It was my son in law, not my sister in law. Sorry. SIL could be either. That IS the reason the woman worked there. Crappy insurance or great, apparently it was worth it to her. I can't remember what her other job was but it didn't even offer insurance, crappy or otherwise. Her other job was in the daytime, so she needed something at night and something that offered insurance. That left out anything with the school system, which is generally the best job for someone who needs little income but insurance. My SIL actually worked there twice. Depending on which store he was

To say servers aren't paid at least minimum wage is incorrect. They ARE paid minimum wage. I've seen servers who occasionally didn't make enough in tips to cover minimum wage stay in the job for a long time. Someone who works part-time and at a slow time of the day might not make $7.25/hour. Not necessarily because they aren't a good server either. Could just be their scheduled shift. When my daughter took a job at Huddle House they told her that she wouldn't make much money (barely minimum wage) because the tips weren't good on the third shift. Two weeks into it, the other servers

Minimum wage for servers is the same as it is for everyone else--$7.25 an hour. Restaurants (and bars and other establishments that qualify as "restaurants") only have to pay $2.13 an hour of that. HOWEVER, if the tips don't make up the difference between $2.13 an hour and $7.25 an hour (or whatever minimum wage is at the time), the restaurant HAS to pay minimum wage regardless.

They love the trains. They get to see the Crescent every day and once or twice a year the Ringling Brothers Circus train goes through town. BTW, you're not that far from my oldest daughter. She still lives on Hiram Sudie, where she moved all those years ago when you two were in high school. -

My youngest daughter lives in downtown Austell. They love living in a small town like that. If you're close to the police station, you're close to the train tracks, too. And congratulations on getting the house!! -

Maybe we should be looking for a house in Hiram. I thought they had city property taxes. If not, a big plus for moving to Hiram. -

Yes, you will. Probably not at the same time either. -
I used to record songs off the radio. But I've never knowingly used an expired coupon.

I like to think you're never too old for most things. That might be something some people ARE too old for.
-
That's what I like to see--someone taking personal responsibility for what's wrong around them.

I fully expect that in spite of the fact that the value of our house went down $22,000 since last year that our tax bill will increase. Thanks Cobb County! -
Grownups generally learned their financial beliefs as children. If they were given everything as children and never expected to work for it or to contribute to what they have, yes, they are likely to grow up to be deadbeats. Or feel they are "entitled" to everything everyone else has with little or no effort on their part. I have never felt right about not helping out in some way when I'm invited somewhere. I don't even like for someone to treat me to lunch without me doing something to show my appreciation by sharing some of the cost. I'll leave the tip if nothing else. It just doesn

If you are ASKED to send money with little Timmy so he can have extras and you don't send it, it is rude to expect that he can still have anything he wants. I'm not talking about asking the kid to pay for everything if you invite them. I am only saying that if you're TOLD to send money and you don't, that doesn't seem like a grateful recipient to me.
-
My kids stayed home if we couldn't afford to send at least some money when they were invited to go places with their friends. We never expected anyone else to pay for everything, even if they did the inviting. I guess my parents and my husband's parents all believed in paying your own way and taught us the same. Apparently this education has done well for us because we have two houses but no mortgage, three vehicles but no payment, two credit cards that are paid off each month and if we can't pay for it, we don't get it. Yep, we have done without. A lot. But we worked for everything
-
If I correctly recall the original post, she said she DID tell the parents if the kids needed money. In fact, she said THIS: "The conversation goes something like this, Bobby and I are going bowling on Monday, I have buy one game get one free, but Steve will need money for snacks also and anything extra he may want? Steve gets in the car the next day without a dime? " IMO, it IS rude not to send money with your kid when the person inviting them has said they need money for snacks and anything extra they might want. If I'm willing to pay for that kid to get whatever they want, then f

You misunderstand. I won't use a weapon to commit murder. I won't hesitate to protect myself or my loved ones either. You weren't at the shooting in question, so you don't have all the facts. Neither do I. I would imagine that the grand jury had a lot of facts, and opinions, before them. I seriously doubt they made their decision strictly based on what the victim's family attorney had to say nor did they base it strictly on the police report. I would have actually had a much more difficult time accepting their decision had they made the decision that the cop was not justified, the

My pistol would be for PROTECTION, not murder. People die every day for being stupid. It is STUPID to grab a cop's gun. Stupid, stupid, stupid. One thing we always told our girls when they were growing up was to respect cops. You don't mouth off to them, you don't try to flirt with them to get out of a ticket and you never insult them. Apparently some people don't teach their kids to respect cops but instead seem to teach them that cops are fair game.

Ours is on the side of the garage, so no shot gun for us.

I don't know about you TP but if I were a cop trying to arrest a guy and he pulls MY gun from MY holster and tries to attack ME, the thug doesn't deserve a trial. I hate to tell you TP but there are a lot of people in the world who believe it is their RIGHT to protect themselves. There are also a lot of people in the world who believe if you're a criminal who is trying to escape prosecution, whether it be by arrest or by a trial, that you're a criminal regardless of your color or your age. The kid was a criminal. He was trying to do harm to a sworn police officer. I hope and pray that my

AGAIN, what does ethics in state government have to do with an INDEPENDENT GRAND JURY and their findings? Nothing, nada, zip, zilch.
-
EXACTLY what does governmental ethics have to do with a grand jury investigation? A grand jury is compromised of ORDINARY citizens such as yourself and me and Feelip and SurePip and Powder Springs Dad and Pubby and LPPT and Beach Bum and IvyLove and any others who have ever LIVED in an area. A grand jury has NOTHING to gain if a case is found to be without merit and nothing to gain if it is. It is by it's very being IMPARTIAL. I really wish you'd stop throwing out ethics with every single post. If you're that unhappy with the ethics in Georgia, may I suggest a move to Illinois (pa

Where were all you generous people who didn't mind paying for another kid's day out when my kids were at home and often AT HOME because we couldn't afford to send money for them to go places with their friends? We NEVER allowed our kids to go anywhere without some money, even if the other kids parents said they didn't need it. Just plain RUDE to EXPECT someone else to pay. Sorry, that's just how we were brought up--you paid your own way or you didn't go.

I found it takes about 3 days to thaw them. Even then, the inside is going to be slushy/frozen and needs to be thawed under COLD running water before cooking. I cook them immediately upon thawing though it would likely be fine to wait a day.

Al in particular never passes up an opportunity to get his name in the news. Jesse is just about as bad. So, yeah, they will be protesting. If they can tear themselves away from south Florida long enough. Maybe now that summer has set in and it's hot as blue blazes down there.
