  1. That was exactly what I was thinking, too. Several years ago I knew a CPA who could not even prepare her own tax return because tax law was not something she worked with and was not familiar with. She graduated summa cum laude from Georgia State, passed the CPA licensing exam with flying colors, worked in the accounting department of a major insurance carrier but knew nothing more about taxes than she had learned in college in her accounting classes. So, as you can see, not all CPAs are familiar with, or practice, tax preparation.
  2. I helped my daughter and son in law find a minivan in 2008. Found it on Craigslist. E-mailed the owner back and forth for over a week. Daughter and son in law went to look at it. They didn't drive it but did crank it, went through the gears and everything. Seemed fine. Reasonably good reason people were selling it. Carfax checked out with no real problems. There was a long gap in titles being issued but there were no indications of problems and mileage seemed reasonable. They had the van about two days when SIL went to have emission inspection done so he could get the tag. Passed emi
  3. Ain't no way in you-know-where I'd do that. After having done car title research when my hubby was getting ready to buy a new vehicle, I would never EVER buy a used car from an individual (or a dealer) without seeing the title in THE SELLER's NAME first.
  4. everyone at my daughter's shower had a blast playing something like "find the pin in the rice". Take a couple of pounds of plain white rice (not quick cook but regular). Dump into a bowl and add a package of tiny, brass safety pins. Pass the bowl around, blindfold the "contestant". Whoever finds the most safety pins in say, a minute, wins a prize. It is much, MUCH harder than it sounds. But a fun game.
  5. My aunt apparently found out about this little issue several years ago and had all her heirs pick out an item of personal property that was to be theirs. She had each person's name placed ON the item and had it written to be included with her will. I told her when we did this, probably in 2004, that I was in no hurry to get that lamp from her. Thankfully, she has stayed around. She will be 105 in May. I'm still in no hurry to get that lamp.
  6. Well, I got good news today. Most of my lab work was much better than it was just a month ago with only one of the two liver enzyme levels being elevated. I am still to have the ultrasound next week but unless that shows gallstones, I won't need to go to the surgeon, not yet at least. I am feeling better than I have since Sunday morning and even got out for a little while and ran errands (hubby drove though). I have eaten more today than yesterday and Monday combined. Stomach is queasy, though. And I just hope someone got the tag number for that horse that ran through my ho
  7. My oldest nephew was almost five when I was born. Yep, you read that right. He's almost five years OLDER than me--his aunt. My next nephew is 9 months younger than I am. My oldest brother is only about 3 years younger than my mother in law. Growing up, my parents were the ages that most of my friends grandparents were and my oldest brother and sister were the age most of my friends parents were. Primary reason I didn't want to have any more kids after I turned 30.
  8. My daughter and son in law have it. They got it almost a year ago and have had minimal problems. The primary problem they had was using a cordless phone that was poor quality. Once they located a better phone, they haven't had any problems. It worked great when they called 911 when she went to the hospital in labor. Only problem they had with that was not a Majic Jack issue but a Cobb 911 dispatch problem sending fire truck thinking it was fire emergency and not medical and the ambulance being delayed a couple of minutes. Fire truck got there within a minute or so, and ambulance in about
  9. felt like getting kicked in the back by a horse, someone with pointy toe shoes or like someone stabbing me with a knife.
  10. For real??? That right there would be reason enough to have my gallbladder removed. My acid reflux had gotten bad about a year ago but has been minor since that. When the nurse asked me yesterday what I ate before the pain started on Sunday, I told her a bagel and cream cheese. She grinned and said "well, that is unusual." Apparently bagels and cream cheese aren't big gallbladder attack starters. Pain is better this afternoon but I have a lot of tenderness. Upper abdomen still has a good deal of pain and area around my waist in the back. I'm beginning to think that back pai
  11. Feeling a little bit better this morning. The pain meds I took really helped. Pain is at a tolerable level now. I do feel very weak but I have eaten almost nothing since lunch on Sunday.
