  1. I think the carpet replacement and hardwood refinishing would be taken as expenses in 2010, and not depreciated. Like I said, it's been several years since we had to do ours and I can't remember how we treated it. Where's Barbed Wire when you need her????
  2. Bacon is very good when you're on a low carb diet. Try one of the ready-to-eat bacons and boil an egg like the previous poster said and you're good to go. I have found that when I eat a high protein/low carb breakfast that I don't get hungry and sometimes have to force myself to eat something around lunch time or mid-afternoon.
  3. couldn't agree with you more. And a couple of my peeves: getting NO response from an employer when you send in your resume in response to a job listing. no mention of where the job is located in the job listing or ad. no mention of the pay in the ad but IF you get a response from the employer they tell you the job pays $8 an hour.
  4. Yes, new furnace is improvement (capital improvement) and is expensed over several years. I can't remember how many years but seems as though 5 years might be the length of time. Mine has been expensed out already but it's been there for several years. The trees are definitely repairs and maintenance. Questionable about the carpet and refinishing the hardwood floors. It's been several years since we did that, and I've slept since then, but seems as though if you just replace flooring it is considered maintenance and repair but if you go from one or the other (ripping out carpet and
  5. That's where I went. Great people. I saw too much of them early in the year, though. Mammogram, abdominal ultrasound and then abdominal MRI in less than four months! I had to wait TWO WEEKS for my appointment and I was in agony.
  6. Hubby and I both went to Doctor's Visionworks at Arbor Place. We will DEFINITELY go back, too. Whoever said the doctor they saw there didn't seem to know what they were doing must have seen a different one than we did. The one we saw was extremely thorough and a pleasure to talk with.
  7. You're scheduled TOMORROW??? I was having what the doctor thought was a full blown gallbladder attack along with a passing kidney stone and had to wait TWO WEEKS for the ultrasound!!!!!!! Where are you having the ultrasound done?
  8. I've gotten absolutely NO response from over 40 applications. No response at all. I have noticed that many office positions, even for entry level, require a degree and still pay $8-10 an hour! WTH?? Years ago when I was looking for a job, during the interview the doctor I was interviewing with took a picture of me. I was VERY uncomfortable with that. The spam isn't so bad. It's the telemarketing calls that bug the crap out of me. I've had to get downright nasty with a couple of them. There's probably been 300 that I could have applied for if I had been willing t
  9. Not only is Pcom free, it's PRICELESS! Best $29.95 I ever spent was on my membership. Getting to know Pubby and LPPT and some of the other "characters" at Pcom has been a wonderful experience, too.
  10. I asked myself that same question. It does make you go "hmmmmmmmmmmmm".
  11. I'm persistent. I know the right job is out there and maybe, just maybe will be coming very soon. I really can't complain about being jobless these past 11 months. Because I wasn't working I was able to see my granddaughter on ultrasound two months before she was born. I'm able to spend time with my daughter and my granddaughters on weekdays. I've been able to go with my husband for his doctor's appointments every month. We have also been able to go to Florida four or five times to look at and for houses. Can't complain too much and in fact, I feel blessed to have had those opportun
  12. as a matter of fact, I have worked at home before. Biggest reason I'm looking for out of the home now. But I have also considered Avon. Not a large "friend" base to sell to.
  13. I have cookies disabled and *sometimes* IE8 warns me that they are disabled and sometimes it doesn't. You might check that. I'm far from an Internet Explorer geek, though.
  14. My guesses (and that is all they are): cookies are not allowed and are needed privacy settings are too strict
  15. I have been unemployed for 11 months now. I can't begin to tell you how many job ads I have looked at in that time. I can tell you that I've sent resumes or applied for roughly 50 jobs in that time. What I can't believe is people placing job ads that do not mention AT ALL where the job is located. I live in Powder Springs and therefore would never consider even applying for a job in Alpharetta, especially not for $8-10 an hour. Why, oh why, can't the ad state 1) how much the pay is 2) what type of business and more importantly 3) where the job is located. I am not interested in
  16. that's what the police/sheriff's department is for. Let them do their job. Otherwise, you could be hindering the investigation or be charged with entrapment. "Their word against his word" would indicate more of a a civil matter while this is a criminal matter. YOU don't have to get proof of anything.
  17. 1. change son's cell phone number. These are not "friends" and don't need the number. 2. call police. ASK them to come to my house. 3. lock every lock EVERY time I go in or out. Definitely secure the door from the garage to the house and any that lead from outside. 4. place mousetrap in truck just behind some money. It if doesn't get their hand, it might scare the crap out of them.
  18. “I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.”
  19. Depends on my mood and the time of year. Margaritas (on the rocks, heavy on the salt) Screwdriver Kahlua and cream (and yes, cream not milk) Vodka Collins Rum and Coke Pina Colada Prefer the "lighter" ones--Margarita, screwdriver, vodka collins--in warm weather and the heavier ones in cold weather.
  20. My hubby has gotten more than one speeding ticket in Alabama. He used to drive I-65 and I-85 a lot and finally learned where they were likely to be.
  21. we had one who got behind in the rent. We worked with them as though they were our family and got them caught up. They were going to sign a lease extension and for some reason we couldn't do it one particular day. Took the lease to them a day or so later and they said they were moving. That weekend! So they move out. But it took me six weeks to get them to move the junk car they left behind! Bad thing is they moved around the corner! They could have almost pushed the car over there. The first tenants we had decided to separate about halfway through the lease. He left, she stayed.
  22. The first date with my hubby was to the Omni. There was a little bar there called Mimi's. We went there after Steak and Ale. He took me to the World of Sid and Marty Kroft, where he used to work.
  23. We went through there at the end of July and there were workers EVERYWHERE. What doesn't make sense to me is that in one area the trucks have to be in the right lane and in another area they have to be in the left lane. Confusing to say the least.
