  1. I thought it was one hour early--need to get moving!!!
  2. I have a Kindle Fire and just connect to WiFi. I get books and games (free ones until I can get another Amazon gift card) and the local library system will let you check out eBooks via your library card. Hubby has an iPad 2 and I like both. My Kindle was cheaper and is a little smaller but it works just fine for me.
  3. That's another thing--CGI. It can be amazing when used properly, but that's what the movie is built around. I know the actors say it's harder because they have to react to a green screen, but isn't that what acting is all about? If they tried to make ET now, for instance, there wouldn't be a lifelike robot, it would be a CGI ET. And to reference Jaws again, there wouldn't be a malfunctioning robot shark named Bruce (named Bruce after Speilberg's attorney, and that's why the shark in Finding Nemo is named Bruce--tribute to Speilberg), it would look like that stupid, impossibly fast shark in
  4. There's been rumors of a Dirty Dancing remake and lots of speculation about who should play the leads. Derek Hough from Dancing With The Stars would be a great Johnny! Ghost needs to be left alone though.
  5. NO!!!!!!!! Movies today suck because they lack the classic elements of a good movie--decent script, building suspense, good acting, slick camera work, editing. Nowadays it's just jump to the sexy bodies and violence and blood. If they remade Jaws there wouldn't be the innocence of the opening scene on the beach, teenagers flirting and giggling and running for a late skinny-dip, we'd get an entire sex scene. The attack scenes wouldn't be just the hints of it, there would be full shots of nothing but flesh being ripped apart. They would turn it into a cross between Texas Chainsaw Massacr
  6. Salon Rouge in Hiram uses Square with an iPad for all their credit card swipes. It's pretty neat, they swipe it and you enter your email address and sign. It emails the receipt to you and electronically tracks your visits (something like a free cut after 10 visits) so you don't have to carry a little card to get punched. My receipt was emailed to me by the time I got out of the front door. I don't know what they pay for it but the owner did say it was much easier and cheaper than a traditional credit card machine.
  7. We had a neighbor that peeped ALL THE TIME. If someone came over too late for her taste (after 8:00), she'd call and ask what was going on. If a different car was in the driveway (my uncle got a new car and was showing it off), she'd call and say she didn't recognize the car and does she need to call the police. Every. . .single. . .time. Fortunately I was just a kid and didn't have to deal with it. Me, personally, I don't peep. There's not a lot going on here except our neighbors dogs (all three of them) barking ALL NIGHT LONG and every time I go into my own backyard.
  8. For all you know they pay for their own meals and politely deny the free meal. Sure, they may get a freebie every now and then, which is great for all they do, but they may also buy their own or pay for the person behind them in line--without knowing it's hard to judge. I can see why you would be irked if the same cop was blatantly taking advantage every day and waltzing in demanding free chicken minis, but we can't be sure if that's the case. It seems like it's a win-win. CFA gets cops in there regularly which deters crime, the employees and management get to know the officers, and the of
  9. I'd rather see Carrie acting and singing "The Sound Of Music" than Lindsey Lohan. ")
  10. True, ER visits can not be denied for any reason. While they won't refuse treatment for inactive Medicaid, they'll still bill you for it. For the non-drivers, the state still issues photo ID cards that say "ID ONLY" and can be used for photo ID. I understand your frustration--I see it all the time. I worked in an office and so many people would give an attitude when asked for their ID and/or insurance card because "I was just here last year" but we still need it. My peds office asks for it every time I walk in the door and I'm there every 3 months with my baby. Oh, and if you have a
  11. A friend of mine has a daughter in Poole who's sick right now. Everybody needs to wash hands for a full 20 seconds (sing Happy Birthday) with soap and warm water to help cut down on catching it. Yes, parents need to keep sick kids home. Employers need to be understanding to this and not give you a hard time or try to make you go in to work when you call out with a sick child, especially an elementary school kid. (Yes, that actually happened to me--once when my son was running a fever and once when I was on my way to the ER with my hyperemesis). I had an interviewer ask me what my plan was
  12. That old store where Sweetwater Church dead ends into Dorris Rd (the back way into Douglasville) had a sign advertising it. If you head up toward the mountains you can find it easily--check some of the apple places near Jasper and Ellijay.
  13. I've never understood paying hundreds of dollars for an animal. My current dog is the only one I've ever paid for and that was $100 to reimburse the animal rescue group the cost of his shots and neutering and supplies. Hubby has two purebred dogs that he paid $300+ (each). My rescue mutt is the sweetest, most well-behaved of the three. As to your question, I don't know of any. Check PetsMart on the weekends since they have different rescue groups bring their animals, and different PetsMarts have different groups so venture into Cobb and Cherokee and Bartow also.
