  1. Actually the law does not separate the two. It simply says using a fictious ID to gain employment. So the white guy trying to use a fake ID to avoid taxes will be subject to the same penalties as the illegal alien doing the same.
  2. Yes...we should have different laws and punishments for teenagers of any race or ethnic background who simply attempt to represent them self as a different age and those who steal identities to further their illegal lifestyle by victimizing the legal citizens of this country. The law will punish criminals, no matter their ethnic background, and help protect law abiding Americans, no matter their ethnic background.
  3. It sure is. You attempted to portray the law as something that will unfairly punish "kids" doing stupid things with fake ID's. Instead it is well thought out, totally separate, law meant to punish and deter illegals from using fake ID's to further their tax evasions and identity theft scams. Further, the 15 year max is only for repeat offenders with a prior conviction for the offense who apparently did not learn their lesson. That sounds like a great idea.
  4. Strawman argument. We all know that is not in line with societies standards and it would not pass the 8th amendment test. However, 15 years max is a just punishment for the crime as most agree due to the damage being caused to society.
  5. BS....no "kid" is going to get 15 years for a fake ID. This law only pertains to those who use fake ID's to get jobs they cannot legally hold which takes advantage of our tax system along with leaving many identity theft victims in their wake. It is a standard felony punishible by a minimum 1 year, the max is upped to 15 years for repeat offenders. To use some "for the kids" emotional argument hoping people won't actually read the law is BS.
  6. You will notice those are only installed by state DOT on state roadways. It has nothing to do with the county.
  7. Emotional argument interjected into a legal issue. The two do not belong together.
  8. Looks like some people are playing into the defense shenanigans.
  9. There is no common set of codes used in LE. They vary by region, state and even local areas.
  10. Good luck. Most of the beachfront motels are gone and new high rise condos are in their place. PCB has underwent a dramatic transformation in the past decade.
  11. No kidding. We have a great time every year.
  12. I have never heard of a suspect accused of a serious crime, especially murder with no bond, being allowed out of a secure enviroment. Any meetings with counsel would be inside the jail to prevent flight to avoid the penalty.
  13. It is tough if you still owe on the home because your income to debt ratio is too high.
  14. Another thing not mentioned is many of those with take home vehicles respond directly to job sites when working. In many cases there is no savings, the distance from the employees home to the job is a wash when compared to the distance from the office to the job. Also, instead of the employee being at the job site at the start of their day with an assigned vehicle they have to go to the office where you now pay them to drive to the site. Same thing at the end of the day, it can easily take an hour of productive time away. You end up paying $15 or more in salary to avoid a gallon of gas.
  15. I guess we will disagree. The expense per employee is pretty small when factored over the long run. You can't take everything if you want to keep the employees that in many cases the county has invested lots of money to train and certify. No raises for several years, huge increases in medical, and forced unpaid days are morale busters on their own. The county has to keep some of its obligations or it will cost them more in the long run when experience walks away.
  16. Plenty of studies say fleets (not just gov, includes private sector)with assigned vehicles have less expensive repair histories and increased longetivity which offset much of the expense that can be attributed to the communting portion of use. Either way....it is still part of the employees compensation package that the county offered to the employee as compensation for the job they perform. Many people seem to still be ignoring that.
  17. I am glad only the idiots involved were hurt.
  18. I saw a incident Friday that bugged me. I visited a pretty nice restaurant and watched the parents of a 4yo do nothing when their child to stood in the chair to yell at a couple over the divider. The lack of teaching manners to children is really disturbing.
  19. You were the one that brought up holidays. I simply pointed out local government only received holiday time comparable to the private sector instead of all the federal holidays as portrayed. Furthermore, all the holidays that you used to bolster your position on how great government pay is are now unpaid. ....and for simply pointing that out someone flags my post as negative.
  20. Do you mean the ones they already took as furlough days? Also, I got just as many holidays at the large corporation I worked at as local government gets.
  21. That fact will be ignored. Government jobs have always paid lower than the private sector but they tried to close the gap with solid benefits. Funny thing when times were good many people jabbed at government employees over their lower pay. I could not count the times I heard "Haha....I could not live on that" or "I would not do your job unless it paid a lot more". Now that things are not as good in the private sector people want to take away the little they do have.
  22. If you can prove texting then you write it, if not you just fall back to the standard distracted driving law which makes any act which negatively affects driving a violation. The only texting citations I have seen written are ones where the officer was following the vehicle and could watch through the back glass. The scenario is usually driving fine....hold phone against steering wheel for 10 seconds and weaving starts.....drive fine.....hold phone against steering wheel for 10 seconds and weaving starts....cycle repeats..
  23. If you are gonna try to quote the law it would be a good idea to learn it first since this: is absolutely legal.
  24. The county is in bad shape just like everywhere else. The trend is most want the government to be everything and the money is just no longer there.
  25. Common in any criminal trial. When the state rests the defense asks the judge for an acquittal by claiming the state did not prove their case. The judge does have the power to acquit at that point or can deny it and let the jury decide after the defense presents its case.
