And now the Ethanol will go up in price as well as the gas

Food for fuel. That's all we should have to say, but this is the government we are talking about. Logic serves no purpose when your goal is reelection. -

Your family is in our thoughts. We're so very sorry to hear of your loss. -
Right now we have PWR, and I will stick with them until they fold up their tent. Good service is worth $15 per month with no contract. If the little guys get put out of business, you can bet on $20-25 per month and annual contracts from the bullies within a few months.

A certain "Waste Industry" is known for this nationwide. They will get rid of their competition by underpricing the service to put the competition out of business and them offering them pennies on the dollar buy outs. Once the competition has been put out of business, WI then raises the price drastically on the strength of their monopoly. I'll haul it to the dump myself before I pay them one dime.

I like this for home defense: It's the Taurus Judge. A concealable .410 revolver. It will shoot .45 Colt or .410 shotgun shells. My other fav is the S&W model 59, a 15 shot double action 9mm luger. If I can't hit the bastard in 15 shots, I'll throw that heavy SOB at him and run.

From Rubini Global Economics: Watch the Macro: “It is clear to us from Friday’s market reaction that the market has still not fully discounted the awful growth picture because if it did, the S&P would be a lot lower than it is trading.”

NASA and NOAA have issued a worldwide warning for possible electrical grid, electronic systems, and satellite interference worldwide due to a series of three large explosions on the surface of the sun. Problems with GPS and Cell Phone communications have already been reported. Locally, the aurora borealis may likely be visible around midnight tonight in the North Georgia Mountains, and perhaps as far south as metro Atlanta in areas away from light pollution. The first blast has passed earth without any major problems, however the second wave passing tonight is stronger, a "2 or 3" on

Oh my God ... someone bioengineered a money tree

It sounds good, however, there is really no such thing as "waste water". If water requirements are substantial, and that water is not somehow returned to the atmosphere or ground, then that poses a potential problem. It really kills the "green" factor. We have heard of lots of miracle cures before, so I remain skeptical, but it is independent research like this that provides most engineering breakthroughs that enhance our lives. I hope that their process proves at the very least to be a good stepping stone to economically feasible energy independence. -
The market is a casino now because it is oversold. PE Ratios are sky high. Commodities are sky high. Government bonds are moving opposite what conventional wisdom would have said 2 years ago, but now there is a new conventional wisdom that says the game is rigged. You try to learn to play the rigged game. There is just too much FED money looking for a place to hide from loss and make a little profit. I am by no means a day trader, but my investments are now substantially in ETF's so I can move into and out of bonds, stocks, commodities, and money quickly as schizophrenic government polic

Frugality has served us well also. As you know we will be retiring early and I have 2 classes of investments. I have investments to tide us over until traditional retirement age, God willing, and then will resume our original retirement plan. I too am planning to work part time when possible. Unfortunately in the current atmosphere, no single place is safe for our nest egg. Even under the mattress stands a better than fair chance of being eaten alive by inflation as soon as any real recovery takes hold. Our investments used to be on autopilot, even after the first crash, but no more.

I am helping a friend prepare a house to go on the market after a death in the family. The sad thing is that it now costs more to insure an empty house than one full of stuff. We also had to install an alarm system and hook it to the AC, park a vehicle in the drive, install motion lights outside, and lights on a timer inside before the real estate sign went up. A "for sale" sign is now an open invitation to loot the place. There will be jobs after we change our government leadership. Our current government is standing in the way of jobs production. What we need is strict, prudent, not p

Small piece of good news: The markets opened up this morning on a somewhat better than expected jobs report. The non-farm payroll rose by 117,000. That's better than the expected 75,000, but less than the 150,000 or so necessary to absorb population growth. Predictions for 2011 annual economic growth now are in the 2% range, significantly below the 3.5% predicted at the first of the year. Welcome to "Recovery Summer II"

The recession ended in June 2009. We've had 3 consecutive years of completely uncontrolled fiscal stimulus, and 3 years of unprecedented FED accommodation. Not only did the ISM Manufacturing Index just hit a two year low but the ISM Service Index just hit a 17 month low. Announced US job cuts in July hit a 16 month high. June Personal Income rose at the slowest rate since last November. Consumer spending fell for the first time since September 2009. The University of Michigan/Thomson Reuters index of consumer sentiment fell to the lowest since March 2009. Retail sales excluding autos, gas

A middle aged man and a trainer were meeting for the first time at the gym and the trainer asked the man what he hoped to achieve; Guy: "I'd like to be able to impress a girl like that" <pointing at a gorgeous shapely blond in her early 20's>. "What machine do you think I should use?" Trainer: "Try the ATM."

I believe I would rather be in the care of a Paramedic than a Dermatologist after a bad accident myself. I would say that the vast majorities of MD's have little knowledge of and far less experience in proper first response life support techniques and procedures than even a relatively green EMT. Of course, it the guy is an ER doc at grady that SOB had better take the whole ride with me. I'm just sayin... -
Turn your unused electrical items OFF in heat wave

You can put most DVR's on a plug-in timer that shuts them off during the overnight hours and/or the daytime when they are not recording. Some models will lose their memory of what they are supposed to record when left unplugged for a long time however, so this won't work with all models. A regular set-top cable box can be unplugged when it isn't being used, but it may take it a couple of hours to completely rebuild the guide. -
A friend of mine has a minivan with a rear washer filled with vinegar and alcohol. It won't damage a car finish, but it smells like a hazardous spill. It isn't exactly pointed entirely at his rear window either. It has much the same effect, in fact offenders often pull into the next available parking lot.

Unplug all of your "wall warts", those little transformers used to charge laptops, electric razors, cell phones, Ipods, etc. They also use juice when plugged into the wall even when the devise is not plugged into them. Actually, you should wash and dry close in the morning when the house is coolest and power usage is at it's lowest. The evening is the highest demand time for both your AC and the power grid. You should also turn your thermostat up to 78 if you can stand it. -
I heard on the news that the woman driving the car with the children in the back turned left in front of a pick-up and was T-boned. The accident didn't appear to be speed related, and the damage looked consistent with a 45 MPH or under crash. What a tragedy.

Until they come up with a comprehensive regional plan and a serious budget and timetable, it's just throwing good money after bad. We need a regional transportation solution designed by experts, not a corporate and social welfare program designed by politicians.

Yup. I'm thinking that they made a claim against her insurance company for injuries received while helping their client, and the company, for whatever reason, refused to pay. I know of another case where a good Samaritan cut themselves severely while extracting a passenger from a wreck, and the insurance company paid their medical bills without much question. -

AWOL Muslim soldier arrested near Ft. Hood with bomb materials

The description can certainly apply to any belief based in faith and not evidence. Lots of folks would agree that strong impassioned political or social positions would fall easily into that category. Parentalism is a social problem where people look to any source outside of themselves and family for care and support. It is an entitlement state of mind where the person believes that they are owed something simply for being. Governmental paternalism feeds this need to buy votes and insure power over and support from their subjects. It is a sick system of co-dependence that needs a third p
