We are the only country where many of our "poor" are fat, live 1 or 2 per bedroom, drive around in reliable automobiles, often spend as much on vices as food, have air conditioning, broadband internet access, a computer and/or I-pod, a cell phone, and a big screen cable TV. We are also the only country where only 20% of the poor stay that way beyond a few years. Most of the poor are young new households just starting out, and will move up the ladder. In many other countries, there is no ladder to move up. That is what is meant by opportunity. That is what it does for you.

The Board of Commissioners have appealed the Rulings

The fact that a SLAPP violation can be appealed is in and of itself a cruel joke. -
What about any of that gives you the right to another man's assets? Your failure is your problem. YOU lost it. If you got screwed then take that up with the other party, not the successful. If you lose that battle move on. Bill Gates didn't do a thing to you. I have failed many times. I have made mistakes, had bad times, and worse luck. I never asked for a dime because I worked for success and planned for failure. You expect life to be somehow work in your favor and others to insure your mistakes even though they had no part in your failure. I expect life to be life, and all that wa

Those who pillage the belongings of others are those who believe as you do that you are owed a piece of everyone else's success even though you have neither taken any piece of the risk nor laid one drop of sweat to the ground in an effort to achieve that success.

I'm incensed. -
Success should be emulated, not decried. It is a twisted mind that looks at the success of another human being and blames them for ones own apparently decrepit choices in life. Robin Hood was not a hero, Robin Hood was a thief.

Would you begrudge me my success if I were? What does the relative success of a motivated and dedicated individual cost you TP? How does another man's hard work and success rob you of your opportunity?

From Investopedia: Those in the top 1% of earners, pay about 40 percent of all taxes. Only 20% of millionaires inherited their riches. The other 80% are what you'd call nouveau riche: first-generation millionaires who earned their cash on their own. Many millionaires simply worked, saved, and lived within their means to generate their wealth -- think accountants and managers: regular people going to work every day. Most millionaires didn't get their riches overnight when a rich relative died -- they worked for the money. Most millionaires worry about retirement, their kids' college

Your experience is probably newer than mine. I worked on the Omni Hotel in Mexico City for about 4 months back in the 80's. That was when I realized what you are talking about. It seemed very important where a person was from as to what jobs they could do. Some were I believe, local specialties, but others appeared to be naked discrimination, particularly against the native people. I know that we hired based upon skill and experience, but many of the local contractors apparently did not. I think that we sometimes suffered a lack of cooperation because we hired without regard to origin. I

It all boils down to a duties test for most positions. If it isn't management or outside sales, then for the most part, but not always, it is not exempt. Also, the FLSA only covers companies with $500,000 in sales and that engage in interstate commerce. All others come under the jurisdiction of the state in which they are incorporated or where the bulk of the work is performed. It is not a simple yes or no question.

...and I said that the numbers indicate that the average household in Mexico earns about half in purchasing power what the average household here in the US does. That may or may not be what you think of as FAR less, but that is STILL not poverty. I didn't say that Mexico is not poorer than we are, just that they are not destitute, which is the popular narrative. It still may be incentive to go across the border, particularly when there are jobs here and the risk is minimal. Also, these are the average Joes. That means that there are indeed many in Mexico, just like there are many here a

They don't actually make 50 cents per hour. The average Mexican family does not live in poverty. In fact, because much of Mexico is largely agricultural, where the population is more self-sufficient, the numbers above are probably skewed more toward poverty than is the reality. My wife's grandparents on both sides earned well below the poverty level in cash for the last 30 years of their life, but they had built their own home, grew their own food, and had their own well. Their expenses were electricity, clothing, an automobile, and healthcare. They didn't starve, and they wanted for nothin

GDP per capita based upon Purchasing Power Parity of Mexico is roughly one quarter that of the United States. What this means, is that on a per person basis the average individual earns roughly 1/4 what an American does.. However, this includes all segments of the population including children, and because the average household size is 2.6 in the USA and 4.0 in Mexico, this brings the average Household income at PPP to about half of that in the USA. The average USA household income is about 3.6 times the minimum wage. Given all of this, it appears safe to say that the average Mexican house

Police Shut Down lemonade Stand Police in Georgia have shut down a lemonade stand run by three girls trying to save up for a trip to a water park, saying they didn't have a business license or the required permits. Midway Police Chief Kelly Morningstar says police also didn't know how the lemonade was made, who made it or what was in it. The girls had been operating for one day when Morningstar and another officer cruised by. The girls needed a business license, peddler's permit and food permit to operate, even on residential property. The permits cost $50 a day or $180 per year

Stars from Franky Avalon to Janis Joplin owe much of their success to Jerry Ragovoy who died this week at the age of 80. He wrote doo wop hits like "My Girl Awaits Me", pop hits like "About This Thing Called Love" for Fabian, and "Cry Baby" for The Enchanters. But perhaps his greatest success was in Motown and Blues where he wrote hits like "Time Is On My Side" for Irma Thomas and later made a huge hit by The Rolling Stones. He wrote four other songs made famous by Janis Joplin, including "Piece of My Heart", "Try a Little Bit Harder", "My Baby", "Get it While You Can", and the fore mention
