  1. And things like this are why we don't have satellite/cable anymore. The only station my kids are allowed to watch is PBS!!
  2. Swim diapers are only for catching poop. The pee goes right on through. Besides, pee is as sterile liquid when it comes out and the chlorine takes care of it too. As far as having accidents, every once in awhile it happens with older kids, especially if they get distracted and ignore their bodies. That's why all my kids have to make a trip to the potty before we get in the pool.
  3. And how is a babydoll that you change diapers or feed or put in a swing any different?!?! Heaven forbid that a child has younger siblings and actually does these things to a real baby - they'll want to get pregnant right away. Oh wait, there are plenty of studies that show that when a child helps care for a younger sibling they tend to wait to get pregnant because they see how hard it really is!!
  4. It's a Spanish site translated into English. It got a little lost in translation. It's a cute nickname for your kids in Spain, kinda like chubby baby, or rolypoly or any other thing parent's call their little one with lots of cute dimples
  5. So it's perfectly ok for kids to have a baby doll that drinks a bottle/pees in a diaper/cries/sits in a swing/etc, but it's not ok to have one do the most natural baby caring thing there is? No wonder the US has a horrible breastfeeding rate. Oh right I forgot...breasts are only about sex, they couldn't possible be for feeding a baby /sarcasm All my kids (boys included) pretend to nurse their dolls/stuffed animals/favorite cars. I've been asked to nurse all sorts of things, including Thomas the Tank who fell off the track and got booboos lol! It certainly wouldn't raise any eyebrows amon
  6. It's $5 dollars now! They had to increase prices to cover some of the budget shortfall.
  7. A couple small, one at the top of the charts and we'll see how the youngest grows. As far as the feet, mine all liked sitting indian style in their seats, or they liked to have their legs up in the air, or knees bent. My biggest guy fussed when we turned him around at 18 months because then he couldn't see his siblings. There are a lot of seats that go up to 40lbs rear facing.
  8. Why would this be hard for parents? My kid's seat goes to 30+ lbs rearfacing. It's no harder to put them in this way. The earliest I've ever turned one of mine is 18 months. Its good to see this finally be recommended. Several other countries are way ahead of the US on child seat safety.
  9. We're not really doing anything that we haven't been doing for years. I buy food in bulk, local whenever I can. I barter for all sorts of things. We don't live beyond our means. Virtually no credit card debt. I've cut coupons and done sale shopping for years. Almost everything we buy is 2nd hand (craigslist is your friend!!) We've known for years that we wanted a "large" family and have made decisions so that we can support us on one income. We are debating moving to a smaller and less expensive house. I am starting an internship soon though, to have a fall back if something were to happen wit
  10. Try getting cloth pullups that you can then wash. 26 months is on the early side, especially for boys. I've had 3 potty train so far - the oldest at 2.5, my oldest boy was 4 and my younger boy was completely done including nights before 2. A lot of it depends on the child, it sounds as though your boy just isn't ready. Don't push it and have lots of naked time at home. He'll get it eventually!
  11. My husband built an a antenna and put it in the roof. It works pretty well, considering we are on the wrong side of Kennesaw Mountain to pick up much. I still like saving $65 a month after cancelling satellite!!
  12. Depends on the car lol. When I was driving a Geo Tracker, I almost never locked it. Never kept anything valuable at all, only a handful of cds and a couple quarters. Considering the back unzipped I didn't see the point. Besides, I'd have rather they just open the door and take something then get mad and rip my top - the top was one of the most expensive parts! Now I almost always lock it, but I never have anything valuable in my car, unless you count the 4 car seats in it.
  13. I've got 150lbs or so of beef in my freezer from a nice farmer in N. GA Pork comes from another farmer and I'm working on a local source for chicken. I know all the farmers that I get stuff from and can see their farms whenever I want. Same with most of my veggies/fruits and eggs now.
  14. We went to this last week and had a great time! Didn't get a ton of berries (about 3/4 lb), but then again I had a 6 month old strapped to me and 3 other kids to keep an eye on lol. There were tons of berries though!! If you know someone tall that can go with you, you'll get more berries - most of the clientele is SAHM's and kids during the day and there are lots of berries up high that I couldn't reach lol.
  15. I like the books much, much better! I've watched most of the 1st season, but just couldn't get into it too much. Doesn't help that I can't watch it unless all my kids are in bed/away from home - that doesn't happen very much! I really don't like the way that they portrayed Sookie either - her accent is awful! And Eric isn't nearly hot enough lol.
  16. Please contact Nicholas Cole Photographer. He has a lot of experience is photographing special needs children!
  17. Just out of curiosity, why can't he just sleep in your bed at night? Eventually he won't want to anymore. I've got 4 kids between 7 years and 6 months. I can count on my hands the number of nights in the past almost 8 years that I've slept without a child in my bed or on the mattress next to my bed. This morning I woke up with all 4 and the cat in bed with me because my husband had to work all night.
  18. I'd say have a talk and see what is going on with him. It might take a bit to get him to open up. You said that your daughter has been gone for awhile. IS she due back soon? Is he feeling like he is going to "lose" his mommy time with her back? Is he scared of something in his room? Nightmares around this age can be very scary. We have "monster-be-gone juice" that I make up periodically, a small spray bottle that we use magic to charge up Compromises can help everyone out! Could he maybe sleep with the door open so he can hear you around the house? Could you lay down for a few minutes wi
  19. Husband and I both score 14/14 I'm better at starting a fire then he is though As far as cars and house repairs, between the 2 of us we could plan and construct both a car and a house from start to finish!
  20. That is awesome for you guys!!! I wish you all the best for the move and enjoying England. Where are you guys looking to move?
  21. We love the Kennesaw fireworks. We've found a great place to sit and we are home within 15 minutes When the kids are older we'll get closer again. My poor 2 year old sat in the car with daddy because it was too loud for him, and we were 1/2 mile away.
  22. A lot of stores also have pasteurized eggs available as well. I've seen vanilla beans at Publix and Kroger both. If not I know Whole Foods in Marietta carries them.
  23. Multiple banks are the way to go. I have accounts in 3 different banks, one that is strictly online, i.e. no b&m branch at all, one credit union and one "big name" bank. I figure the chances of all 3 going under are pretty slim. If it does happen then I'm sure I'll have more important things to worry about then money in a bank.
  24. We've bartered for years. We've saved lots of money doing things that way
