  1. I can't remember for sure, but I think when the Racetrac station next to Staples opened in 1998 gas was about 79 cents a gallon. I remember I used to stop there and fill up before heading to Barnesville to pick up my daughter at college. LOL. I used to feed my family of five on less than $60 a week including everything! Now I can't feed my family of TWO on less than $100 not including everything.
  2. I was discussing churches and religion with my best friend yesterday. I told her that I was not non-denominational but was instead adenominational. But I do have a relationship and not a religion. My friend and I agreed that we can be ignored, hurt and demoralized without having to set foot in a church.
  3. Funny you should ask this. It hasn't been too terribly many years ago that dancing was not allowed within the city limits of Powder Springs. Seriously. I knew someone who owned a bar & grill and she wanted to have a dance floor but the city said absolutely not. That was probably the mid to late 1990s, and I think 1998. Until very, very recently the sale of diesel fuel was not allowed in the city limits of Powder Springs either. Hubby, DD and I were talking about this yesterday and marveling at how progessive our little town has become over the last few years.
  4. Between the arthritis I have and the arthritis my husband has, we're already there. What's a little yoga?
  5. I couldn't even do that when I was in my early 20s and weighed all of 118 pounds! Sure can't do that now at 55 and a few more pounds than that. I'm with Sugail. It just doesn't look natural. I am starting to do yoga for arthritis. Wish me luck with it. However, truthfully, I can't ever see me going to the First Baptist Church and assuming the lotus position during the sermon. I can't assume the lotus position NOW.
  6. I don't think it sounds like bashing. It sounds like the truth. Some of the worst hurt I ever had inflicted upon me was by "Christians". Not just Baptists, but those who attend a church with "Christian" in the name. According to them, it was OK for Jesus to forgive you. Just don't ask them to.
  7. Just ONE more reason I am glad I no longer consider myself a Southern Baptist.
  8. I don't know Dr. Pesson but know the doctors at Pinnacle are excellent orthopaedists. Among the best around, by far. Not surprising that you have no reflexes in your right leg, since you have a pinched nerve. Pain meds just mask the pain. Glad to hear about the PT. That will do wonders for you! I hope you have hot packs and ultrasound. Next best thing to a full body massage. I used to have hot packs and ultrasound when my upper back would have spasms. They were so relaxing. Definitely follow doctors orders about taking it easy. When I had my severe sciatica, I found that lyi
  9. If you can function while taking the pain meds, take them on a regular schedule and don't wait for the pain to be severe. They work a LOT better if you don't wait. My hubby took his pain meds when the pain got really bad and couldn't understand why it kept getting worse. When he started a scheduled dosing of pain meds, the pain got tolerable. Orthopaedist is probably going to send you for a CT scan or an MRI, prescribe steroids/pain meds and probably physical therapy. And you may STILL have the pain. If the CT scan/MRI is normal (or at least shows nothing severe) go to another chiropr
  10. I might add that daughter's middle child was not a planned C section though she went through HOURS and HOURS of labor but that kid was 3 weeks late. He just wasn't ready to be born. He has always run on his own timetable. Daughter's youngest child was a planned C section. Doctor didn't want the third one to be as large as the first two who were 8 1/2 pounds and 10 1/2 pounds at birth. Must have worked because #3 was only 9 1/2 pounds. She had some problems at birth but the neonatal staff was incredible!
  11. My middle daughter had two of her three kids at Northside. EVERYONE was great--from admitting to the floor nurses. I worked in the medical field in the past and I learned one BIG lesson. A life lesson, too. You get what you give. You give the nurses a hard time, you get a hard time. You give the nurses respect, you get respect in return. Fact of the matter is, you attract more butterflies with something sweet. Be nice to the hospital staff and I can just about guarantee they will be nice to you. You will DO FINE! Congratulations!
