  1. Yeah! So glad you found a unit that will work for you . Honey, you don't even have to explain about the parental control. I homeschooled for 12 years. I read ahead of time, watched with, was SO careful about anything that my kids saw or touched. I completely understand. I have good kids too . It's called being a 'parent' . I hope your child enjoys their e-Reader!
  2. True that . I was shocked to see when I research that my (almost) same model touch screen Sony now comes with wifi. Mine was almost 300.00 when it came out, now it's 100.00 cheaper and has wifi . I think Susan has an older Kindle that doesn't surf the internet...and is still new in the box. She's afraid if she touches it too much she will be a convert, so you might want to ask her if she would want to sell that one.
  3. I'm smooching your cheek right now, can you feel it???
  4. At Susan...and a little bit of . Mariposa, a Techie friend just told me you can set up parental control on your WiFi router. I have no idea how, but that would certainly solve your issue .
  5. I see what you are saying...I just double checked on the Sony site and it appears that the touch screen model that I have has been amped up to include wi-fi. Darn, I thought I could help... Since my youngest child is almost 23 the parental control thing just never occurred to me. Like you, I find it hard to believe that there is no model that would not allow you to have some control over what your child is allowed to view??? Perhaps you could call Sony, and find if there is anyway to do that manually on your unit...or Barnes and Noble. Good luck in your search, and if you don't mind
  6. P.S the reason I ask is that I have the Sony Touch-Screen Reader. My kids bought it for me 2 years ago for my 43rd birthday. Mine is not wi-fi enabled, but it is an awesome reader, it does have the touch screen, there is a drawing tablet in it with stylus. If I am reading and come across a word I need clarification on, I 'double tap' that word and a dictionary definition with that word, it's origin, etc. pops up. I love my reader . The one I have is also now about 100.00 cheaper than it was when it first came out. You can go to Best Buy (where mine came from) and see the different
  7. I totally agree about the parental controls. My 'not being threatened' comment was more geared to my friend Susan who has a total freak-out at the thought of e-Readers, anytime . Is a Reader without the internet browsing capability out of the question for you?
  8. I say anything you can get that encourages your child to read more, is a good investment. I'm not threatened even the least little bit by e-Readers . I think the technology is awesome, and they are a terrific accessory for those of us who are voracious readers. I personally have read three books in the last 3 days, and one of them was on my reader .
  9. Damn! I missed you . I'm only there Monday and Tuesday, half day Wednesday. My daughter Britaini is there the rest of the time. You could have introduced yourself to her, and she would known who you are...she doesn't post much (except for the Bookworm) but she does lurk a bit . If I'd known you were coming in I would have run up there anyway . I'm glad we had the books that you were looking for . HAHAHA, we posted at the same time, lol.
  10. Where's the puke icon...wait, this one works too.
  11. Oh, yes. Yes we do...what age range are you looking for?
  12. Yep, that. PLUS a Kindle Fire .
  13. WOOHOO! I look forward to seeing you at the store . Also YEAH, for your Brittney...what an AWESOME opportunity for her to work on her Masters in Scotland. I know you must be very proud . I'm pretty darned proud of my Britaini as well...must be something about that name .
  14. BlondieGal, I think you meant Friday sunset to Saturday sunset. Jews don't observe anything on Sunday . I always thought it was amusing how so many catholics and protestants will refuse to work on Sunday but don't hesitate to fill up the WalMart and various and sundry restaurants as soon as they rush from the church house. Again, hypocrisy abounds.
  15. I support this person (in spirit) and no... I nor anyone in my family patronize any business on Thanksgiving. Specifically because I think they should be closed. I try to keep my hypocrisy to a minimum.
  16. I have the Sony Reader Touch Screen. I got it almost 2 years ago for my 43rd birthday. LOVE it! I am one of those 'purists' you speak of ...the e-Reader is an awesome accessory for a true bibliophile, never a replacement. It is especially helpful for those of us with poor eyesight, because the ability to increase the font is so handy. I do have the Kindle Fire on my wishlist for Christmas, but really for the tablet like aspect of it, more than the reading. Also with the Sony reader I can access e-books from multiple sources as opposed to reduced amount on the Kindle. On the other hand
  17. Okay girlfriend, I am crossing my fingers for you . If you get one and I don't...you HAVE to bring it up to the store so I can ogle it. I promise I won't drown it in my tears .
  18. My son only wanted the new 'Skyrim' for his X-Box. My daughter didn't specify much at all but dropped a few hints about some things, and I always kind of know how she is leaning anyway . My husband requested things for his gun collection (do-able) and a 'Wild Turkey' bar mirror (not happening ). I asked for one thing, and only one thing...the new Kindle Fire. I'm thinking it isn't going to happen but it doesn't change my wants, lol.
  19. + 1 to counter the negative you were given. Most people don't appreciate their hypocrisy pointed out to them.
  20. There are actually restrictions up to the age of 17. Here's a link that will help you...as long as he/she is at least 14 and it is a non-school day 8 hours is legal. http://www.dol.state...rms/dol4111.pdf Just copy and paste into your browser. P.S...Not before 7:00am or after 7:00 pm, if the child is 14 or 15 .
  21. Popeyes is my favorite chicken place !!!!! But on the healthier side, because it is dangerous for me to walk into a Popeye's, lol... I would love to see a Jason's Deli .
  22. Yes we do, in our Christian Fiction area. It's actually one of our largest fiction sections...so much to choose from. If you can think of a specific author you are interested in just give a call (or post here) and we will check the shelves and or hold the book for you . I'll be in the store today and tomorrow, btw ! We thank you .
  23. Not sure if you will find the information you need here but... Lord of the Rings online forum Many times with something like this, that would have an appeal to a certain group of people it's hard to find the actual 'value' in anything other than the community of people who are interested in it specifically. As an example, I have a fairly large collection of limited, numbered and lettered signed copies of some of my favorite authors. Because they are considered 'mid-listers' and not bestsellers (like Stephen King) they don't have much value to the book collecting community at lar
