  1. This is not a fantasy. The ridiculous turnout to the last local election proves this. Plus, get out of your circle, and ask Joe Paulding Citizen. You throw out a statement like this saying it's not based on facts. A whopping 14.4% of the county turned out for this election. That means that 85% of the county did not give a rat's @ss about your revenge vendetta on this airport. http://www.ajc.com/news/business/anti-airport-commercialization-candidates-win-race/nf458/. Actually, my number now seems a little low. Most either don't know or don't care about this. I'm not saying this i
  2. Mojo, I enjoy reading your intelligent posts and find myself in agreement with you frequently. Here, we part ways respectfully. We keep going back to "well this happened years ago". In politics, your revenge is to fire the politician, which you guys did. That didn't satisfy you guys, the pound of flesh wasn't enough. The revenge on a cheating husband is to divorce him. There are, however, many women where the divorce didn't satisfy them, so they follow their ex around making sure that the next woman knows, so she can keep getting her revenge. It's not the way our system was set up, and
  3. I didn't say that I didn't think this was a great idea, just that it's not practical .
  4. Again, that's your sides obsession with revenge that is just not practical, nor the way our country works. If that were the case, Obama would be on the hook for Obamacare, GWB would be paying for the Iraq war and Medicare Part B, and Clinton would be paying for Monica's therapy. It's not the real world, not sure how you guys got stuck in this revenge laden obsession that former politicians are on the hook personally for their failed agendas. If that were the case, then we would need to pay the ones that started successful programs.
  5. Of course radiohead, both sides are convinced that most of the county agrees with them. Most of the folks in NE Paulding don't even know there is an airport, could care less about it and think of themselves as being in Acworth more than they do Yorkville. Never mind that they pay a lion's share of the taxes and will need to take the $400,000 bath along with everyone else. You think there are more of you because you've surrounded yourself by like minded people (like we all do, that's not a pot shot). I talk to dozens of people in this county every day that is very much a true random sample
  6. Here is what I've learned about this 7th grade food fight over the past 2 years. Very few folks have heard of the 10-80-10 rule (different folks tweak these numbers a bit, but the spirit of the theory is the same). What that means is that with most endeavors, whether it's a business, church, non profit or politician, the following will usually occur. 10% of your customers, voters, stakeholders, insert synonym here _______ will love what you're doing, and it is almost impossible to make them hate you. Business classes will instruct you that you should not spend a ton of time and ener
  7. I know this is a lightning rod subject, but we will never have a destination restaurant like Henry's unless they can have a full service bar. We have some great breakfast and lunch restaurants. Charlie's Corner Café is great, TNT is the best restaurant that has ever been in the old bus station. He'll start opening for breakfast next week. I agree, and would love to have a higher end restaurant. These types of restaurants, however ,derive about 40% of their revenues from bar sales. As for parking, the huge lot beside Regions and the big lot over across from Sal's is plenty big enou
  8. This reminds me of Katrina. I knew, as did everyone else that actually lived in the area, that many of those folks stayed behind to loot and cause havoc, not because there weren't enough government busses offering free rides out of town. Everyone knew it was coming, but the media made it seem like these poor helpless people were just frustrated and took to looting. Last night, everyone and their moms knew what was going to go down. Is it racist to know exactly what was going to happen before it happened? There were no surprises here. Any advances that have been made in race relations w
  9. Bechtel Electric has been the local company that I always use. 678-255-5966
  10. Those are some good options. Her opinion is, and I can't say that I disagree, that we shouldn't downgrade from Cracker Barrel just to save the drive. Any place in Acworth anyone knows of that's opened? My sister is a server and signs up to work on Thanksgiving. It's, by far, her biggest tip day of the year. She says she can buy almost all her Christmas gifts just from one shift on Thanksgiving.
  11. Any other place? The wife shot down Rodney's.
  12. Does anyone know of a local restaurant open for Thanksgiving? No fast food, just looking for somewhere closer than Cracker Barrel.
  13. I don't know the history behind April 15th being "tax day", but my cynical distrust of politicians makes me suspect that they looked for the day that is farthest from election day (except for the 47% of folks that think April 15th is Christmas). This was the first year that I filed an extension and had to pay by October 15th. With early voting, I was able to pay my taxes, then go vote. I HIGHLY recommend this strategy, as it changes the way you vote. The most endangered politician becomes the one with an (I) by his or her name.
  14. The old bus station now houses TNT Southern BBQ, which I highly recommend. Good, affordable, great owners.
  15. OK, I think I'm going to bow out of this string, as logic bowed out a long time ago. Sticking to the original point, I simply asked what was illegal or unethical about selling something to someone that owed back taxes (setting politics aside)? I do it every day, as I'm sure most of my clients owe either taxes or something to someone. Heck, I just paid my taxes last week, so everyone that sold me something before last week "got away with it". The logic here seems to be that we all only do cash transactions, and run complete credit scores and tax backgrounds on everyone for every tra
  16. OK, I'm no apologist for anyone here, but I really don't see how anything illegal or even unethical happened here. If I sell my house or my car to someone, and they owe back taxes, how is that my problem? Am I supposed to refuse the sale even if they disclose it to me? To me, this seems much to do about nothing, but I've been wrong before.
  17. Why would Douglas County deputies care about Paulding drunks or warrants?
  18. Anyone know what's going on? There were a couple people in custody on the side of the road.
  19. OK, watch out, I'm going to post an opinion on an opinion board. Let's see who gets mad about it first. Do you guys really not remember how the teachers on here howled and howled and howled as if someone was running over their favorite puppy 3 years ago when their precious winter break was cancelled? I'm sure the good folks (yes, I think they are good folks who, like us, make bad decisions from time to time)at the BOE remember it well. I'm sure they also know that their winter break will be in jeopardy should they miss more snow days. With the predictions showing that the weather would
  20. I was wondering the same thing. When I lived in Louisana, and they declared an evacuation, inbound interstates were closed and all traffic was allowed to use all lanes going outbound. I don't know why we can't do that here. There may be a good reason for it (not enough cops to close the on-ramps, not enough road blocks, just don't know).
  21. Can someone please remind me as to where I should go to post a job opening? I have not been on here in a while.
  22. Here is a quick tip if you want your otterbox now vs. waiting on getting it in the mail. Best Buy will price match Amazon. Go to Best Buy, find the otterbox you want, scan the code and see the price in Amazon (did this yesterday, a $60 defender series from Best Buy was $27 on Amazon). Take your Otterbox to the register, show them the price on Amazon on your phone, and they will match it.
  23. The wifey and I did a 5 day trip to Seattle a couple years ago and had a blast! It was soooo different. We loved the public market, the views, the seafood, the view from the Space Needle, and did a day trip to Victoria, CN. It was awesome!
