  1. That and holding onto the property seems to be what the company he just hired in is doing. I have a friend who installs xray equipment. He has customers telling him every single day that they are holding off on doing more than repairs to existing equipment right now. And some doctors are saying they won't be buying anything because they will be closing their doors.
  2. How sad. Maybe this is why we're in the shape we are. Nobody gives a damn about how anyone else is doing as long as they are doing fine. My mama didn't raise me that way.
  3. The company where my son in law recently was hired has said they have property sitting waiting for them to build stores but will hold the property if Obama is re-elected.
  4. So, you're not worried about how others will be doing because you'll be doing great?
  5. We worked hard. Always. Often seven days a week when we had our own business. Put money away. Paid cash for cars. Paid for house. Bought rental house for cash. Have ZERO debt except for monthly utility bills, insurance, taxes, food. Those are paid for at the time we purchase them. The decline in the real estate market is not our doing. Our property is paid for. But rental house bought in 2001 is now worth about 40% of what we paid for it (never mind what we have put into it bringing it into the 21st century) and if house bought in 1978 continues to decline it will soon again be w
  6. You're also not looking at living on two small Social Security checks a month within the next 4 years.
  7. In 2009, our tax appraisal was $127,190 for a 1800 sq ft house on half acre lot. We had consistently upgraded the house from the original 1596 sq ft by adding a sunroom with more than 200 sq ft, a 25 x 25 detached garage, 50 x 50 concrete pad in the back, side driveway, double pane insulated windows, high grade vinyl siding with additional insulation. In 2010, our tax appraisal was $115,780. In 2011, our tax appraisal was $84,560. This year, our tax appraisal was $62,640. This was thanks to the THREE foreclosures across the street in 2011 and the numerous ones down the street g
  8. Taking out the personal aspect of my husband having to retire in 2010 and the issues surrounding that and me having lost my job of 15 years in 2009 due to the slowdown in the economy, particularly where housing is concerned in Paulding, the answer is a resounding HELL NO. Our house has lost almost half of its value. Fortunately, it is paid for but unfortunately, it was our "retirement account". Our rental house was bringing in money four years ago and now it's not. Even taking out the aspect of it being occupied by our daughter, we are in worse shape with it than we were four years a
  9. Hubby and I talked about this today. We decided that he would take over the task of touching it up and then we would use NAILS to hang the pictures. Tiny holes to cover later but at least nails won't pull off the paint or the drywall. So I go into the bathroom to remove the hanger next to the picture that fell yesterday. IT IS STUCK and will not come off. The little pull tab to remove it pulled loose but the hanger is stuck like glue to the wall. I'm thinking a picture will go there after all and then we use nails to hang the other two pictures. Or like Anonymoose said, get anot
  10. When one has to rely on information from others without having first hand knowledge to refute or confirm, one sometimes "lies". Been there, done that.
  11. Maybe if the corporate tax structure was less restrictive in the US more corporations would keep their money here. Just a thought. Maybe if American banks were a little less like bank robbery and a little more stable, not to mention friendlier to their customers. Just a thought.
  12. So Bush's cronies were raking in the money was the reason gas prices were so high a few years ago, before Obama? What's the reason now? Is it because they can get away with it? Just like they could back then? No business is too big to fail. None. Not if it means bringing the country down with it. If we have to choose between letting a big business fail alone or pulling down the country, let the business fail. No question. Small businesses fail all the time. All big businesses were small businesses at some point. Romney can't raise taxes anymore than Bush, or Obama for that mat
  13. I have never supported a President 100%. None of them. They all make mistakes and bad decisions because contrary to what a lot of the public would like to believe, they ARE human. We are seeing things now out of desperation. This nation DESPERATELY wanted a change. Well, we got it, folks. Happy with it? I'm sure not. My neighbor who was an Obama supporter in 2008 isn't happy about it either. He's almost out of hope and is hoping for a change. I have long admired Romney. He's a savvy businessman. I just wish he had gotten the nomination in 2008. What BACK AT WAR? When d
  14. We know that. When it is going to be Obama's fault, though? High gas prices aren't his fault. High unemployment isn't his fault. High foreclosure rate isn't his fault. Illegal immigration isn't his fault. Wonder if his kids are his fault? The man doesn't seem to have any responsibility for anything, real or imagined.
  15. Congress passes the laws, too.
  16. Obama has brought the world's greatest nation to its knees but you're telling us it was a Republican.
  17. I'd check the expiration date and if it's in the past, I'd use them quickly or toss them, whichever you prefer. However, they should still be good. I have a bottle of oregano that my mom bought years and years and years ago. I have no idea if it still has much taste to it, but it still smells heavenly so I keep it mostly for sentimental reasons. When I inherited my mom's spice rack, all the bottles were full. I still have a little bit of a couple of them in there. The stopper bottles have stayed closed and it has stayed in a dark closet. I occasionally use some of the spices lef
  18. Crap!! I thought Obama was a Democrat! Now you're telling me he isn't!!
  19. So are my memory and my money.
  20. Making my list. Checking it twice.
  21. I think it's something in the water over here. I've done that, too.
  22. It's a place about the size of a square of Scotch tape. Maybe a bit smaller. I'm thinking touch up, hang picture (in a week) and let the next person worry with repainting the whole wall, which by the way is about 4 feet wide by whatever is standard wall height.
