  1. I loved Dallas! I loved it a lot more when the courthouse moved.
  2. since moving the courthouse? If so, why? If not, why not? I ask because we have a similar situation going on here. We need a new courthouse, apparently. The current one was built in 1932, I believe. It's been updated, remodeled and expanded during the years but we need a more modern one with room for all the court related offices. There is a move to keep the courthouse in the downtown area. My husband and I were discussing it this afternoon and he said it gets a little crowded when they have court. I told him to try to come downtown when they have court and a festival (which
  3. Back in 2009 when we first started seriously looking to move, I took a quiz that was to tell me where I should live. I wanted a lot of things like Powder Springs and Paulding, both of which I was tied to in one way or another. Reading this I realize it really is the same no matter where you go. Imagine how I feel! I share a last name with a county. And yes, my family resided (some still reside) in said county since the 1830s. Come on down here. You will see some old friends, I'm sure. and would the last person to leave metro Atlanta please turn off the lights.
  4. No Food Depot at James and Brownsville unless it's changed from a church in the last couple of years. A mega church from somewhere around southwest Atlanta had remodeled that old Winn Dixie and moved in there probably five years ago. There is a Food Depot at Veterans Memorial and Thornton. Not a lot of choices for grocery stores in that area.
  5. I have wondered the same thing. No incident reports with Cobb Police (and yes, that is city of Powder Springs but they might have asked Cobb to investigate). Nothing on any of the TV stations. Nothing in the Marietta paper. Nothing in the AJC. Considering how the news media loves to cover shootings, I have my doubts about the story being true. Maybe the person is like someone who lives close by me here and likes a car with bullet holes.
  6. I'm with the others. How do you know this has happened? Have you seen something on the tax assessor or tax commissioners website? In the deeds maybe? Aren't deeds submitted through attorneys or title companies? It would seem like a person would have an extremely difficult time doing this by themselves.
  7. And it is totally possible they didn't know Cobb existed. Maybe they did and like me hated dealing with Cobb. I totally understand that one. It was much closer for me to go to Cobb than Paulding (when they were in Dallas) and I still went to Paulding. In fact, if I were there now, I'd go to Paulding for things instead of Cobb. I've been known to drive by a hospital to get to one I liked dealing with better. I really missed Parkway.
  8. Depends on the time of the day or night, too. There are times you could get to Cobb faster than having to go through all those traffic lights around Hiram. I've made it from my house, just down Hiram Lithia Springs Road from that Kroger, to Cobb Hospital in about 6 or 7 minutes. It can take that long to get from the county line to the skating rink. Depending on the time of the day or night though. I finally got to where I didn't go through Hiram to get to Dallas and I avoided 278 entirely. Too dang many traffic lights. I wonder if maybe they had passed by Paulding on their way to K
  9. Brownsville and James Parkway? 8 miles to Cobb, 7 1/2 to Paulding. Probably get in at the ER at Paulding faster though. Just seems odd to me that someone would go into another county, even if it's a half mile closer. They obviously knew Paulding County. I can't find anything about this online. Really would like to know more about it. That's my old stomping grounds.
  10. Well crap. That was right at my house! But why go to Paulding Hospital if you're in Cobb? Was it maybe the old Winn Dixie at Brownsville and 92? I know how the news media gets things mixed up.
  11. I have a neighbor who is in Birmingham right now. Her step son in law is a police officer and was telling them about this couple and the crimes they committed in the Birmingham area. They saw on the news tonight about the end of their crime spree being here in little ol' Milton and she had to call to see where it was. I know it is really mean but I told my husband I hoped they took the girlfriend to the local hospital instead of the better one in Pensacola. They did originally but transferred her to Pensacola later. I guess she needed more care than they could provide here behind us.
  12. In case you missed it, their crime spree which spanned four states, came to end early this morning just a few miles from my house. They led police on a two county chase that lasted about three hours. Apparently it made the national news even. http://www.wsbtv.com/news/ap/top-news/authorities-couple-suspected-in-crime-spree-found-/nqKQT/ http://www.cbsnews.com/news/florida-couple-held-hostage-by-bonnie-and-clyde-describe-terrifying-ordeal/
  13. Not only are you often not comfortable with the decision until afterwards, sometimes you keep second guessing yourself. But second guessing never does any good. If it's time, it's time. I definitely recommend those books by Elizabeth Kubler Ross.
  14. I'm so sorry to hear this Laurie. You and your dad (and naturally Frank and the kids) will be in my thoughts and prayers. A book I read many years ago when I was dealing with death in my family was by Elizabeth Kubler Ross. I'm not sure which book it was exactly, as it has been more than 40 years since I read the book. I believe it was "On Death and Dying" Excellent book. She also wrote another one called "On Grief and Grieving". I recommend that book to people I encounter who have a new diagnosis of a chronic condition, such as hemochromatosis. And that was an excellent sugges
  15. Check to see who is on her plan. No need in asking for ideas until you know that. And if anyone else in the family would like to go to the same doctor, find out if that one is in their plan as well. My husband and I really like to have the same family doctor. It was a challenge to find one who was on his Medicare plan and also on my United Health care plan. We did it though! Seemed like most of them were on one plan and not the other.
  16. I think they just added Hillsborough and maybe Broward today. Can't keep up with the news when I'm at work.
  17. Our county is under a state of emergency because of it. And I believe there are now five counties in Florida under that state of emergency. Ours is the only one in the panhandle though.
  18. You can request a transcript of your earnings for 2014 from the IRS and use that to do your tax return. Naturally, it won't include any itemized deductions you may have but with a little work you can reconstruct those as needed. In fact, I worked on a tax return yesterday where I had a transcript from the IRS to work with. Fortunately that client had gotten their information from their accountant. No, they were not in Georgia.
  19. I tried sending you a message. Said you weren't receiving messages. PM me and I'll tell you what I was going to say.
  20. that one closed years and years ago. There was still one on Veterans Memorial at Mableton Parkway (the one that burned at one point). It was still there two years ago when my daughter moved down here to Florida from Austell. They went to the one in Mableton occasionally. I'm glad our Kmart is safe for now. I hate Walmart and Target is a little longer drive away than I'm comfortable making these days. Besides, Kmart has the cute Christmas bears.
  21. We had snow flurries about 25 miles up the road from here and to our west. I read that we had a few right here in town but if we did I didn't see them. If I had, I'd be making plans to move down toward Apollo Beach Retiree.
  22. My GYN wanted me to go on something for my cholesterol a few years ago. It was 203, I think. I refused to take anything and have since reduced my cholesterol, blood sugar and weight without the benefit of drugs. And I didn't go back to her after that. I went to a new PCP in 2010 because I wanted one closer to my house. He told me I was lying when I said I wasn't taking anything because "everyone your age is on something". I took aspirin and vitamins. I also went back to my other doctor even though he was in Hiram and not Powder Springs. For the record, I'm only on the Xarelt
  23. I'm on Xarelto. It can have serious side effects. So can not taking it and dying from another pulmonary embolism.
