  1. Where in Florida determines your insurance. We have been told north of I-10 it's not bad. We have looked almost exclusively north of I-10. The house we're currently trying to buy is probably 10 miles from I-10. NORTH!
  2. Of course I've heard of Kenwood. I went to Nash and remember well that some of the kids went to Pebblebrook from there. Some went to Campbell, some to Osborne, some to Wills (like me) and others to Pebblebrook. I think we even had one who went to South Cobb! Same time period as me. What's the last name?
  3. We saw three flocks on Sunday before the rain started. That's just after we got home. Saw one on the way home.
  4. Now I remember!!! You took the job where they weren't going to pay you to start with. I don't remember the details but it was something like they weren't going to pay you because of some lame, ILLEGAL reason. Am I thinking of the right person?
  5. That's what I'm saying. If they require that much experience, they should pay more than minimum wage. PERIOD.
  6. I guess maybe they used the five years of experience to weed out the ones who couldn't do the work. Not sure if the job is posted on the DOL website but I KNOW they don't want you at the store. They were doing a job fair. Let me see if I can find the information. It's only a temp job but a job is a job. Ooops. The job fair was TODAY.
  7. A friend of mine passed away Saturday after a 10 year battle with breast cancer. She was 48. To me, that's young. I did!!!
  8. YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY PERSON FACING THIS. If it had not been for government assistance and the assistance of my husband and myself, our daughter and her family of husband and two kids under 4 would be OUT ON THE STREET. Can you understand that? He worked in construction since he was a teenager. He had occasionally worked short term in warehouse jobs but almost exclusively he has worked doing something in construction. He took a minimal wage job, as cook at Waffle House just so they could buy diapers. He took what he could get as far as job went but he never intended that would be all
  9. But, you are not the only one facing this situation. It's a vicious cycle--no job, no money, no way to pay to get education to get job. Been there, done that. I think anyone over the age of 21 has been there. I'm with Mr Dis on this. If the job requires 5 years experience and pays minimum wage, that would not be the job for me. Plenty of minimum wage jobs out there that don't require any experience. And FYI, a lot of companies are laying off people now because they can't or won't provide benefits that the government is now mandating they provide. My son in law is looking for anoth
  10. I've been looking for 3 years. I was SURE I had one job. Absolutely, positively sure. They went with someone else but asked me if I would be willing to help out if the work load got too much for the person they hired. WTF??? Sure, be happy to do that! In the situation you're describing, this is where employers are taking advantage of the current unemployment situation. Would a 50 cent an hour raise in the minimum wage in a few months and then a 50 cent an hour raise in another year and then another 40 cents an hour in two years help you NOW? Not a lot. And the raise in the
  11. A year or two ago I was browsing the help wanted ads. I found one for a social worker, MSW required. It paid $25,000 a year. BTW, the tire guys make more than MW. At least at the tire places they do. And no, the guy with the degree from MIT wouldn't be willing to work for MW. I have SEEN that before and it was someone who had nothing but a high school diploma. She had her standard salary and wouldn't go below it. She stayed unemployed a lot.
  12. Whatever. I haven't made minimum wage in over 30 years. Thank God! I need to get my mind out of the gutter.
  13. We just spent a month in Florida. A convenience store, tied to Kroger, advertised milk for "supermarket price". It was actually CHEAPER at the convenience store than Publix or Winn Dixie there, Kroger here or even Walmart either place.
  14. Seeing all of these that were done on Saturday and already have their direct deposits back make me hopeful that my daughter and son in law have their checks by now.
  15. Blondie, it doesn't matter what attitude you go in with. Your odds are pretty slim. I interviewed at a couple of places where they received well over 400 applications. One of them called in something like 50 for interviews. A 1 in 50 shot at a job? Not good odds. That's common now. I've told interviewers I WAS the person for the job, smiled and was as perky as a nearly 60 year old can be. Time after time I either didn't hear back from them or heard "we went with someone who ....." and the part after "someone who..." was never SAID to be YOUNGER but it always came across that way.
  16. It really seems like the smart thing to do.
  17. Mine was $300 on Tuesday for a 1000 gallon tank. From Holbrook. Actually, to pump it was $200 and the dump fee was $100.
  18. Never fails. When there is something that I like that Florida does, Georgia wants to do it, too. FYI, when and if the income tax is phased out, look for higher property taxes and more fees.
  19. If a job requires 5 years of experience, it should pay more than minimum wage. Has nothing to do with what a worker must or must not accept due to their financial situation. Unemployment is not based on your wages. It is based on the number of weeks you work. If you worked the number of weeks required, you have the time period required covered, regardless of the amount of your wages. BTW, the number of weeks worked is 20. I hear you on the interviews. I've been to 21.
  20. Damn!! Here I thought I had stayed out of town most of the time the legislature was in session. Guess I need to head back out of town so I don't have to hear about the idiots we elected here in Georgia.
  21. Our Pres_ent is just full of bad ideas. That one really is a bad idea, too. Historically, prices have risen in response to raises in the minimum wage. The minimum wage is not meant for someone to exist on f-o-r-e-v-e-r. It is supposed to be incentive to get out there and get something better. Before anyone asks, yes, I have worked for minimum wage. I held two minimum wage jobs at the same time, both part-time and helped take care of my dad who was dying of liver and pancreatic cancer. But that wage was certainly incentive to further my education and get a better paying job.
  22. I would definitely trust a letter. Certainly not an e-mail though.
  23. The first two questions to ask are these: did I put my e-mail address on the tax return and did I check the box to allow the DOR to send me updates. If the answer to EITHER is no, then you can bet your bottom dollar, or your tax refund, that it is a scam. If you did put your e-mail address on the return and you checked the box to allow the DOR to send you updates, then I would go through the DOR website to verify. In years past I have gotten e-mails from the "IRS" to verify information on my return in order to process my refund. As I do not get refunds, I didn't even have to question
  24. It cost us $300. Not sure of the size of the tank.
  25. I see a lot of similarities.
