  1. Again I commend you for well articulated points backed by facts. Thank you. We actually agree on more than you'd believe. I agree that I don't want 278 to look like Camp Creek Parkway. Other 2nd hub airports have been able to pull this off. I think of the facility in Panama City as an example. Smart growth and good leadership can make this happen. I don't think we have this now. My biggest concern about leadership is that, with the toxic environment now in place, good folks / leaders are simply not going to want any part of this county. Right now, it looks like whoever raises their
  2. You know Whitey, I've been trying to do my due diligence on the candidates, as I'm open to consider all of them. In fairness, I have not heard Mr. Dobson (not because of his not making himself available, I just can't seem to make it to one of his events from my end). I'll agree with you that he seems to be well respected and liked from almost everyone I ask. My concern is exactly what you are saying, that he is going to be in arm in arm with the Chicken World 4. Again, in fairness, I'll ask him about this when I get a chance to meet him, as his reputation doesn't seem to be one where he'll
  3. I'll give you that that is an impressive resume. I don't really care one way or the other about the airport, I do care about whether or not they are anti-growth. Usually a small business owner would have a hard time being anti-growth. What would disqualify him, in my opinion, is if he is in bed with the Chicken World posse. The other guys do not seem to think for themselves, they just seem to look for the applause lines from those that got them elected. Being associated with the Chicken World geniuses is a negative in my books, just as I'm sure that they would say that being a 5th cousin
  4. While I never agree with all politicians all the time, I'll take a small business owner / job creator any day vs anyone (not just his opponent to be fair) who has never created a job, worried about making payroll and who only seems to have one issue in which they are passionate. Being against everything only gets you so far. Eventually you need a plan and tell us what you are FOR that will create jobs (sorry, as cute as it is, reading to dogs doesn't create jobs) to get votes outside of Chicken World.
  5. You know, I actually understand the C.A.V.E.'s people's point (I said understand, not agree) about the "secret" deal. To me, it just points to the fact that these folks really are not from the business world, which is ok. I would call it malpractice on the part of our BOC if they tipped off one of the biggest companies in the world that that were about to go into direct competition with them a second before they absolutely needed to. Do you think Ford calls up Chevy months in advance to make sure it won't hurt their feelings if they come out with a new vehicle? I understand the point abo
  6. How to win elected office in Pauliding. 1. Show up at Chicken World and reminisce with the C.A.V.E. people about when Paulding had only 1 red light. Remind everyone as to exactly which roads are named after your great grandparents. 2. Pivot to complaining about how crowded the roads have become. Blame new residents that were lured to the county as it being a fine place to live work and play. Somewhere in your lamentations, blame anyone with the last names of Austin or Shearin. 3. Wrap up by promising that, if you were in charge, you'll turn the growth around and bring us bac
  7. Your point is well made and received. I certainly don't want to discredit my points by being condescending. Thank you for calling me out on that. I actually enjoy reading Whitey's post and agree with him / her more often than not. The poke about fast food was simply sarcasm meant to point out that those are what most of our new jobs are. I do want to simply refute one of your points though, respectfully. I did not move to a rural county. Paulding has not been rural for a long time. 150,000 residents are, by definition, suburban. In 1990, about 40,000 folks lived here. It was rural
  8. Ah, the Chicken World stock answer of "why don't you just go back to where you came from". Well, we're here and we outnumber old Paulding 4:1. We're going to keep tormenting you guys with inconceivable things like growth, opportunity, higher expectations and progress. The days of the Paulding County dream being $8 an hour and your own trailer home are numbered. Maybe, just maybe, our children will be able to "gasp" work in the same county for a great wage where they went to school and church for over a decade. I know that thought makes yalls blood boil, but it's coming.
  9. You busted me. Damn, you guys are such geniuses. Please make sure to put some napkins in my bag with my #3, you guys have been slacking on that.
  10. Oh wow, you are literally making my point for me. Because the chairman is for it, the other 4 are against it. That's all there is to it. It's embarrassingly childish to withhold this opportunity for good paying jobs from our citizens just so you don't get caught voting with the chairman. That would prevent them from getting their sought after applause (you can hear that as well) from the Chicken World geniuses.
