  1. If I do Mapquest directions from my house to Home Depot in Lithia Springs, right at I-20, it tells me to go to 278, turn right and then when I get to Humphries Hill to turn right and take a street that doesn't go anywhere and I'm not sure it even exists any longer, turn left on Bankhead (Veteran's Memorial) and then right onto Thornton Road. And I just did directions on Home Depot's site from my house to that store. WHY would I make a U-turn when it's on the right as I'm heading toward I-20?
  2. About 10 or 12 years ago I was going to a seminar down near the airport. I downloaded driving directions and had them in the seat next to me. Everything was going great. Turn left, turn right, go to College Park and take a left on Willingham Drive. I drove all the way to Roosevelt Highway THREE times looking for the left turn off Main St in College Park onto Willingham. Turned out it turned to the right and not the left. Once I got on the right road, it was a piece of cake getting there because the directions were 100% accurate OTHER than that. I had to keep telling myself the same thin
  3. I have a friend who was driving up in TN one day to work. He started thinking about something and the next thing he knew he was 30 something miles from the exit he was supposed to have taken. It wasn't like he had never been there before either. It's a regular customer of his and he's been going there for 15 years. Just totally missed the exit. And he wasn't on anything. Just lost in thought.
  4. I HATE electronic medical records. I have found far too many errors in mine and my husband's already. There seems to be no standard protocol for correcting them either. So, my husband's medical record says "mixed hyperlipidemia" in spite of the fact that he has never once had elevated cholesterol or triglyceride levels on a blood test.
  5. Oh my. Reminds me of my sister in law. She was trying to get to my house, just off 278 between Hiram and Austell. Literally, just off 278, too. She ended up in Alabama. This was long before GPS.
  6. Sure you can. Cook some rice to have with them and call me when it's ready. I LOVE barbecued chicken cooked in a crockpot. Try boneless (or even bone-in) pork chops that way, too. Yummy. And call me when they're ready, too.
  7. Having done some online courses the last couple of years, I can't see me ever sitting in a classroom to learn what I can learn online. If you pick up on it faster, you can move along faster and get done. If you need a little extra time, you can take a little extra time. Most online courses have pretty good access to the instructor and other students so you can ask questions just as you would in a classroom. Check out ed2go and coursera.org. Both have great online courses. I am finishing up two on ed2go this week, start one more on Wednesday and start two on Coursera in two weeks.
  8. Oh gawd! I know what you mean. I don't do math.
  9. I totally recommend it, too! I joined so I could sell a car, which I did. Now, almost three years later, I still renew. It's WELL worth the cost!
  10. Pales in comparison to what Love's travel centers have. That stuff is awesome! I am not a coffee drinker and I drink their coffee every chance I get. Racetrac has good coffee, too. Quiktrip has good cappuccino. I just can't see paying $5 for a cup of coffee. It's COFFEE. Not gold.
  11. They might very well get updates on things to be aware of.
  12. Check Cobb County crime reports for the south Cobb area that includes Austell sometime. You'll be happy with Hiram. You'll say "crime in Hiram? What crime?" Granted the majority of those crimes are shoplifting, breaking out car windows and theft by taking (which could be anything really). ONE strong arm robbery in that area, one robbery of a business (I think it was a convenience store near Six Flags). That was for the month of December. Almost everything else was non-violent theft.
  13. Just change that 25% to 10% and use the formula I posted in post #7. Might have to drop a penny or two on the withholding because the FICA amount isn't really flexible. I so wish I had that formula back in the 1980s when we had employees and I had to do everything manually. And I mean with a pen and pencil.
  14. There is no standard tax bracket for single vs married. Likely they would not be subject to much withholding tax at $300 a week. I could look on a tax table for you. I recomputed the requested amount. Gross pay: $445.43 SS/MC: $34.08 federal withholding: $111.35. They should be in the 10% withholding bracket, not the 25%.
  15. We used to use a standard deduction amount of 28.65% (that would take into consideration 7.65% Social Security/Medicare tax, 15% federal withholding and 6% state income tax). It would work this way: Gross pay: $ 420.46 federal withholding: $ 63.07 state withholding: $ 25.22 SS/MC: $ 32.17 Net pay: $ 300.00 You can use whatever withholding percentages you want for everything but Social Security/Medicare. That is a fixed 7.65%. Just add the percentages together, subtract fro
  16. I've seen forsythia in bloom for about a week or so. That's early, too.
  17. Glad you're still with us Pubby. And soooooooo excited to see Gotcha Look'n Good is back!!!
  18. I loved him when he was with the Braves. One of my all-time favorites in fact. Won't get up at 4:30 to watch him, though. Sorry Ron.
  19. Thanks for the update. I know my daughter and son in law want me to do their return as soon as he gets his W2. The date I gave was what I read was the anticipated date for returns being accepted. Marathon shoes? Not me. I'm doing two tax returns this year--mine and my daughter's. Would be happy to help out a friend, though. Working toward April 15 being just like any other day of the year. Yeah, I know. It's a pipe dream still. Once I finally get moved, all the days will have the same significance.
  20. It doesn't happen very often but this last year (2012) New Year's EVE was on a Monday. With accrual accounting, the wages for that day would be "charged" to 2012 even if the paycheck was dated January 10. The last paycheck was likely through December 28 so there would be one additional day's wages for 2012. Few people have a Monday payday. It's also a non-issue if the business paying the wages is a cash basis business. I think the IRS will begin accepting tax returns on January 22. At least that is the expected date they will begin accepting e-filed returns.
  21. We learned that, too. Doesn't matter how anxious you are for that refund. WAIT for the W2. You're right about the accrual accounting. I had forgotten about that for 2012. I remember reading about that in my bookkeeping newsletter.
  22. My phone automatically detects my router so I would think your Kindle would do the same.
  23. I don't think AT&T will help you unless you have their router/modem.
