  1. We had a VERY strange problem with our TV last night. We were hearing both the regular sound track and the Spanish language sound track AT THE SAME TIME. Only on one show, though. It was very difficult to watch the show.
  2. The ONLY thing I like about my car is that it is paid for. Absolutely nothing else about it do I care for or about. I'd love to have something else. BUT, in the spirit of another thread, I will drive it in order to have health insurance.
  3. Honestly, I don't believe it would amount to a hill of beans.
  4. a termination "by mutual agreement" should have no effect on unemployment if it is a standard mutual agreement. Most that I looked at only mentioned things like lawsuits, return of business property, stuff like that. You can't agree to NOT be eligible for unemployment. You CAN agree not to file but should you agree to that and then file, whatever is on the separation notice would stand. The employer could say all day long that you "mutually agreed" to the separation but so what. I quit a job one time and the employer and I agreed that we couldn't wait to see my rear go out the door.
  5. IMO, crime scene photos, PARTICULARLY of a mutilated, nude body should fall under the medical privacy laws. Release of the photos publically does nothing except excite those whose twisted minds enjoy that kind of thing. Perhaps in that respect, the photos should fall under a pornography law. At any rate, ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY NO the photos should not be released to the public. If one wants them under the open records law, let each and every person who desires them to request them through legal means.
  6. I found this on Wiki: Termination by mutual agreement Some terminations occur as a result of mutual agreement between the employer and employee. When this happens, it is sometimes debatable if the termination was truly mutual. In many of these cases, it was originally the employer's wish for the employee to depart, but the employer offered the mutual termination agreement in order to soften the firing (as in a forced resignation). But there are also times when a termination date is agreed upon before the employment starts (as in an employment contract). Some types of termination by mu
  7. That sounds like they are trying to make it sound as though he quit even though he didn't nor did they fire him. They are closing the department and apparently just don't want to say so. If I were him I would ask if they would put a reason for the termination on the letter before signing anything. Again, it is really what they put on the separation notice that counts so he needs to know what they will say on that, too. BTW, if he does do the contract work, he can make more of the rules. They aren't supposed to have the power to set the wage for that, though most businesses who u
  8. I-20 west has seen two fatality accidents in three days, then. We were stuck in the backup from an accident on Thursday, just barely west of Thornton Road. There's a pretty good distance between exits if the driver got on going the wrong direction in Douglas County. Prayers to all involved.
  9. I've read the OP and most of the replies but I am confused. What kind of "mutual agreement" would, or could, apply to losing your job due to the department being closed? I know that one would not be eligible for unemployment if they refused a transfer to another department within the company or a job referral but otherwise, the "mutual agreement" part has me baffled. What could one do if they are faced with losing their job due to a department closure? Tell the employer "heck no, I won't go"? Virtually all job losses are by "mutual agreement" even when one party has no choice in the m
  10. The first I knew of him was in the movie "The Undefeated". He was a pretty good actor considering he was an athlete (most of whom I don't consider to be good actors). Seemed like a gentle man, too. It was kind of funny. We heard on the radio a little while ago about his passing and my husband looked at me and said "who's Merlin Olsen?" I had to tell him.
  11. For those of you on FB, there is a group called "In Loving Memory John Van Antwerp".
  12. I'm in a funk. Woke up with a headache, a long list of things to do and places to go today and lousy weather.
  13. I couldn't agree more! Must be why we get along like we do.
  14. I wish more people would learn what the healthcare proposals being discussed involve. While there is no firm bill yet, this is the ideal time to learn what is being discussed and making our voices known to our Congressvermin. I firmly believe that if a national healthcare bill is passed, REGARDLESS of what it involves, insurance companies will then be free to do whatever they want to do and will have the "government's" blessing to do it. At least the way things are now, if an insurance company screws over a customer, there is recourse. Anyone who believes the government can operate a

  16. He was one of our neighborhood kids. Parents still live in the house where he grew up. So sad that he is gone. Prayers for his family.
  17. I tell people that I'm the second and last wife and he is the first and last husband.
  18. I know what you mean. That has been issue with them about the incorrect business category. IF a customer used that to search for us, they would never in a million years find us. Big difference between "water" and "paper". We are in the paper industry, not the water industry. We got a LOT of mail for credit card machines when we first re-opened our business. I don't think I'd want to take a credit card charge for six figures. Oddly enough, NOW we get a lot of credit card OFFERS.
  19. I'd need a complete edit! Need to correct address AND type of business. Unlike computer repair or web design, our business doesn't fit into standard business categories. Let me know if it updates for you. If so, I might give it a try. Now they are telling me the information "could" have come from a yellow page listing (which we don't have). But they did also say it could have come from Google or other search engines. The bad thing about that is if they had gotten it from one of those, the correct information would be there!
  20. OK, I'm admittedly NOT a website geek BUT if we are in search engines, wouldn't the information that CitySearch (or anyone else) gets be what WE have put on the website, i.e., correct information? Not likely we are listed with any of the partner sites because our business isn't the type that would be listed there. As I said earlier, we do business-to-business sales and service to one particular industry and don't sell anything to the general public. There is no reason for us to be listed in a city directory as our customers are generally out of state but might look for us by industry.
  21. I actually wouldn't have minded correcting the information had they been NICE. But to tell me they use "public information and have the right" to use it rubbed me the wrong way. If they used "public information" they would have gotten it CORRECT. I thought the site looked more like a restaurant/bar guide than a business guide, especially for a business-to-business company like we have. We don't deal with the general public at all.
  22. Any affair makes me think of the line "let's don't and say we did". I'm with you, too exhausting to even think about. Besides, I had three pretty good acquaintances whose husbands had affairs and then dumped them for the other woman. One of them knew her husband had been having multiple affairs but never thought he'd leave her for another woman. One of them had no idea it had happened. One of them knew he had but thought he had quit seeing the woman he ended up marrying. I've seen the hurt these things cause--cyber affairs or otherwise--and just couldn't do it to my hubby. I m
  23. The other night, I got bored so I Googled our business phone number. One of the things that came up was called "City Search" (citysearch.com I think). Anyway, they have our listing all wrong--completely WRONG category. Since we operate out of a spare bedroom, I strongly dislike the idea of my home address being available. That's part of the reason we went to the effort and cost to get a post office box and changed our business cards and changed our website. We KNOW people from around the world are looking at the website and I don't like the idea of someone in India knowing where we live,
  24. That's right! You can do it yourself. I did mine myself and also called to get it and they were the same!