  11. Just frustrated that we live in a county full of very smart people. The problem is that they give their minds and talents to other counties every day. The brain drain crates a vacuum that is filled by low information folks who just want to hang on to what has been gone for years. Savvy politicians know that it's super easy to lead these folks and exploit them to get elected. The folks that need to be making decisions and be involved in our county don't really associate themselves with Paulding. I suspect it's because they don't want to be associated with the circus side show that has bec
  12. We definitely don't want our tax dollars going towards government services that lead to higher paying jobs. That would not be the PAULDING way.
  13. Don't you worry, there won't be any dirty nasty businesses at the airport or ugly 18 wheelers on the road, but I hear we may get a new Burger King in Dallas. Those are A-Ok with the Chicken World band of geniuses.
  14. I have to ask: who are the Chicken World 4? so many names for the same people confuse me... Pownall, Davis, Crowe and Collette. Chicken World has become the defacto headquarters of everyone who hates the idea of growth.
  15. Exactly, thank the Chicken World 4. A young man (or woman) who does not really want to go to college, but likes he idea of making $55000 in the next year, will need to go 3 counties over to achieve this. We both know that a barrier like that would probably keep many of these folks from pursuing this. But hey, we're building a new chicken fast food restaurant, so they can go work there.
  16. I have accepted that trying to tell folks that have never created a job, never read a P&L and have never been responsible for other people's careers do not understand that economic development involves investment at the local level. It's why counties with business savvy citizens tend to win, and counties whose citizens are stuck reminiscing about when their county only had one red light are the same ones that receive the 3rd highest amount of welfare "equalization" money from the state for their schools. When your county is mentioned in he same breath as Clayton and Dekalb, that's bad. B
  17. It opens next month, right behind the new courthouse. We had the opportunity to offer CDL licensing at this facility, but the Chicken World 4 voted 4-1 yesterday to kill it.
  18. Yesterday, the Chicken World 4 voted to kill the CDL licensing facility in Paulding. I'll start another thread on that, but these guys are no longer "anti airport", they are anti-business, anti-growth. No matter who you guys get elected, the growth is still coming. You cannot stop it. There is nothing you can do that will cause the county to line up bulldozers and tear down Seven Hills, Bentwater, etc, and plant trees to get your "huntin" ground back. The question is, what are you going to do with the growth that is coming? Where are they going to work? Pollo Tropical, another Wal
  19. Are you kidding me? Our "Republican" BOC just killed another job creator in Paulding while we were sleeping. They argument was that it won't create any new jobs at the DDS office. No kidding! That wasn't the point. The points was that, on average, a first year long haul trucker can make over $50,000 per year. That's a helluva good job in Paulding. While sure, they can drive to Atlanta or wherever the next closest facility is, why would we not want to make it as easy as possible for people in our county to have access to these higher paying jobs? We've heard for years what the Chicke
  20. All these billboards, from both sides, serve as a gigantic "Closed for Business" sign for Paulding.
  21. And the income tax was only meant to pay for the war, I'm sure 278 was meant to be a 2 lane, North Paulding was supposed to be rolling woodlands. Things change.
  22. Well that's a good thing, but keep in mind that if 200 people were there, that's less than 1% of the folks that live in those neighborhoods. Everyone was so excited that 300 people showed up at the town hall at the airport on Dec 1st. I thought that was quite pathetic, especially when both sides started saying a large chunk of the cars had out of state / county tags. 300 / 140,000 = .002%. Again, not a large percentage of this county cares about this, we just want it to be over.
  23. I don't know roadcrosses. I'm not defending apathy and disinterest, just pointing out that it exists in much larger numbers than either side concedes. In my line of work, I deal with the general public of this county. Most are not on this board, not attending meetings, don't read the local paper, and are not engaged. By most, I literally mean 80%. The last local election supports my theory with hard numbers. That seems so unreal to both sides, as we all as humans tend to surround ourselves with folks that are like us, therefore assuming "there are more of us than them". Plus, bot
