  1. A phone interview basically means when she applied and showed her paychecks and utility bills, that there was not a case worker available. It will be a caseworker who will do the phone interview.
  2. It is NOT the President's job to create jobs. That is the job of business and industry. It is NOT the President's job to make sure people pay for their houses. That is the job of the people who have agreed to pay for those houses. I agree with Papi.
  3. I guess I am no one because I bothered to actually read the article in question. I did learn something about the alleged origin of "hold down the fort". That's what I understood it meant.
  4. Geez. You're asking me which camera I got. I have no clue. OK, it is the Fujifilm FinePix. I'll be by on Friday, so if there is still one that will fit it, I'll get it. If not, it will be like my other camera and not have a case.
  5. I could use a camera case. And a cover for a Nexus phone.
  6. I was born at Kennestone. At the time of my birth my parents lived in Smyrna, where my mom lived until the day she went to the hospital and never came back. I lived in that house until I got married, at which time I moved to Mableton and then nine months later to Powder Springs where I still live, 34 years later. All of my daughters were born at Cobb Hospital, as where six of my nine grandchildren. I am a third generation Cobb County native and every one of my grandparents were Georgia natives. I'm proud to be from Georgia. Can't wait to move to Florida, but that's not because I'm not pr
  7. ABSOLUTELY!! You pay for that phone, you pay for your house and these people--ANYONE, even family if they don't live in your house--are your GUESTS and should only be invited in if YOU want them there. My husband and I have no use for his mother and sister. His sister called last week. THREE times in one afternoon and then proceeded to leave a snarky wall post on my FB page saying "I guess you couldn't pick up for some reason". Well, yes, there was a reason. I WASN'T AT HOME! Hubby had his own reason for not picking up but he rarely answers the phone anyway unless he's standing next
  8. My daughter went through a Goth period. She had people come to the house ONCE and never again. She would see them walking down the street and they would actually cross the street so they wouldn't be close to her house!
  9. I don't think I've been there since the mid 1990s. Didn't see a lot of the town. It was a fast trip for my husband to work in a paper mill. I do remember the Holiday Inn was very nice and had an indoor/outdoor pool.
  10. Greenville, South Carolina huh? You could have spent the weekend in Greenville, Alabama. Of the two, if I have to spend any length of time, I'm not sure which one I would rather be in.
  11. That must have been one hell of a pre-nup if he has to sell the house that he owned before they married.
  12. I just wanna know if a woman comes in and buys her own diamond if she gets the hunting rifle. Might be a good way to do Christmas shopping.
  13. I don't go to the door if I don't know the person. On the rare occasions that I open it expecting a neighbor and it is one of the church people, they generally leave fairly quickly once they see I'm white. Seriously. I think that stumps them. Just tell them you have a Bible and a home church and close the door. Doesn't matter if you do or not.
  14. We both were fans of his. He will be missed. Loved his voice!
  15. Me thinks copy and paste leaves no room for error. However, everyone will think what they want to think. That's what I want. Every one can read the information, decide if it's valid and make their own decision. Make three of us.

  18. I guess I need to start telling my clients that they are better off than they were four years ago in spite of what they see going on around them. Obviously, business owners don't know how things are.
  19. I understand what you're saying. You make plans and then something happens and you have a 180 degree turn coming up that you didn't expect. Four years ago we were planning for my husband to keep working until he turns 65 because he LOVED what he was doing. We figured in eight years we could save enough to pay for our granddaughter's college education. Our business was going gangbusters. He was turning down work if the customers wouldn't pay him what he charged or he simply didn't want to deal with that particular customer (one couldn't pay him enough to return). Then in early 2009 he
  20. We definitely control our lives but others control our economy and therefore, our finances and our future. Hubby and I made a choice to invest in real estate. Banks, mortgage companies, developers, real estate agents and homebuyers made a choice to get while the getting was good and left everyone holding the bag. NINJA loans were the beginning of the downfall of the real estate market. It should be OBVIOUS that if someone doesn't make enough money to pay the mortgage that they *might* have trouble doing so. Then again, the banks and mortgage companies in many cases COULD NOT ask for d
  21. I think a lot of the perception of how well we're doing depends on our age and where we are in our lives. The 30-something and the 40-somethings seem to perceive things are better, while those of us in their late 50s and early 60s see things are not as well. Those of us in that age group don't have the time to wait for the economy to turn around. If it takes 10-15 years for a complete turn around, many of us won't be here to see it. Of course, some of those who are in their 30s and 40s now may not be either, but they have a different perception of time than us old farts do. We have g
  22. Traditionally, real estate has done nothing but go up. It's always been a good investment. We didn't buy the house in 1978 for retirement but we are now looking at retirement. Many people our age have no investment to fall back on. Thankfully WE DO. We don't have to rely on my husband's Social Security check and my meager self employment earnings. We worked hard and saved more than we spent. Now, we can't seem to save even a dollar. Just when I think we got the monthly bills covered with our income, the price of something goes up and leaves us less and less to save, if anything!
  23. Not your fault certainly but it should concern you. Your future home value and financial future is impacted greatly by foreclosures. If you don't believe that, you need to be fully cognizant of how the world around you impacts you. I hate the fact that my financial future depends to a large degree on what OTHERS do. I can be frugal until the cows come home but if two of my neighbors can't pay for their houses, the lost values impact MY home value and my future. Perhaps younger people don't see it that way as much because they are in a different place in their lives. Our first time hav