  12. Thanks Nick. AT least I don't have shingles, too. For that I'm grateful. But to update everyone. I was in for a shock at the doctor's office. Diagnosis was definite kidney stones and probable gallstones. Given antibiotics and pain meds, blood taken to check my liver enzymes and scheduled for an ultrasound on the 24th. If gallstones are present and liver enzymes are elevated, I will be going to a surgeon for removal of my gallbladder. But thank goodness for pain meds. I have gotten partial relief of the pain and hope to sleep tonight. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts
  13. A bagel and cream cheese was breakfast yesterday. I guess the pain started about two hours later. I'd had something on Thursday night. Ate Chinese for lunch and then after supper (which I can't remember what I ate), couldn't stay out of the bathroom. Since hubby and I ate exactly the same thing for lunch and supper, figured it wasn't the food. Then again Friday night after eating supper, couldn't stay out of the bathroom. Again, hubby and I ate the same thing during the day so I didn't think it was the food. My urine had been kinda dark last week but after drinking a 20 oz bo
  14. I wish I could eat. I have both the pain in my upper abdomen/mid back AND hunger pains. Nothing sounds good and even drinking Sprite or tea is a chore. Just a little over 2 hours until my appointment. I just hope they will give me something for the pain. A shot in the office would be great since my husband is taking me to the doctor. Now I'm wondering if gallstones are the reason my liver enzymes were elevated last month when I had blood work done. I'd had little twinges of something for probably a month or six weeks but not actual pain. Until yesterday. YIKES! It was li
  15. If what I have isn't gallstones, I don't recommend this either. Kinda thought they might want an ultrasound, which is fine and dandy with me. Probably was going to have to have one anyway. Gosh, I hope he prescribes pain pills this afternoon. Anything to get some relief. Wow! Back to work in four or five days after surgery. That's awesome. I probably won't go to Kennestone, since it is out of way for us. If Parkway Hospital was still there, that's where I would want to go. Do they do surgery if it is your first attack? Now really isn't a good time for me
  16. It would shock me if the doctor told me this afternoon that I DID NOT have gallstones. All symptoms I am having point to that. Never been through this before, so I am clueless about what to expect. What can I expect when I go to the doctor? Will he put me on medicine to break them up? Send me for a CT scan or ultrasound? Want to send me to a GI doc for surgery? And prayers please. I'm in extreme pain (have to be for me to WANT to go to the doctor).
  17. Hubby and I walked out and filled up the feeder on Friday evening. Saw quite a few birds around it today.
  18. Small world. Hubby was on I-20 heading back to Powder Springs from Augusta TODAY. He saw someone get pulled over while we were on the phone. He was over somewhere near Lake Oconee at the time.
  19. Hubby got a speeding ticket in Cobb, down near Six Flags, last spring. He probably was speeding but the thing about it was the car in front of him was pulling away from him, so they were going faster but HE got stopped. Of course, he was the one in the red sports car in that neighborhood and not the other car. He went to court about it, had the speed reduced so no points would go on him and paid the $141 for the ticket. He could have paid the ticket early, which would have still been $141, but they would have put points on him. Neighbor got a speeding ticket on 278 (in Austell) se
  20. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to when the refunds are sent out. In the rare years that we have gotten refunds from both, the state generally has come in first. If you got your federal last Friday, you should get the state any day now.
  21. We were watching that over the weekend and I told my hubby about the captain. So sad. So young!
  22. Let me know when and I will donate a pint for you if needed. I should be able to by that time. If I can't, my hubby can do it.
  23. Several years ago my husband was having strange, off-the-wall muscle pains. The doctor tried him on Cymbalta and it helped. He hasn't had a problem with the pains since even though he stopped the Cymbalta after about two months. The doctor really thought he had fibro but if he did, it got better. I think he was just having a physical manifestation of depression. Whatever he had, the pains stopped. I have heard and read about how great Cymbalta is. So very glad it works for you. My SIL has fibro (along with CMV and a host of other conditions). I know from talking with her that fibro
  24. People typically describe restless legs syndrome (RLS) symptoms as unpleasant sensations in their calves, thighs, feet or arms, often expressed as: ■Crawling ■Tingling ■Cramping ■Creeping ■Pulling ■Painful ■Electric ■Tense ■Uncomfortable ■Itchy ■Tugging ■Gnawing ■Aching ■Burning Sometimes the sensations seem to defy description. Affected people usually don't describe the condition as a muscle cramp or numbness. They do, however, consistently describe the desire to move or handle their legs. These symptoms are NOT the same as one has for muscle spasms in their legs.
  25. Have your iron level checked. High levels of iron are associated with RLS as well as a host of other problems.
