  1. If you have a valid position you should be able to argue it without distorting the facts or making some snide political comment since I am one of the least political people on this board. Life expectancy using the latest 2010 date is 78.7 from the CDC. Military retirement is normally funded after 20 years, most join in their teens or early 20's. My career happens to be full of veterans, I know several people retired from the military around 40 who are in their second career. Those who choose to stay longer are just upping their pension amounts.
  2. They only have to pay 0.5% more because their retirement term is much less overall. Military folks are retiring in many cases by 40 and drawing full benefits for the next 40 years, 2 times longer than actual service.
  3. It can't go on forever. At some point it becomes a house of cards. Everyone wants something cut, just not their stuff.
  4. No...we are going broke because we spend more than we take in. You can argue about welfare, pet projects, foreign aid and other smaller programs all day long. Bottom line is DOD, Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid basically utilize every dollar we take in, the rest is on credit. That can only continue so long.
  5. We are broke. Everything is going to take a cut in the near future or we will simply collapse. People live longer these days, I don't know if we can afford to continue to pay someone for 40 years of retirement for 20 years of service. The cost is staggering. The private sector has moved away from pensions for a reason.
  6. To know if the punishment is appropriate we need to know the behavioral history of the student which the school cannot release. He could very well be a troubled child and this was just the icing on the cake. ...and you are correct. The people who are minimizing and misrepresenting what occurred in this thread is mind boggling.
  7. There has never been a decrease in door to door sales, it is still a very common and profitable way to sell items. People now assume it is illegal for some reason.
  8. Neighbors probably issued death threats.
  9. He knew he would get caught, it was a 100% chance he would be repeatedly tested after his first offense.
  10. People just don't understand the liability companies deal with. Something may look dumb to the casual observer however to those who deal with the aftermath when those minor things go wrong they make sense. Lets take fire extinguisher guy, things may go perfect 99 times out of 100 an employee battles a vehicle fire with a fire extinguisher. The one time it goes bad and an employee gets burned could cost the company millions. The casual observer only looks at the 99 times things go right, the company looks at the aftermath of the 1 time it goes bad.
  11. It should not be the governments business anyway. If the people want the commitment promoted by their particular religion and want it to be part of their ceremony then they are still free to do so. If two lesbians want to marry or a guy and his 3 wives want to live as one big family then so be it. No one is destroying the "sanctity of marriage" faster than plain ol' heterosexual couples who now divorce more often than they stay together.
  12. I think many of these are just unproven suicides. Anyone who has been near tracks when the train is near knows the ground has a noticeable vibration. If you miss all those signs you must be really stupid.
  13. LOL...'a hug'. Way to minimize what actually happened.
  14. Jeez....it is impossible to have an adult conversation on this board. People just randomly post topics and links that do not add to the discussion and do nothing but confuse everyone else.
  15. Hmmmm...'real country' critics point to him being the artist who was a crossover instead of 'true country'. His non-traditional style attracted loads of new fans which reinvented the genre which was slowly dying after it went through the horrific 80's. His style closed the door for many artists, even famous ones, who were more traditional. Not saying I'm not a fan, just looking at the irony.
  16. Jeez....seriously? A slap in the face to the community? They were invited to a large parade which is an honor in itself. Good for them.
  17. Some exist simply to complain. They complain non-stop about taxes knowing the main problem is our lack of a business tax base yet they fight all attempts to shift that burden because they detest 'change'.
  18. This brings back memories of a middle school playground.
  19. Jeez....this place is something else. One day LE is hammered because don't treat something minor like the Lindbergh kidnapping and the next they are hammered for doing their job. Bottom line is this guy was a thief, what he did was wrong and any reasonable honest person knows that. The school showed it had no intention of donating the tax payers electricity by the absence of a charging station so he takes it upon himself to pull around back and use his own extension cord. He then goes and plays tennis on the same courts he was previously told not to return to. Responding to a citizen c
  20. Fire them all. Common sense says it is a minimum wage job routinely handled by HS kids that isn't worth $15 an hour. There are plenty of unemployed people out there who will take their place.
  21. ....and that is where you would be wrong. GA has nothing in its law that says you must retreat or not confront a suspected criminal. Matter of fact GA law will offer him civil immunity since his actions were justified under criminal law.
  22. Sometimes driving like an idiot carries a hefty price.
