  1. I believe the increase in diagnosis of Autism is due to an increased awareness and broader categorization of the autism spectrum. What might have been written off as "mentally delayed" or "disruptive behavior" 15 years ago now falls within the range of autism diagnoses. I don't think it's linked to vaccines because the one study that showed a possible link was debunked a couple of years ago when the doctor admitted to falsifying his data to make it support his theory. It is very possible that environmental factors do play a role in addition to possible genetic predisposition (if the first c
  2. Hey, Gomer Pyle. I've lived here my whole life--the 285 trick doesn't work on me. I'm not a Braves pitcher! LOL. LPN. Can I send my resume? Please give me contact info. Is it with Tanner? I've interviewed with three different Tanner offices to no avail.
  3. So you have one child named Tom and one named Brady? Please don't tell me you named your kid after Lindsay Lohan or Nicki Minaj!!! LOL
  4. Our diaper bag doesn't look like a diaper bag. It's a brown color so hubby still feels manly when he carries it. It was $90 at Babies R Us but it's pretty roomy and comfy. Anyway, in an outside zipper I have the folding changing pad that came with it (MUST keep it because public bathrooms that have the baby changing tables almost never have the disposable pads) and the flat, refillable wipes container. An end exterior zipper compartment has a built-in key ring latch so my car keys hook into that and I keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer and baby brush. The opposite end exterior zipper c
  5. I don't think it should show kids engaging in adult behavior and doing something that is illegal for their age and very bad for their health. My oldest pretends to smoke with a pencil and I get onto him all the time.
  6. So there's an unfair comparison to a normal delivery. I had my baby at Kennestone last year and it was routine labor/delivery/recovery and it was maybe $6,000. Sounds like yours were pretty rough! Both my babies were born there, I was even born there, and I had complications with both pregnancies, especially the last one, and spent many days and nights there and they were wonderful. Anyway, the new Paulding hospital will be the biggest building in the county at 7 stories. I'm excited about the opening but currently don't have the funds to make a donation. Besides, Wellstar has enoug
  7. All the directions I've found say get on 75 and get off at 249B. I don't drive in Atlanta, just drive through it when I need to, so I do NOT know my way around there. The MARTA train from Holmes to 5 Points is 11 minutes, and another 2 from 5 Points to Civic Center. Plus, I'd have to pay to park (only $10/month) whereas Holmes has free parking and we get free MARTA cards. I just don't know if I'd feel safe with MARTA and walking on Peachtree/Pine Street or parking in a dark garage and driving home! How can I get there without getting on 75?
  8. The problem with that, BC, is the Falcons haters would STILL be hating and say they suck because they didn't win the Superbowl. Heck, they could even win the thing and people would still complain about the color of the rings they get. Sheesh. I'm with you, though. I'd love to see them in the big game and win! However, if they do win then Gonzales would definitely retire.
  9. I did that one time, except I was waiting to turn right onto Old 41 and the guy behind me pulled up next to me to turn left. The problem--there's not two different turn lanes, so he was basically sharing the lane with me. I turned a hard right to avoid hitting that idiot and rubbed the curb with my right rear tire. It rubbed enough to pop the seal on my tire so in the 1/4 mile I had to get to work my tire had gone flat. I changed it in the parking lot so it wouldn't be sitting flat all day. I just bought a new one at Wal Mart and made sure to hog the turn lane from then on! ETA--you'r
  10. You can go to www.coupons.com and www.couponmom.com and print them out. Couponmom.com also shows the sale fliers for various stores and how you can combine a sale with a coupon to get free stuff ($.50 off Heinz catsup which doubles to $1.00 off, and it's on sale for $1.00 so you'd get it free, for example). Check with your neighbors and see if they get the Sunday paper and have any unwanted coupons, or some stores may let you have their coupon inserts from unsold newspapers.
  11. Well, I'm a nurse and the position is with Emory at Midtown--the old Crawford Long building. The X-press bus from Hiram would be the easiest but the departure times from Midtown are 4:55, 5:05, and 5:50. My scheduled hours are 8-5, so I'd hate to miss the 5:05 and have to wait nearly an hour, and the 5:50 bus wouldn't get back to Hiram until 7:15. I'm thinking of taking I-20 to HE Holmes and jumping on the MARTA train. I think I can switch at 5 Points and go one stop north to the Civic Center and walk the block or so to the building. I'm terrified of walking in Atlanta, even midtown, when
  12. Oh, I've been searching all those areas too. They were my first choice--trust me, I did not want to drive into Atlanta if possible. I've been actively searching for a job for 6 months and have interviewed everywhere from Carrollton to NE Atlanta (literally next to the CDC in DeKalb county). I could drive into Atlanta and pay to park but I'd rather save myself the headache and stress of going into midtown, but the Xpress bus only runs 3 times a day? I could drive to the MARTA Holmes station and take the train and switch trains--somewhere--and it's giving me a headache.
