on the blinking light when the breaks occur back from the light at business 6 and 278. But if everyone proceeds through it when flashing yellow/amber, additional cars can make the light at 92, moving traffic along a little better through the Hiram Sprawl at 6:30 in the morning. And like mentioned above, those who do stop to allow cars to exit onto 278 from Pace Road actually increase the chan
  7. Well, DOUBLE DAYAM, hell must have frozen over solid. Ald Ithy and I agreed on something. Granted....it is politically neutral and mundane, but none the less, earth shattering all the same!!!
  8. What about mold, and some ceiling spotting ? We got a little water in the crawl space, and our metal roof allowed several ceiling spots which we have not encountered before. We are 50' or higher from the flood plain so no flood insurance and I am not certain we would meet the deductible if we did. Do I fill out paperwork with FEMA ? And what about yard damage ? We have a drainage ditch cut across the high side of the property to divert water away from the house. Where it turns the corner and runs down along the side of the property is silted up with a foot or more of mud
  9. OK, I think we have been down the road before, but maybe I am incorrect.... The light at RBC Bank/Pace Road and 278, just West of the Hiram Kroger was set to Flash on Amber/Yellow for 278 Traffic and Red for Pace Road traffic this morning. Generally there is little to no traffic coming onto 278 from Pace early in the morning so I thought it was a good idea to keep the flow of cars moving in front of WallyWorld through the light at 92. EXCEPT 1 out of 3 cars was STOPPING at the light. Even more aggravating was there were no cars coming from Pace Road, or the gas station/auto part
  10. Left over stewed chicken gizzards in gravy, basmati rice, masa cornbread with jalapenos and cheese, and a garden salad. Last night we cooked up 15 pounds of lean corned beef, potatoes, cabbage, bread and roasted a good friend with a 50th SURPRISE Birthday party. The weather kept a handful of folks at home, so tomorrow I have to fire up the vaccum seal-a-meal and put up 5 or 6 pounds of corned beef. We will do several lunches with the potatoes left over also, and 2 or 3 dinners for the freezer.
  11. You can safely steam vegetables with the tap water. 1 minute boil, put the veggies in the steamer, and you are good to go.
  12. Left over skewered and grilled chicken hearts and a salad.
  13. Well, this time last year, Gov Sonny was arranging for his prayer meeting at the Capitol to ask God to make it rain. Day late, and dollar short, but I guess he better have another one and ask God to make it quit raining.
  14. With those grades she can qualify for HOPE in Georgia. And the $800/month will more than pay for room and board at any Georgia college with plenty left over for pocket money, entertainment and clothing. Georgia is a state which recognizes 18 as the age of majority so you would indeed risk a judge throwing out everything at 18 should you choose to open that can of worms.
  15. And for those who do have a dishwasher, but who wash their dishes by hand, the dishwasher will get the water hot enough to kill the bacteria, and use the drying cycle as well [not on energy saver, etc.]. If you have to wash by hand you should consider rinsing with boiling water.
  16. Rack of Lamb, and a 2" thick T-Bone which have been airing out in the garage fridge since Saturday. Had to wait for the rains to quite to grill them. Extra RARE! Garden green beans, garden salad and steamed basmati rice with some crunch baggettes. Life is good. Had a nice Vin de Pays to wash it all down with, after the prerequiste dirty gin martini on the rocks.
  17. Canyou get to the Atlanta airport ?, On 278/Thornton/Camp Creek Parkway I have someone coming from the airport at lunchtime. Does anyone know if Camp Creek to Thornton Road to 278 to Hiram is open the entire way ?
  18. Just want to let Pubby how much I appreciate the fact that Paulding.com was basically our only local source of detailed information today on the events going on around us. I watched in amazement as the local TV stations seemed to ignore the flooding we were taking, while looking at the situations elsewhere. And then Pubby chose to forego additional advertising revenue so he could accomodate the flood of folks [no pun intended on purpose] hitting p.com so he could keep us up to date. Thanks Patton, I appreciate the fact you accepted doing the right thing, over doing what would ha
  19. Does anyone know if the Georgia Highland College Campus in downtown Dallas is closed tomorrow morning ? I guess because it is so new I can't find anything online. Son went in to work an evening shift at Jim and Nicks, and they told him he could go home if he wanted to because it was pretty dead. I had to drop him off because my ancient relic [1984 Mercedes] DOES NOT LIKE DRIVING THROUGH SMALL FISHPONDS so I had his car to pick up MrsSurepip when and if her GRTA bus from downtown ever got here [4-1/2 hours after she was supposed to get on it]. He calls me back and says to pick him up
  20. Does anyone know if this includes the Georgia Highland College Campus in downtown Dallas ? I guess because it is so new I can't find anything online. 21. OK, we have a 100 pages or so of various documents which need to be emailed to several different places WAY too much to fax. Anyone or anyplace out there where we can scan a bunch of paper work ? Note, this is political and could be detrimental to previous occupants of local political offices. Can't say much more at this point other than my computer will not recognize my scanner as of this week and I give up reloading the drivers. Suggestions ?
  22. Ag Department sent every one home at 3:30. MrsS went out to catch the earlier 4:00 GRTA bus in front of the capital.....and waited over and hour and 10 minutes before the 4:00pm bus showed up at 5:10. We had been calling CCT who runs the bus to find out what was going on and they told us they did not know where the bus was but it was "in route". This REALLY ticked my butt because all of the buses have radios and phones and an automatic GPS system which tells the CCT offices where the bus is. I could have left at 4:15 and gone downtown to fetch her if I had only known.... They final
  23. MrsS took her GRTA bus from movies 278, and it took them an hour to get to I20. I tried to get her to call in but she had too much going on to lay out. I have suggested she get the early bus home. I am high and dry on the back upstairs deck staring in utter amazement at the river going through the drainage ditch in the back yard. When we bought here 25+ years ago, our driveway meandered across the field from the house next door because our house was owned by their daughter. First thing we did was bring in a big dozer with a driver who had done work for me in East Cobb, and he cut the ne
  24. The Facility Group is still in business, even though the president and one of his top VPs are currently serving time in a Federal Prison. But now what kind of Warranty Bond we might hold on the buildings is a whole other questions.
  25. The Facility Group had a design/build contract on King Jerry's TajMahal and Courthouse complex. I would certainly hope they will be held responsible for any flooding. I have to assume some errors were made in the calculations sizing the storm drain culverts and where the run-off from the former 50 acres of forested land, now parking lot and rooftop, would drain to. Or they just chose to use undersized culverts to save a buck.
