  1. You rock. Not the first time I've thought this, just thought you should know. If I didn't have my own financial emergency (funeral to get to) then I would have met her there in the morning. Hang in there, Soon-to-be-former-Mrs.-Metcalf. Prayers for you during this time. People here are amazing. This whole thread brightened my evening and I really needed to see this right now.
  2. Thanks everyone. There will be an autopsy(sp?) Monday. I went to bed around 1 am. About ten minutes later, I woke up all three of my kids and brought them to my bed. I cried all night. My heart hurts so bad, espically for his mom, dad and brother. It may sound funny for a 34 year old to say this about a 20 year old, but Ryan was my hero. He inspired me to start living my dream. This kid knew who he wanted to be from a very early age. He worked hard in school, taking welding classes all through high school because he wanted to be an underwater welder for the Navy, JUST like
  3. I'm sorry, I just feel the overwhelming need to put this somewhere. Ryan was the first baby I ever held. I was a sophmore in high school and he was so perfect! I was in college on his first day of kindergarten. My sister called me bawling about her little boy's first ride on the bus. We talked for two hours, I missed my class, and she cried the whole time about time passing too fast. A few weeks before I got married, I met them for a beach trip in Virginia. He was 10, my son is 9, and such a cute little kid that you couldn't help but constantly smile at him. He was funny, smart,
  4. Thank you so much. My sister really needs this right now, we all do.
  5. My handsome, amazing, vibrant, healthy, and incredibly smart nephew passed away today. He was a Navy diver in Guam and he was "off" today. He hit the beach with friends for some snorkling and never resurfaced. His friends found him quickly and they tried everything they could to save him, but he passed. PLEASE keep my sister and her husband, as well as his brother in your prayers. This is unthinkable right now, I almost don't really believe it. My sister is the most amazing mom I've ever known, he was the first baby I ever held, he was an amazing young man, so full of life and energy
  6. Please let us know what you find out. I'm willing to drive for them, if they service Paulding. My mom and I used to drive for them in Roswell/Marietta when I was in high school and college. This would be a great thing for the kids and I to do together.
  7. My friend's injury was similar, though not nearly as large, and he was at a lake in Alabama. He went to a Wellstar facility Monday morning and was told it was a spider bite. Went back by ambulance Monday evening in full seizure and was treated for staff. Tuesday afternoon, the one area on his leg spread up his thigh above the kneww. He and his family insisted on the bloodwork again and they immediately started him on antibiotics. He didn't tell me the specific name, but he said it was the same thing the girl in Carrollton had. He was released Friday, still in pain, but healing at home wi
  8. You don't sound crass, it's a legitimate question. How is Amiee blessed by suffering through such a horrible ordeal? Or anyone, for that matter? I don't go to church but not because I'm cynical about my faith, its because I don't fit well with the people who do attend. But I am a Christian, I witness to anyone who opens a door for me to, and I think you have a valid point about "blessings" and "suffering". The problem is, faith is misunderstood by us people. Though God is a Living entity and has a vested interest in our everyday lives, we do have power over our own destiny with this th
  9. Dr. Reisner at Egleston. Without details, he handled this hysterical mom with grace and ease. In fact just last year, another Dr. gave me a scare during our annual checkup. She had me in a panic! I called Dr. Reisner's office and they had me in within the week. Luckily, it was nothing. And yes, I know it's our history that got us in so fast that time. Good luck to you. It's a horrible feeling to know something's wrong and then have to wait for the MRI or CT.
  10. Thanks for clearing it up, Dis. I had to go back to Feb. 25's search record to find it. The original story I read confused the fact that it was a man on his way home to his wife and kids with the victims being the wife and kids. Like I said, it was weeks ago and apparently, the story's been updated since then. At the time I saw it there were only a few comments, now there's 60+ pages of comments. Still disturbing video and does drive home the point about distracted driving.
  11. Yes, this was fatal. A little online research and you'll find out it happened overseas, I want to say southern Russia. It was a mother and her two small daughters. From all the reports I read, they only found the mother's leg, the rest of the bodies were not recoverable. I saw this a few weeks ago when it first happened and I've thought about that mom and her babies ever since. As soon as I clicked on the link and saw the snow, I knew it was the truck video. Those images will haunt me.
  12. Look into "Babies Can't Wait", it's a free program for children under three.
  13. This breaks my heart when I hear it. When one asks why I'm so mean to them and not the others, but they don't listen when I explain why. The other thing i forgot to say was that my main connection with your story was the discpline being taken as a joke and the fact that "no" does not compute. My son has taken to screaming at me when I say "no", which is embarrassing even at home because he's old enough and mentally capable enough to understand why I said no.
  14. Edited because apparently my situation doesn't relate, although I feel it does on many levels (though not nearly as extreme.) I read the other responses after talking to my aunt who is a child psycotherapist in another state. She works with children who have severe issues, many of whom have already been placed in the group home enviroment. When I read her your post, she said first of all, you are a proactive parent who is doing all the "right" things. Secondly, her recommendation is similar to the others in the suggestion to seek therapy for him individually and the family as a whole b
  15. Of course! This is where the tunnels go, not DC! That was just the cover story so the politicians would think they'd be saved.
  16. I went right at noon on Sunday and at 12:30 today and both times was in and out. Today, I ran in for milk and more strawberries and was out in 6 minutes. Just because there are cars, doesn't mean it's that busy.
  17. That is hilarious! I added it to my insant que in the last few days. Everytime I see it I have a similar thought.
  18. With all our transportation issues, my husband moved in with a family member on the bus line in Marietta (also 4 miles from work). For YEARS! I've been yelling at him at the extended showers he takes. I'm the woman and I'm in and out in ten minutes. Twenty minutes is a luxury for me. (I'm also done "primping" in a total of 30 mins. from start of shower...let's just say I have to wait on him A LOT). My husband's idea of a short shower is a full half hour. Most days its 45 minutes or until I literally open the door and yell at him. Which gets an eye roll but he gets out. He had a back
  19. Thanks Mrs. G! I already talked to him this morning and we both said the same thing. Plus, if it happened when I was alone, I honestly would have wondered....but I saw his face. He turned as red as my van! He could NOT believe it happened! Then got mad when I started laughing! I didn't know what else to do!
  20. So yesterday morning I was REALLY upset about my van. REALLY upset. I don't know how I managed to censor myself, but I really wanted to go off. (Yeah, yeah, some of you thought i was mean enough) So here's the update: (By the way...I did tell Mike the Mechanic about my post, so more later) We talked to another mechanic yesterday morning who gave us instructions on how to track down the van and which wrecker to call. So my hubby gets to the shop to find Mike the Mechanic actually working on the van. True, he just started the install, but he was there Sunday morning and said he wasn't
  21. I know! I feel "prepared" but still mad at myself for reading it!
  22. I JUST read that. It bothers me that I know in advance, and who it is. GRRRR.
  23. Where YOU there? Because I did read the article, watched the story, and it sure didn't sound like he "fell". I like your spin on it though. Makes the thread entertaining, otherwise, there's no "news" about a fight at a dive like Hiram Station. ETA: Am praying for the guy, though. I do hope he pulls through. And stops drinking.
  24. Prayers for this man and his family. Hope he makes it home safely and soon.