  13. I'm job searching and have had to broaden my search region to include Atlanta. What is the best/safest/fastest/cheapest way to get there? I know there's a bus that runs from Hiram into Midtown, does anybody know that schedule or cost and is it part of MARTA? Does a MARTA bus come out this way at all? Or should I suck it up and get over my fear and drive into downtown/midtown Atlanta if I had to? I've only ever taken MARTA from HE Holmes to the Dome for a Falcons game so I don't have any experience with their bus services. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  14. Aww, that's sweet, but I'm a redhead. I want to know if traffic coming off 278 to Target and that whole area has to stop. There's a white line painted but no posted stop sign. Everyone stops there otherwise cross traffic wouldn't ever be able to get through the intersection, and every other access road has a stop sign for cars coming off 278. I almost got hit there because the driver coming off 278 said she didn't have to stop and I did even though I'd gotten to the intersection first.
  15. Another easy one and kid-friendly too. Tater tot casserole 1-pkg frozen tater tots 1-lb ground beef (again, we use ground turkey) 2-cans cream of chicken soup 1-cup shredded cheddar cheese 1/2 cup milk Preheat oven to 450. Put frozen tots in glass 13x9 casserole dish and put in oven while it's heating up. Brown ground beef/turkey until cooked through. Add soup and milk, stir well. Oven should be warm by now. Remove casserole dish, add cheese on top of tots, then add beef mixture. Cover with foil, bake at 450 25 minutes. Panko Ranch chicken 1-pkg boneless, skinless
  16. Congrats on 40 years!! I'd drop a big hint to the kids and say that you'll help but to keep it a surprise for your wife. My sister and I threw a big one for our parent's 40th but our parents gave their input--we just followed their wishes. We also had the same flowers that were in their wedding and the same music and I put together a slide show of their wedding pictures and pictures through the years--that would be a great surprise for your wife. PowerPoint is pretty easy to use! Or if you wanted to do a small gathering as the gift to your wife that would be acceptable too.

    Roll Tide!

I, too, am a die-hard DAWGS fan. I was yelling "Roll SEC!" (can't quite Roll Tide) because we know the SEC is the best division in college football. Yes, we root against and for our rivals depending on the situation. The funny thing is a sports writer on Yahoo! was saying that nobody should automatically write off Notre Dame as losing to the SEC (this was before the SEC championship game when we knew who would face ND) because the SEC is overrated--the SEC opponents aren't as tough as ND's opponents. Really?
  18. My grandmother died in 1962, before my parents even met, so it's nice that he has something of hers.
  19. Two easy ones for you. The first one we call "Two Chicken" because it's two boneless skinless breasts, two cans of cream of chicken soup, and two bags of boil-in-bag brown rice. Cook the chicken in some olive oil in a skillet then cut into very small pieces. Boil the rice according to package directions, drain the water. Add the two cans of soup and cut chicken to the rice, stir well. It's so easy and filling and my picky 11-year-old ate it--he hates rice! This one is BBQ bake. So easy and so delicious--it was made for us when I'd had my baby last year and I'm a picky eater too! 1-l
  20. My dad has the cast-iron skillet that was given to his mother as a wedding gift in 1938. Talk about well-seasoned! He only uses it to make cornbread!
  21. Y'all said all of my list! Lindsay, Nicki, Kanye, Jersey Shore, "Real" Housewives of anywhere, the people who keep thinking up reality TV shows, John Mayer. Can I add Tom Brady to the list?
  22. I'd love to go but it's not in my budget--not even close. Regarding season ticket price increases, don't ticket prices go up in general when the team is doing better and having regular winning seasons?
  23. I was pulling for the Seahawks because I'm not a fan of RG3. I hate that he got hurt, though. He reminds me of Vick, the way he thinks he is the entire team and would rather run the ball than play safe. I'm hoping the Falcons will run all over Seattle and keep running all the way through Feb 3!
  24. Tyson brand? That's all we buy from Kroger. I cut them into strips then cut the strips in half (get about 8-9 from one breast--we're talking Dolly Parton chickens here). In a bowl I beat 2 eggs, in another bowl I combine Panko bread crumbs and a ranch seasoning packet. Dip the strips in the egg then roll in the Panko/ranch mixture, bake 350 for about 30 minutes (our oven runs hot so it's less time than normal). They're always delicious and my overly-picky 11-year-old loves them too. Chicken is very tricky to bake, just don't overcook it. It took years to get it just right for me.
  25. Is it productive (coughing up gunk) or nonproductive? If productive, what color is the mucus? Is it a ticklish annoying cough or deep, wet cough? I love Dr. Piansky on Austell Rd right at Mulkey Rd (near Cobb hospital) GA Internal Medicine. Like the others have mentioned, it could be reflux or allergies. I had a patient tell me the doc was crazy when she was diagnosed with reflux and refused the medication, I suggested she try it anyway and asked about her symptoms--described them all to a T, so she started taking the Prilosec and it cleared right up. I also worked in allergy so we'd see