  14. Hmmm. My cousin drives a maroon Jeep Wrangler (was it a Wrangler or Cherokee or Liberty or what?) but he's in his mid-30s so he should know better. Or not, guys tend to be pretty clueless. That brings to mind the story of the guys who were drinking at Runaround Sue's in Marietta a few years back. They got in the car and were driving down Hwy 5 and the passenger was going to be sick so he stuck his head out the window and the driver had gotten a little close to the guide wire on the phone pole and decapitated the passenger. Driver was so drunk he didn't even realize it and drove all the wa
  15. The ER registration after triage has been a few years now, I'd say about 5 or so. They have a customer service rep who wheels her little cart with the computer into your room, verifies your name and DOB. If you've been in before they'll pull you up and verify if you're at the same address and insurance and will update if not. If you have an ER copay they'll take it at that time. I was in the ER 4 times last year with my pregnancy (good old hyperemesis) and one time the registration person recognized me as I was giving my name. They still verify your insurance and will bill you for any non
  16. I think we all get a little misty this time of year. I miss my grandparents and always cry thinking about them, especially my grandmother, and they both loved this time of year. They've been gone 12 and 16 years and each Christmas I still see their smiling faces hanging ornaments and passing out gifts. Each family member has an ornament engraved with their name on it and hang them on Christmas Eve--just not the same when my mom and her siblings hang my grandparents' ornaments. Christmas brings happy memories tinged with sadness because our loved ones aren't there to make more memories yet
  17. It's not just the roof that they don't like. The Dome is 20 years old (dang, I'm getting old--I was there at Roam the Dome opening weekend when my high school band performed) and I noticed this summer that the aisles are steep and narrow, especially in the nosebleeds where I was sitting. Maybe they'll have more seating and a better layout.
  18. Yes, use your blinker before you turn and change lanes. Apparently it's so rare that people use their blinker and look before they change lanes that I got blared at. I turned my blinker on (it's supposed to signal a desire to plan to move) and the car next to me starts laying on their horn before I could even check my mirrors and over my shoulder--and I hadn't moved! Just curious--when the car in front of you is slowing down to make a right-hand turn (another rarity), do you slow down also or pass them even if you're going into the oncoming traffic lane? I'm a native Georgian and I wa
  19. This whole thing is a mess. The best thing that could have happened is dropping the preexisting condition clause completely. Most people with preexisting conditions aren't abusing the system by marrying someone for their coverage a week before surgery just to get benefits. They've changed jobs or their HR changed insurance providers and they have to start over with a new company. That happened at my office one year and everyone had to start their one-year preexisting waiting period even though there had been no lapse in previous coverage. One coworker had been in the middle of chemo and h
  20. I'd let Hiram PD know because they don't have accurate info either and she could get into further trouble even if it was an innocent typo. They might have transposed a number from the officer's report to the dictated one. Also, if you have her insurance info then let them contact her.
  21. Okay, so it's "lazy" to take on an animal then, once you've realized you can't care for it properly ask if anyone would like to give it a loving home? What would be a better approach--dump it at the pound and hope it gets adopted within a week? The pound is the lazy way to deal with it. Why do people jump on someone who's trying to do the right thing and at least find this animal a new home? You don't know the circumstances and are in no position to be judging the actions of this person. They sound like they've been a foster parent to many animals and that is just great--better than just l
  22. I'm guessing they wouldn't want multiple members of the same family on the same fire call (granted, it could still happen if you're at different stations) just in case it turned out badly, such as the entire battalion suffering severe injuries or casualties. Didn't the military have something similar about not having all the sons in a family serve in the same unit--hence "Saving Private Ryan"?
  23. Born and raised in GA--frosting is the thick, fluffy stuff on top and the sides of the cake; icing is the thin, glaze-like stuff that's usually used for decorations and/or writing on the cake. Cookies, usually sugar cookies, will have icing on them to decorate them.
  24. A 401k isn't required at all, most employers offer it as a benefit to lure employees in, and matching contributions is an added bonus. Since I've been job searching the past 6 months I've seen many list 401k as a benefit, but many don't. I've seen a few only offer PTO and no other benefits at all (and still pay over $5/hour less).

    Why

The dad on Brady Bunch was an architect, yet 6 kids shared 2 bedrooms and the maid lived in the laundry room. Why is it a pineapple? It is neither pine nor apple. Hamburger--where's the ham? Why is Panda Express considered "gourmet" Chinese food?
