  1. I don't believe that I'd have told that.
  2. Cobb County School District Spending The Cobb County School District spends $8,025 per pupil in current expenditures. The district spends 66% on instruction, 29% on support services, and 5% on other elementary and secondary expenditures. Paulding County School District Spending The Paulding County School District spends $6,748 per pupil in current expenditures. The district spends 67% on instruction, 28% on support services, and 5% on other elementary and secondary expenditures. From: Education.com It is interesting to note however, that not all of the individual sch
  3. I think that bottom line, it is far more important what your student learns than where he learns it. Particularly in the long term. My first job out of college was the only one that asked for transcripts or even a diploma. After that no one really cares if you graduated from Paulding, Cobb, or even Georgia Southern or Georgia Tech or MIT. Performance is what counts and that is a product of the content of your education and experience, not the title on the Diploma.
  4. Learn the difference between the terms "predictor" and "influence" before bashing others, oh superior one.
  5. You are incorrect. The strongest PREDICTOR of the percentage of students gaining success in college is zip code. The INFLUENCE is exerted by the parents and peers, not the post office. An INDIVIDUAL'S chances of success have nothing to do with the zip code, but everything to do with the educational influences in that INDIVIDUAL'S life. There generally is a larger concentration of these positive influences in affluent zip codes. A poor student with involved and proactive parents and good peer influences stands a better chance at success than the rich kid with absentee parents and pothe
  6. One consideration is that Cobb underwent their heavy growth spurt in the 80's. Paulding is still going through theirs. That means a general shortage of everything from books to buildings to experienced teachers and administrators. And just because a school system teaches to a "standard" does not mean that it excels or that it lags, only that it meets the qualification of mediocre. Many do better, and some do worse. I also agree that parental involvement and motivation is paramount. If parents show that they value their child's education, and are involved in that education, and do
  7. Allow me to direct you to this post: This is what happens when you post this kind of thing on a public message board, even if it was not your intention. Let the cops do their job, and certainly take appropriate steps to educate your kids about strangers, but these types of posts end up being far more hysterical than informational. As I recall, an incident earlier this year was a misunderstanding involving a mentally challenged individual, and it was similarly blown out of proportion until the truth was known. I trust the PCSO to issue an appropriate statement if one is warran
  8. Thanks PUBBY. I'm just glad that I don't drive a red Ford Pickup right about now. There are probably dozens of like vehicles registered in this county and hundreds if you include the surrounding counties, let alone hundreds of people that fit the very general description given. To finger one red pickup at a car lot is absurd. Let the police do their job, and in the meantime watch your children instead of red pick up trucks.
  9. The named woman, Stephanie Birkitt was working with and living with the blackmailer after leaving the Letterman Show You be the judge.
  10. Interesting that everyone is making this about Letterman's dalliances, when the crime being prosecuted is that of first degree grand larceny, and the defendant is a news producer for CBS. That's right, a news producer. And nobody seems to think that this affects the integrity of the news organization, only that of an unmarried late night talk show host. "The evidence is compelling," Assistant District Attorney Judy Salwen told the court. It shows that Halderman was trying to "destroy" Letterman's reputation and "humiliate his family," she said. I say that if any of the women feel c
  11. Employment is a trailing indicator. Jobs won't come back until businesses are sure of their future and are able to invest in growth once again.
  12. Another A+ for CBS News, home of the liar Dan Rather and spin meister Katie Couric.
  13. You accidentally overdose by forgetting if you took your prescribed meds and mistakenly taking another dose. You die as the result of an addiction if you repeatedly take higher doses of a drug or drugs that you physically and psychologically crave until you reach that fatal dose. What he did seems more like death by stupidity. Some of those drugs actually counteract each other.
  14. He was held on a 90 day Psyc evaluation, and was released after 42 days. He was never incarcerated or served a sentence for his crime. Polanski thought that he had reached a deal with prosecutors for probation in exchange for his guilty plea, but the Judge never signed on, although it was later discovered that he had once indicated to the defense that he might be amenable to the deal. The judge informed the defense that he was not going along with the plea bargain, and would sentence Polanski to some jail time, as is his prerogative, and Polanski fled the US for France. The judge refused to
  15. "I know it wasn't rape-rape. I think it was something else, but I don't believe it was rape-rape."- Whoopi Goldburg "His victim, Samantha Gailey,[13 years old] told a grand jury that the director had plied her with champagne and drugs and taken nude pictures of her in a hot tub during a fashion shoot. Polanski then had sexual intercourse with her despite her resistance and requests to be taken home, she said. The director originally faced charges including rape and sodomy but they were dismissed following plea bargaining and he admitted unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor." G
  16. It figures that Woody Allen would sign on, but the others standing up for an admitted child rapist is unconscionable. Just because he is an "artist" and a member of the Hollywood elite. The filmmaker pleaded guilty in 1977 to having unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor but fled before he could be sentenced. He settled in France, where he holds citizenship. Investigators in the United States say Polanski, then 43, drugged and raped a 13-year-old girl. The filmmakers objected to his being arrested en route to the film festival, which held a tribute to him this year. "It seems
  17. Well my Rap Star name is Lord Tyme. I kinda like that. Might just change my handle.
  18. All I heard was that Paulding placed dumpsters in front of the "hardest hit neighborhoods". I don't know precisely where they are, or if they intend to expand that program. I also read that the dump will be open all weekend, including Sunday.
  19. If your neighbors had permits to "fill" their property, and even if they didn't, it will be very hard to prove them at fault. There are many factors involved: 1) Did each neighbor have a land disturbance permit, and was the work inspected? 2) Did any of the filling involve redirecting "waters of the state"? 3) Have any of the properties (including yours) flooded before the filling? 4) Is the filling of adjacent properties the only cause of the flooding in your home, or would it have flooded anyway? 5) Did the filling increase the damage to your home, and is that pro
  20. I would say that it's the individual Doctors, not the insurance. Our Primary Care Doctor holds a dozen or so appointments every day for "sick call", that is patients who need to be seen quickly. Regular scheduled appointments for routine things take about 2 weeks, and full physicals take about 2 months. One little trick we have used is to try for an appointment with the Physician's Assistant for routine stuff, since they can be seen within a couple of days, and if anything is wrong they will always run it by the Doc. I've never even had to make an appointment for lab work. I just show