  12. When I had the sciatica-from-hell in 1996, had I not held on to my dresser when I got out of bed that first morning I would have fallen. Quite common to lose feeling in your leg with sciatica (depends on how badly the nerve is compressed).
  13. I agree with you 100%. HOURS to get to the house and yet HE and the other homeowners let it burn until it got there? HELLO! Where was the guy burning the grass all this time? You're supposed to have things available to put out the fire, such as water and shovels, in case it gets away from you. I accidently caught my backyard on fire one time. I did everything in my power to put it out before it got to any of the houses. Between me, two neighbor kids and my middle daughter, we got it put out and never needed the fire department, even though we had called them. Thank God we didn
  14. Oh absolutely! I felt about 85% better one day, about a week or two in, and then bam! back to feeling almost as bad as I did to start with. I had the unpleasant side effect of having a severely swollen ankle and foot, both of which exist to a degree even now, 14 years later.
  15. Believe me, I'm going to. My problem is when. For someone who doesn't work, I seem to never have any free time.
  16. I've met Frank. He isn't THAT clueless. Looks nice, too. I like what you've done.
  17. If you primarily are concerned about covering the kids, look into Peachcare (or whatever it may be called this year).
  18. I had actually come to this forum to see if you were still open. I am SOOOOOOOOOO glad you are! You have made my day!
  19. I was walking between my car and the wall of the garage when I knocked a can of Kilz off the shelf. It went EVERYWHERE including ON MY CAR. I cleaned it off the car as best I could (think rolls and rolls of paper towels). Marc Riley (Riley's Auto Detailing) can attest to the fact that I didn't get all of the Kilz off my car. Fortunately, our garage floor has epoxy paint on it so it wasn't a big deal to clean that up (again think rolls and rolls of paper towels).
  20. I remember very well when that happened. The post is correct--things like that just DID NOT happen in Atlanta back then. Atlanta was a very different place than it is now. I had an aunt who worked downtown at the time. Naturally my grandmother was afraid for my aunt's safety. So tragic that the Shotwell family never had closure for their daughter/sister and that Mr. Little never had closure for his new bride. I suspect that as long as I have one functioning brain cell left, I will remember this case.
  21. The very worst flare up of sciatica I ever had was in April 1996. It took five adjustments to take care of it. Even though it took five adjustments, I felt so much better after the first one that the difference was like night and day. I had a severely pinched sciatic nerve that time. The times since that that it has flared up usually one adjustment takes care of. When it is really bad, it takes two. Surgery is only helpful for certain conditions. Pinched nerves in the absence of a mechanical problem such as a herniated disk, would not be helped by surgery generally speaking. My hu
  22. I wholeheartedly agree we need better trauma care in the state of Georgia. Without a doubt. That said, the ad just irritates me. Several reasons: one, state troopers aren't going to be helping a victim out of a car accident unless they are the first responders and then probably not unless the person's life is in danger, like the vehicle is about to blow up. Two, the mother would certainly be taken to the hospital as well with the child because HELLO, they can't treat the child without the parent consenting to that. Three, in the first part of the ad, it does appear to be Georgia licen
  23. Our first date was Friday September 2, 1977. On Tuesday September 6 I went to work and told one of my co-workers that I would be marrying my weekend date. She thought I was joking. On Sunday March 7, 1978 he asked me to marry him. We got married three weeks later in a very tiny ceremony at the church I attended. We've been together ever since. Would I do it again? Yep with the exception of one thing. I would skip the church wedding and would have gotten married the day we got our license. I tell my hubby that he is my first, and last, husband. They get tougher to
  24. Once you go to the ER to find out there is nothing mechanical wrong with your spine, go to a chiropractor. I just about guarantee you will feel better quicker than with any pain meds, hot packs or PT. PM me if you want the name of a good chiropractor. Sciatica has been a way of life for me since 1996. When it flares up, I go to the chiropractor and generally one, maybe two, visits are all I need to get it taken care of.
