  1. Such as? I see three threads of yours on the front page.
  2. Nothing that remotely sounds as good as what you posted. Man, that sounds delicious. Making my mouth water. Now I know what I usually don't open these threads. They make me HUNGRY!! Not a good thing when you're trying to lose weight. Gosh, Surepip, that sounds awesome.
  3. I hope the next license I get says "Florida".
  4. Based on what everyone I have talked to who either has visited or lived there, things would HAVE to improve.
  5. Will the last person out of Atlanta metro please turn off the lights? Wait, the lights will already be off because the bill won't have been paid.
  6. None of these jobs were in Georgia. Believe it or not, the economy doesn't suck as much in some places as it does right here.
  7. Sorry, former member, but a bank expansion is not a sign of the improving economy, regardless of what the news story says. Increasing the number of workers and increasing their hours is a sign of an improving economy. Minimal number of foreclosures and brisk home sales are signs of an improving economy. Of course, now that you have to PROVE your income in order to qualify for a mortgage, home sales are not going to be terribly brisk. I've actually seen a number of cash sales the last 18 months or so. The article states: We're everywhere (in Horry County) but Myrtle Beach," said Bry
  8. I'm quite sure the economy is improving. My husband has turned down three jobs since the first of the year. Sure wish he COULD work.
  9. The minimum wage for tipped employees is still the same as if one does not receive tips. You can't pay a tipped employee $2.13 an hour and nothing else and get away with it. You still have to pay them the minimum wage, whether they make up the difference in tips or not. Some states, such as Florida, have higher tipped minimum wage as well as non-tipped minimum wage. Some states have no minimum wage and therefore must adhere to the federal minimum wage law.
  10. As I stated, my neighbor paid school taxes into the same system from which she received a paycheck. So did my cousins who were school principals, teachers and coaches. So does my niece who is a teacher. So does another cousin who is a bus driver and a friend who is a bus driver. My sister who works for the Department of Defense pays federal income taxes and gets a paycheck from the federal government. I have a friend who is a firefighter and guess what, he pays taxes, too. I would LOVE to see more private sector jobs. Love it!! Often, it isn't a matter of a job not having ben
  11. You just described my husband every time we owned a business. Employees got paid on time every Friday, very good wages. Hubby got a 6 pack. I got nothing.
  12. My neighbor supported herself and her daughter and has not drawn one penny from the government other than her PAYCHECK from the school system. A school system to which she paid school taxes, BTW. Where did you get the idea that she depended on the government for support? I said she had a JOB, as a parapro in the school system, but needed more income so she took a MINIMUM WAGE job in order to support herself and her daughter. Overtime just wasn't something that was possible in her job but the need for more money WAS there. She did what she had to do in order to pay bills. Her ex bought th
  13. I agree with everything you said except the part about "anyone is working for MW they either are entry level, unskilled or have made some bad life choices". My next door neighbor worked for the school system and had great benefits. She needed more income, being a single mom, so she took a job waiting tables. She actually had experience in that, too. No bad life choices there. My son in law has labor skills. Unfortunately, construction being what it is has left him with UNMARKETABLE skills but he is skilled nonetheless. Some bad life choices but they had nothing to do with the jo
  14. Prayers for you and the rest of the family and a wish for a speedy trip to the ER for him.
  15. Miss you, too, JJ. Things around Pcom just haven't been the same. Say hello to all my loved ones for me.
  16. I prefer vegetable oil. Canola causes me....ah, problems. Peanut is good, though. Safflower is good, too.
  17. As an estranged mother, my heart goes out to you. At least I know where my daughter is. I can't imagine what you're going through. Hugs to you my friend!
  18. Oh Lord!! Someone is actually going to believe this is true.
  19. You must not be looking in the right industry or the right area or for the right job. There are good employers out there. Lots of them. I've been on 21 interviews since July 2010. I'd say out of those, there were maybe 3 really bad employers. All were offering fair compensation and seemed to be good to their employees. I actually spoke to some of the employees and they were all happy with the employer and the job. Yes, they said this WITHOUT the interviewer or the employer standing there listening to them.
  20. Looks like our search for a house may be coming to an end.
  21. Certainly not all of them. I have worked for some of the finest employers and some of the finest human beings you would ever want to meet. I've also interviewed with some fine people. There were a number of jobs I interviewed for that I would have been very happy to work with that company. By the time you've been to the rodeo as many times as I have, you learn to detect the sorry ones. And I think my husband and I treated our employees more than fair. Now, the employees treating us fairly, not so much.
  22. If an employer is not going to pay you when you start, for whatever reason, RUN LIKE THE WIND in the other direction. If an employer asks you illegal questions during the interview, RUN LIKE THE WIND in the other direction. If they start out telling you lies or doing something illegal (an employer is required to pay you for the time you worked), you don't need that job! It will only get worse once they get you in there. And yes, learned that lesson the hard way. Took me one day to see the one where they weren't going to pay me for the first week was not the job I needed, in s
  23. My husband just shook his head and said "and the moon is only a sliver, not even close to full".
